Hotels.... Safety...

Is there a hotel or hotel chain that "gets" it yet? I can find the occasional restaurant where I feel safe, valued, and understood. BUT... are there any hotels that are making the leap?

More and more all the time. My #1 vote goes to Four Seasons Scottsdale (the exec chef there, Chef Mel, daughter has food allergies so he has labeled all menus and staff are very well trained). Was at Kimpton Hotel Solamar last week in San Diego and menu was clearly marked. Kauai Marriott is starting to make changes and found gluten-free snack items in Grand Hyatt San Antonio this week. It's also getting easier to find gluten-free snack items in airports. BTW, my worse vote goes to Ritz Pentegon City, DC. For a nice property, they still don't get it but there are local eateries nearby that have gluten-free menus

I have heard that some of the Hiltons do a good job with gluten-free food. There are even a few Bed & Breakfasts around that do gluten-free.

I find its really up to the Chef no matter what the chain is. The more expensive the chain like Four Seasons, Fairmont, Taj, the more aware they are. Here in HAwaii the Fairmont as a "allergy" menu with gluten-free foods, Vegan, raw and a few other highly specialized items. The Four Seasons here will do anything needed. Hiltons usually have a pantry of gluten-free foods but that doesnt mean all the chefs know what to do with them. Its best to call the executive chef of the hotel where you want to go and feel them out.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
