Feel Like I'm Just Starting gluten-free

Okay, I'm having a hard time recovering from that bug we had last week. And yes, I'm sure it was a bug because my son and I got sick together.

The bug itself was mild - cramping, d, nausea. But it will NOT go away.

To make matters worse at my doctors visit I found out my iron and d are still in the toilet. Technically in the "normal" range but still low, especially iron stores and d. So low they are making me produce excess reverse t3, so I am stuck in hypothyroid hell...

Sigh.

So, I started taking my iron and d again. She wants me to do 2 weeks of 20k d, and right now I am sick over doubling my iron to 50 and taking 4k of d.

She also wants me to take 2 digestive enzymes and 1 probiotic per meal...which I think is excessive.

I have spent the day wanting to vomit and rushing to the bathroom. No d but horrid gas/bm issues (sorry, tmi).

My stomach wasn't this upset when I STARTED gluten-free. This is terrible!!!

I think I'm quitting the d and iron for a few days. I sent my doctor a message about d and iron injections. I mean, why keep taking them if they barely work??? I'm ready for a shot of d. I know iron isn't as easy....

Help!!

I'm sorry to hear this pricklypear. That sounds awful! I wish we could all just get better and stop suffering. Unfortunately, I don't have any words of wisdom. But, I feel for you. Hang in there!

You know what? I'm still tired from last week but my d and stomach issues finally stopped. I still vote virus. I noticed that in previous years when i would get one it would take a few days but never this long.

How long did yours go, overall? My son's seemed to disappear by Saturday - 6 days. I think mine started last Monday, so I'm a week and a half??? Ugh.

shadowicewolf Proficient

about 8 days :( Not fun, not fun.

Maybe I'm just old and weak.

I don't feel the same as I did last week, but I do feel like my gi system has been gutted.

I'm thinking its a more potent bug :( They do change and, dare i say it?, evolve as time goes on.

On a side note, i saw my grandparents today and they said that everyone seems to be getting it.

Yeah, I get the mutant stomach bug. Figures.

I hope "everyone" stays away so I don't get it again.

So, today is better.

Last dose of d and iron and digestive enzyme and probiotic was yesterday around 11 am. Not doing that today.

This morning lots of bathroom visits but no gas like before. No nausea. Seems to be calming down.

So....I wait.

I had that bug. I never had nausea with it but plenty of D and lots of bloating and gas. That was several weeks ago and I am still having some bloating and gas that comes on later in the day. I was thinking it was food related, but now I'm thinking it's lingering effects of the bug. I haven't been eating anything that should cause it. Maybe this thing likes to stick around in the guts of celiacs.

I think the nausea was from the pills - primarily iron.

I must admit I think my digestive enzymes were giving me problems, though, which is weird since I've been on them for years and they are definitely gluten-free.

I'm so sorry Prickly. UGH! A bug!

My iron is okay so I can't speak for those but my D is low so the doc wanted me to take mega doses. I can't do it. Not at that high of a dose. Gives me indigestion like you've never heard of so i had to cut back on it. I am taking a gluten-free liquid & I've experimented & am sure that's what was doing it. So I imagine the combo of iron & D for you is overwhelming.

Thankfully I seem to have missed the bug.

So I looked it up and I've diagnosed myself with bacterial IBS.

Yeah, that's where I'm at at 10:30 pm in Friday night...

I lead an exciting life.

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

So, improving.

Yesterday only 1 bathroom visit after meals.

Today, no visit after breakfast!

I have hope.

squirmingitch Veteran

YAY! Hope is good. Sounds like you're on the mend.

I spoke too soon. Had a bout of it and nausea this afternoon.

One is better than three, I guess.

squirmingitch Veteran

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm so sorry to hear that.sad.gif 1 is better than 3 but none is better than 1. Hoping tomorrow brings better news.

Well, more progress. No nausea and had a day if something resembling "normal" potty habits. Managed to clean house a bit and run myself ragged trying to do 100 things I haven't done for two weeks.

Tomorrow is the true test - appointment with the personal trainer. Here's to hoping I don't have to rush to the ladies room.

I so wish I knew if this was all the virus or if I now react this badly to taking supplaments. I literally hurt when I think if trying to start them up again.

squirmingitch Veteran

Hoping you have good news now. I know, the guessing is a PITA! You don't know if it's this or that or the other or none at all. Makes one nuts!mad.gif

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

Yes, getting better. Monday was pretty normal, yesterday better, today I worked out with my trainer and didn't die.

So far no nausea or d.

Still waiting to start back my supplaments.

Big chicken.

I understand that! When this last big dh outbreak started I had also just begun taking digestive enzymes - gluten-free of course. And I stopped everything when this outbreak happened. I thought I was beginning to heal & no new lesions then I began back on the enzymes yesterday. Last night the back of my upper thigh broke out in about a 6" x 5" area. Soooooo now I wonder & am a big chicken about taking the enzymes again. Or is it all coincidence? That's the trouble --- this stuff screws with your mind so bad.mad.gif

No kidding. I have a hard time taking anything without thinking "OMGWHATISTHISGONNADOTOME?!?!?". Then my stress goes up, etc....

bad cycle is bad.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
