Hi again everyone. It's been two weeks since I started the elimination diet!

I'm sadly still recovering from the rabbit pellet glutination so I'm not free of symptoms.

I think that I also had candida, since adding fruit to the diet caused an itch. I had to remove fruits again and the itch is subsiding. I have no idea how long it takes to get rid of the candida.

Anyway, it's time to add a new food, and after two weeks of fantasizing I have no idea what to add, specifically because of the candida (which means no sugar, carbs or dairy). I read somewhere that wholegrain rice should be ok for candida so I added that.

Here is what I've been eating for the past two weeks (except for the rice):

Red and white meat

Brown Rice (added one week ago)

Green-leaf vegetables

cucumber

sweet pepper (maybe not ok)

Onion

tomato

aubergine

zucchini

garlic

Avocado

Unfiltered apple cider vinegar

olive oil

herbs and spices

Foods I know I react to

eggs

dairy

fruit

nuts and beans

carrots

Experienced Celiacs, what food should be next?? I'm thinking maybe coconut? Is that safe for candida problems?

It is best if you can to wait until the glutening symptoms resolve before you add a new food. If you think you had problems with the peppers then drop them for now and wait till you are feeling better before you add them back in. I think a doctor can tell you if you have a candida issue. Some of us get rashes and itchy from gluten so it may be that causing the itch.

That was good advice. If you like sweet potatoes, they've been a mainstay for me. They're a good source of vitamins and fiber too. Good luck, let us know what happens with the test results.

Dani - how long have you been gluten free? I've been gluten free for 6 months now, and for the first couple of months I reacted very obviously (hives and itching) to foods which I am now able to eat ok. If you are still new to the diet, some of your symptoms may just be part of your recovery, which makes it difficult to decide if you have a real problem with a particular food or not.

My rule of thumb is to leave a food for a while if I think I have a reaction and try it again another time when I am feeling well. My list of good and bad foods is similar to yours. I am also having problems with nuts, including, unfortunately, coconut. I am ok with eggs though.

I hope you feel better soon. Those dammed pesky pet food pellets!

Thanks for all the advice. I appreciate all your help guys. I put off adding anything, but I'm feeling pretty devastated and hopeless at the moment.. I didn't get my period. I got my first period last month on the 23rd, but nothing this month :-( Maybe this is all in my head and I just truly have a hormone imbalance.

Feels like there's no light at the end of my tunnel

Sorry to hear that Dani. Maybe those wheaty pellets really gave you major dose? I've read a few more posts recently where people say it takes a few months for their periods to come back properly. Maybe you just need a bit more time. I hope you feel better soon.

Oops, sorry, you stated no carbs. Sorry about my not so good advice. One thing that helps me mentally when I'm challenged with my diet is to take a deep breath and think about how much better I'm doing now then how I was doing then. We didn't sign up for the club, and learning the ropes isn't easy, especially since they're different for everyone. Wishing you the best, Gail.

Thanks Gail, I'm starting to feel a little better and somewhat more alert. It's just hard to stay positive when a person eats the same things every day and still feels worse than everyone else haha :-) But I'm glad I have this place to turn to for good and bad things.

I actually got my period today, so that's a lesson about being patient for me. I really feel like a drama queen and I'm a little embarrassed :-)

I'm not worried about you eating the clementine, and figure (and hope) you aren't experiencing repercussions.

I actually do believe sweet potato is a valid food to add to your diet. I went for a very long time undiagnosed and was really sick.

My neighbor told me about seeing my DP at the grocery store trying to pick out a little sweet potato for me, looking very worried.

She said she asked him what he was doing and he told her he was looking for a little sweet potato, because I didn't like the big ones. My neighbor told me she wished her husband loved her enough to go dig through sweet potatos at the grocery store to find the little ones.

Little sweet potatos are test worthy IMHO. :rolleyes:

Sweet potatoes are very good for you if you tolerate them. They are one of my mainstays :) I alternate sweet potato,, rice/brown rice, pasta as my starches.

Why would sweet potatoes not be an ok carb? They are one of the healthiest things you can eat. Full of vitamins and both soluable and insoluable fiber.

I'm watching the carbs, but need some or I keep losing weight. Sweet potatoes are my main carb, and I have zero reactions to them. I might have rice once or twice a week, and that seems to be ok too. I have been trying potato, but am not sure about them just yet. I keep making the mistake of expanding my diet too quickly because my appetite comes roaring back when I feel better, and I get the munchies really badly. I paid for my ill discipline last week with a migraine and severe nausea over the weekend, and I have no idea what the culprit was. Ho hum, back to basics again!

I'm not sure about root veggies (since I reacted to carrots and beetroots) yet but I think I'll give the little sweet potatoes a go in a few days, and I'll alternate between them and brown rice like mushroom suggested. I have no idea how to cook them though!

You're my absolute opposite by the way. My body loves to gain weight, which is why I watched my carb intake before starting this elimination diet.

I don't think you have ill discipline.. it's called being human. If we crave something for long enough we get opposite reactions. Sorry you have to back to basics :-(

You can bake them like a regular potato. You can out them in chunks in a soup. I like to scrub them, boil them about 5 minutes (depends on how big they are). You don't want them mushy just partially cooked. Slice up thin, toss with olive oil & a sprinkle of salt. Spread out on a baking sheet. Roast them in the oven. When done, I like a bit of cinnamon on them some like sugar, too.

My microwave has a "Jacket Potato" setting and I just push that button, it asks me to turn the potato over halfway through, and then when done wrap it in foil and let it steam for about 10 minutes. It is so easy. Or you can bake in the oven. Or you can cut in wedges and slices and spray with oil and oven bake. Or cut them in cubes and steam/boil them. Mash later if you want.

You could put them in any kind of soup. There are recipes for soups with sweet potato all over the Internet.

      So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

      hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen.       Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
