Dec 9th it is!! i can do 6 or 6:30, so ill leave it to the working people to decide which works better for u-- Cant wait!!!!

And Lauren, so glad you are gonna make it down on Jan 6-- if ur free Dec 9th u should come then too!

YAY!!!!! I'm also gonna come straight from work. I figure we'll firm up an exact time closer to the date.

I attached a link with their direction page. I take the 1 / 9 to Christopher St. and then it's just a block or two. But I'm not sure what Subways are near you guys. I work in the middle of Times Square so having all the subways across the street is basically the only good thing about working in Times Square (lol)!!

Hey guys - thanks for keeping me in the loop!

I'll have to wait and see about Dec 9 but I don't think I'll be able to make it - I work for a publication too and that's my department's busiest time of the month. I'm taking off a couple of days the week before when my friend from North Carolina comes into town, so I'm anticipating spending the next week/weekend in the office <_<

I'll be there in spirit and I'll let you know if anything changes though! Have a great time! And of course I'll keep Jan 6 on my calendar - can't wait! :D

Hi guys! Okay, let so December 9th at say 6-6:15? Will that work for you guys? I get out of work at 5:30 but on Fridays, I like to leave a little early, plus I'm already downtown so I'm not far. So I can make 6, but if anyone wants to change it for 6:30 that's fine with me too.

I'm excited!! :D

6:00 should work for me. I don't really have a set time that I get out but on a Friday I usually leave around 5:30. I work in Times Square so I just hop on the subway across the street : )

Hi! I'm on the East Coast, but I'm up by Boston MA (North Shore). I'm 34 years old, a computer virus analyst (geek! :D ) and the only other interesting tidbit is that I'm getting married in October.

I don't know many celiacs around here, though I work with one, but I don't get to talk with him much as he travels extensively. I hope you don't mind me posting in here. :)

Hi.....I am in Billerica MA.....43 yr old guy just diagnosed a few months ago. Been gluten-free since labor day. I am in sales (for Verizon). Are you on gluten-free diet? If so, for how long?

Hello,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I am new here. Recently diagnosed with Celiac also extremely lactose intolerant. I'm 26 and live in Maryland. (Baltimore County) I've been on this board quite a few times since I've been diagnosed with Celiac. (October 26, 2005) I'd do google searches "is Starbucks gluten free"...etc, and this forum always came up with the answers, so I decided to join today. My family is very supportive but it would also be nice to talk with people who know what it's like.

Hi Mandy - Welcome to the board!

I live in Carroll County, but I grew up in Baltimore County in the Randallstown area. Send me a pm and let me know where in Baltimore you live. I am trying to get Carroll Hospital Center to start a support group, because there isn't anything around here. The Baltimore chapter is just too far for me to go.

You're right, it seems that this forum always seems to come up with the answers to what we need to know. It's great to get input from people who live through this, and be able to support each other.

Hey everybody,

Did anyone downlaod the Safe Food List on this site? It's great! Alot of stuff I didn't know I could actually eat. I highly recommend it. I know it's pricy but let me tell you, it is worth every penny!

Guest BERNESES

Also check out the Delphi Gluten Free List (it's a Delphi forum). If you can't get it, let me know and I'll email it to you (70 pages!). Great list too! B

Thanks...looks like a great list. I'm pretty sure I got it. I will attempt to download it when I get home.

I'm new to this website. I was just diagnosed with Celiac disease 3 months ago with blood test and biopsy. I am married, 50 years old and live in Harpers Fery, WV.

I have looked to see if there are any support groups on the EAST Coast but haven't found any in my area.

I am in Hershey, and I can tell you offhand I know two people with Celiac, one has DH and she used to work with me, she found out right after I did. The other woman I was introduced to in May, she had just recently found out she had celiac but she suffered almost 10 years without a diagnosis. She and I are attending a gluten-free cooking class at the Giant food store tomorrow night. The chef's are making pizza and pies. The store is offering it free and it will be a good chance to meet some more local celiacs. I too would love to get to know more people who can understand exactly what I am going through. A normal person just doesn't always understand why I cannot eat regular cookies...ever. :)

My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
    • trents
Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.

I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.

Are Bobresmill gluten free oats ok for sensitive celiacs?

thank you both for the insights. i agree, im going to back off on dairy and try sucraid. thanks for the tip about protein powder, i will look for whey protein powder/drinks!   i don’t understand why my doctor refused to order it either. so i’ve decided i’m not going to her again, and i’m going to get a second opinion with a GI recommended to me by someone with celiac. unfortunately my first appointment isn’t until February 17th. do you think i should go gluten free now or wait until after i meet with the new doctor? i’m torn about what i should do, i dont know if she is going to want to repeat the endoscopy, and i know ill have to be eating gluten to have a positive biopsy. i could always do the gluten challenge on the other hand if she does want to repeat the biopsy.    thanks again, i appreciate the support here. i’ve learned a lot from these boards. i dont know anyone in real life with celiac.
