Getting Back On The Potty During Recovery.

My four-year-old has always been funny about the potty. Holding it for hours, literally, to avoid going pee or poop on the potty. We finally had him on track at just under four, this summer, when he started getting terrible diarrhea, almost daily. He never liked going on the potty for number two and with diarrhea, forget about it. He's been gluten free for two weeks and I'm still trying to sort out if he's getting gluten somehow or having other intolerance, like lactose, but I want to get him back into normal toileting. So he still has some diarrhea, like today, but he's getting better slowly.

I want to get him using the toilet again as he gets better. But I also know he has really bad associations with number two especially, and is embarrassed. Any advice? I keep him regular underwear but if he's at school, until the diarrhea definitely is solved, he has to be in a pullup. Same when he's with a babysitter (just because I feel bad otherwise).

Thanks,

Megan

reward chart might work.

For everytime he goes to the potty, put a sticker up on a piece of paper. When so many have been collected, give him a treat (perhaps a small piece of candy or a toy).

@StuartJ, what brand of gluten-free flour did she use?

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
