  1. Hi all! I'm thinking of trying some kefir. Is it necessary to make your own? I found some that says "gluten-free". I'm SO nervous to try anything new but I'm thinking I might be ready to try some dairy. Any suggestions or info is greatly appreciated. I've been gluten, soy, dairy, corn, legume and nightshade-lite for about 10 months. I am thinking of...
  2. Yay! Rival! Very good crockpot, helper for those with time management issues, delicious food maker! Yes, good brand. lisa
  3. It's the Paleolithic diet- the way we ate for millions of years. No grains at all! No dairy, nothing that needs cooking in order to eat it. Hence, potatos which have a toxin in them and beans which need cooking are out. Most legumes are out. What we killed with sticks (meat, fish, chicken...) and picked off trees and ate from the ground- most veggies...
  4. There are several people on here who have tried it. I am on a modified one, actually more the Paleolithic diet (the way we ate as hunter-gatherers for millions of years) which goes a step beyond SCD, but I'm eating some rice. I don't use dairy and homemade yogurt is a big component of Elaine Gottschall's diet. Her book describing the diet is called "Breaking...
  5. I don't digest legumes, nightshade vegetables corn or tapioca well at all. I've seen several others post here that tapioca bothers them as well, so yes, it is possible. I stick to really basic ingredients and cook most all of my food from scratch. Now when I add anything new I do it ONE painstaking ingredient at a time! It's a drag, but, it's the only...
  6. Wow! Thank you! I'm going to try them this weekend! Thanks again! lisa
  7. Two weeks before are atrocious. Nearing 50 so that probably doesn't help. But, yes! I think it impacts. lisa
  8. I have your same genes and I feel sometimes I'm intolerant to FOOD! No good advice, just maybe to keep a food log- I've kept one for nearly a year now and it has actually helped find culprits. It's second nature to me now to write down what I ate all day. (Not too hard- I don't eat much!) Yes, I, too, wish they knew more about gluten intolerance. Hope...
  9. Yes, I would like to make meringue cookies. If you see this could you point me towards a recipe? Thank you! lisa
  10. Hi. I use Lancome's Rouge Absolu line (gluten-free), although it, too, is pricey. Good luck! There's also Ecco Bella for mid-range. lisa
  11. Can you guys post some of your cat litter recipes? I had no idea it was so versatile. Sorry, I couldn't resist... I'm not being snarky, it's just an amusing image- all of us desperate for food chowing down litter. Actually I appreciate the "head's up". With 5 cats clomping around in that stuff it never occured to me they were spreading the evil gluten...
  12. RiceGuy Okay, maybe I'll try some pecan. That's interesting to me about the pumpkin seeds; I've been wanting to bake some up in salt and give them a whirl, although I think they might be quite rough on the old intestines, you know? Thank you for all your thoughts. lisa
  13. Geoff, I absolutely think you may have some other food intolerances. I had a glorious honeymoon of relatively symptomless living for about a month before things started showing up. I have now spent close to a year gluten, soy, corn and dairy-free. I have kept a food log (I'm freaking religious about it- it's nuts!) But, hey, I don't eat much so it's...
  14. I completely agree with Ravenwoodglass, try the diet WHILE you are undergoing other testing. No harm will be done, indeed, many people claim to feel better on a gluten-free diet even when they've experienced no ailments and do it only for a loved one who is celiac. If you are strict with it for a month you will know if you see some changes in your well...
  15. Oh yes, Rice Guy, the nut flour I had was almond which I made myself. I actually eat a few almonds- I don't know if it was just too much. I had two and a half small muffins at once. It also happened when I had yet to sift out all the hidden glute in my diet. But my throat got very fuzzy and I felt a little tight in my chest-I didn't like it! thank you...
  16. Thank you all very much. I'm going to try that Cobbler. lisa
  17. Thank you Debbie (Wowzer, too), I do have that book and actually had a kind of weird reaction to the nut flour so I don't use it. Thank you though. I'm going to have to wait, though, as I'm reacting again after almost a month of doing pretty great. Gggrrrr..... lisa
  18. Are you still eating gluten? Bone pain continued for awhile for me until I got all the gluten out of my diet. Acupuncture works wonders for me for many different symptoms and ailments- it's worth seeing if your doc will write a script for it so you can bill insurance if you have it. I hope you feel better soon. Others will most likely post! lisa
  19. Thank you Debbie and RiceGuy, I don't know about arrowroot, but thank you for all your suggestions. I will attempt some of them! lisa
  20. Thank you all so much! I will try these. Patti, no, I don't eat potato right now (I have a really limited diet right now- I just react to FOOD, I guess), but, thank you! I'm also wondering what would happen if I left the xantham gum out of the recipe. Thanks for all your help everyone! lisa
  21. Hi! Would anyone happen to know how to make either a cookie or a cake without many other ingredients? i.e.: sans tapioca, xantham gum, soy, honey? I know, this is a tall order but I can't find anything on here like this so perhaps it's impossible. Thanks for any help! lisa
  22. Yes, I used to enjoy Rice Dream before I found the barley in it. I make my own: Make one cup (cooked) sushi rice. Put in blender with 2 quarts Boiling water (a little at a time) Sucanat or Turbinado sugar (if you like) and gluten-free vanilla. Blend. Strain out rice and keep it for the week! It's not thick, but, it's good and you know what's in it...
  23. I don't know what sour patch kids are, but sugar itself shouldn't have gluten issues. Domino is gluten-free. I suspect it's something else in there if it's a processed candy. Good luck. Hopefully others will post. lisa
