Insomnia & Severe Night Sweats - Please Help!

Last night I had the worst case of insomnia and night sweats ever. I've gone through other posts about this and people say that they have this when they've either been glutened or they are older women going through menopause. I can't imagine that there's any gluten left in my diet. The only remote possibility is my baby corn casserole - which is made with rice flour and corn. None of my other foods are packaged or processed items. I took 3 Tylenol yesterday. Does that have gluten?? :o What about Advil?

All my Celiac symptoms are worse during my period. I am more naucious, have less energy, all my symptoms are multiplied about 5x. Does this happen to anyone else? I have severe menstrual cramps and intestinal pain. I get extremely hot and start sweating. If it's cold at night, then I feel alternating hot flashes with cold chills. I also feel like something is crawling around under my skin, and I am not tired enough to fall asleep. I thought hot flashes were associated with menopause, but I am 24 and I get them (or something like hot flashes) during my period. I fell asleep at 8 am this morning and I had to miss school because I feel like crud!!!!!!! I AM SO ANGRY at my body!!!!!!!

Is my insomnia and sweating from gluten, hormones, or what? Any ideas? What does anyone do for insomnia and night sweats? I am very worried about this. I can't miss many days at school. It's so frustrating to sit in your bed and watch the sun come up, knowing that your day is only going to get harder from there. :( My day was already ruined before it started. I slept from 8:00 to 12:30 and now I don't have the energy to do anything at all... except type or stare at the wall.

Oh my God! I think we had the exact same day. I got some gluten in my system from something I thought was safe (distilled vinegar) but is clearly NOT safe for me. I went to bed at 10 last night, woke up at 12 and I was SOAKED. I had to change the bed sheets, then I got up, puked my guts out, took a hot shower (I was alternately freezing and sweating), fell back to sleep until 5 and pooped by brains out, couldn't sleep from 5-8, went back to bed at 8 a.m. and slept until 11, back to bed at 1 and slept until three.

So, maybe you have some gluten in your diet that is hidden or safe for most Celiac's but not you (I just figured out I can't tolerate any grain products- even triple distilled ones). Also check all your body products, your pans, your pots etc. hang in there- I think we're in the same boat! And it's a shipwreck

I was told that Advil gelcaps are gluten-free. Advil tablets have gluten. I called the manufacter in Feb. 04 and that is what they told me. Maybe it has changed since then. Armetta

I've noticed that I get mild insomnia and anxiety when I am glutened sometimes. I find that the best thing to do is to try and think of something else. I highly doubt that you are going through menopause at 24. It is possible that you ate something that was contaminated. I've been glutened by the mysterious gluten one too many time lately <_<

BERNESES-

I am sorry that your day was as bad as mine! Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I can't have vinegar either. Even vinegars that are made from corn or rice don't agree with me because vinegar is so acidic.

Thanks for all your replies, they were helpful. I don't know why I reacted to the Tylenol and/or Advil, but I don't think I want to take them anymore. Also... I added something new to my diet yesterday that I totally forgot about, I had two full tablespoons of sesame seeds!! I'm thinking I may have a sesame intolerance. It didn't feel quite like a gluten reaction, but it wasn't fun.

Hi If your getting these hot flashes during your period- I would go to doctor and have them check your hormone levels.

Should probably be checked for other things too - when they diagnosed you with celiac, did they screen for the related disorders? Skin crawling and night sweats are especially associated with rheumatoid/tissue troubles. Then again, they could be neurological troubles that are simply related to your previous gluten-filled days.

I had my thyroid checked multiple times and i am having my hormone levels checked tomorrow but mine seem to have subsided EXCEPT when I get glutened.

I get pins and needles and itching in response to dairy and dairy substitutes like soy and almond milk. I get the night sweats as the reaction is ending. I am 4 months gluten free. So, maybe your sweats are from something other than gluten.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
