I am curious if Celiac disease is somehow related to chronic halitosis (Bad breath, bb)?

so am i

are there people here who suffered of chronic halitosis and cured after they started gluten free diet?

I just posted a similar thread myself. I'm not sure what is going on with me, but my 'bad breath' didn't start until AFTER I was on the gluten free diet. Not sure if it has something to do with my gut trying to heal itself or what. Even with rigorous oral hygiene, my boyfriend has informed me that there is something 'off' with my breath. I don't understand it...I brush twice a day, floss, never had a cavity, and only drink water - yet still there is something going on there. i believe it has something to do with the gut...so hopefully when the gut heals, the problem will go away.

Just another possibility...my son was dx'd with lactose intolerance and the GI doctor said my son's halitosis was caused by that.

SkyBlue, you have no idea how thankful I am for you right now! I hope the OP finds his/her answer as well. I am also lactose intolerant! I only take my lactaid pills when eating icecream - everything else I don't bother with taking it, since the lactose levels aren't high enough to make me sick.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
