So I was in the kitchen this morning with my husband. He was microwaving his last breakfast sandwich (yay!) and I was getting my morning cottage cheese, flax and fruit. I looked at him and said I should have started eating flax a long time ago and he asked why. I was like, I've never pooped so much like a normal human being in my life. I said this with a huge smile on my face, genuinely excited. He looked at me as if I'd just been the victim of an alien abduction. :lol: I had to come here and share because at least you guys will get it.

I will look forward to that day. I was just diagnosed last week, after about 14 years of ever increasing symptoms. The toilet was a first warning sign for me. My wife (ex wife now, yes, it cost my marriage) would be so upset at how much time I spent in the bathroom.

It gets better Ron! My GI symptoms improved greatly over the 6ish months since my dx but it wasn't until I added the flax that have truly felt normal in that department.

I'm so sorry that it ruined your marriage. It's a real jerk-detector and the people who have relationships that have endured are truly lucky. I hope you find at least some symptoms resolve quickly for you.

The first time I had a normal bowel movement after being diagnosed with celiac I was so excited and even more excited when I went several days in a row without an attack. I wanted to throw a party.

It does get better with time. I have been gluten free since late February and it took about three months for things to start to return to normal. I still have problems but not every day like I was, now I will go several days with no problems. I am sorry it cost you your marriage, any type of illness can put a strain on marriage.

I went gluten-free for 3 weeks and during that time I felt like a real, normal human being. When I went to the bathroom it was normal, and I wasnt sitting there in agonizing pain with gut wrenching cramps like I am used to.

I would come out of the bathroom with tears in my eyes. It felt like the greatest accomplishment to have a normal movement.

I am now back on gluten because my dr said she did not see any reason to go gluten-free...needless to say, I am switching docs but that also means keepin gluten in my system for a few more weeks in case of further testing.

I miss those "normal" days. It is amazing how quickly the cramping comes back :(

Ohh my God I can only imagine how you must feel! I have been gluten free for 2 months and am having a little bit better bowel movements but I cannot wait until I am actually regular, I told my friends we are having a big party! haha.. I haven't tried the flax yet though but I am going to get on it asap! :)

Well, I am doing the happy dance for you. :lol: I will, in fact, stand up and applaud you right now...hold on....(sounds of IH clapping wildly)

I know you were not super crazy about the ground flax seed idea, but we told ya it would do the trick! That stuff is full of fiber and omega 3's. It's a win-win.

And for what it is worth, I knew where every bathroom was within a 150 mile radius of my home. I have had D or C since I was a babe.

I have had to resort to a lined wastebasket and the side of the road in the great outdoors on occasion. Just peachy. :rolleyes:

When very ill from the celiac, I went and went and went and then... did not. For days. Pain? OY!

Until now. Between the flax, the probiotics and being gluten-free and healing from the celiac damage, I am right as rain for the first time in my entire life.

So, whoohoo and thank the universe for little victories (that are really pretty big indeed!) :)

      @xxnonamexx, There's labeling on those Trubar gluten free high fiber protein bars that say: "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, milk, soy, fish, WHEAT, sesame, and other tree nuts." You may want to avoid products made in shared facilities.   If you are trying to add more fiber to your diet to ease constipation, considering eating more leafy green vegetables and cruciferous vegetables.  Not only are these high in fiber, they also are good sources of magnesium.  Many newly diagnosed are low in magnesium and B vitamins and suffer with constipation.  Thiamine Vitamin B1 and magnesium work together.  Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to improve intestinal health.  Thiamine and magnesium are important to gastrointestinal health and function.

      Welcome to celiac.com @sha1091a! Your experience is a very common one. Celiac disease is one the most underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed medical conditions out there. The reasons are numerous. One key one is that its symptoms mimic so many other diseases. Another is ignorance on the part of the medical community with regard to the range of symptoms that celiac disease can produce. Clinicians often are only looking for classic GI symptoms and are unaware of the many other subsystems in the body that can be damaged before classic GI symptoms manifest, if ever they do. Many celiacs are of the "silent" variety and have few if any GI symptoms while all along, damage is being done to their bodies. In my case, the original symptoms were elevated liver enzymes which I endured for 13 years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. By the grace of God my liver was not destroyed. It is common for the onset of the disease to happen 10 years before you ever get a diagnosis. Thankfully, that is slowly changing as there has developed more awareness on the part of both the medical community and the public in the past 20 years or so. Blessings!

      @EndlessSummer, You said you had an allergy to trees.  People with Birch Allergy can react to green beans (in the legume family) and other vegetables, as well as some fruits.  Look into Oral Allergy Syndrome which can occur at a higher rate in Celiac Disease.   Switching to a low histamine diet for a while can give your body time to rid itself of the extra histamine the body makes with Celiac disease and histamine consumed in the diet.   Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are needed to help the body clear histamine.   Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?

      I found out the age of 68 that I am a celiac. When I was 16, I had my gallbladder removed when I was 24 I was put on a medication because I was told I had fibromyalgia.   going to Doctor’s over many years, not one of them thought to check me out for celiac disease. I am aware that it only started being tested by bloodwork I believe in the late 90s, but still I’m kind of confused why my gallbladder my joint pain flatulent that I complained of constantly was totally ignored. Is it not something that is taught to our medical system? It wasn’t a Doctor Who asked for the test to be done. I asked for it because of something I had read and my test came back positive. My number was quite high.Are there other people out here that had this kind of problems and they were ignored?

      Welcome to celiac.com, @EndlessSummer! Do you react to all vegetables or just specific kinds or families of them? What you describe with green beans sounds like it has an anaphylaxis component. Like you, walnuts are a problem for me. They will often give me a scratchy throat so I try to avoid them. Does it matter if the vegies are raw or will-cooked in how you react to them?
