Kid Allways Hungry

My son complains that the gluten-free foods are not filling and is always hungry. What can I give him so he feels full, is he missing something in his diet that he needs. He is a very picky eater as-well. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I felt very much the same when we started gluten free!!It just feels like something is missing and nothing really "hits the stop". I don't know how long your son has been Gluten-Free, but the feeling will wear off in about a month or 2 when his body realizes it's living off something else. My son ate so much food when we first went Gluten-Free as well but he's cut back alittle since being on the diet 1 month. We felt that Rice Pasta was not as "filling" as corn pasta. So corn pasta, icecream, and meats were the most satisfying. My son always likes to carry around a baggy of Butter Corn Puffs that he'll munch on inbetween meals and big snacks, this also seems to help not feeling "unsatisfied" all the time. Good Luck! This is just what worked for us!

protein at every meal is good, our dietician told us it helps regulate blood sugar, and helps you feel full, try giving meat at breakfast as well, or nuts, if my daughter has waffles and peanut butter she stays full for few hours

My daughter was always hungry when she was younger. I think that is just the nature of some kids. Popcorn and beans can be very filling if his stomach can handle them. So can potatoes.

With every snack, have him drink about 4 oz. of something, even if it's just water. At that age, they can't always 100% tell whether it's food or drink their body wants. The body will continue to give the request for food/drink until that request is fulfilled. I find that making my kids drink something along with every snack has helped them not want to raid the fridge every twenty minutes.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
