  1. Ravenwoodglass, Holy mackerel! Yes, the old CAN opener- YIKES! Thank you- I am going to buy some St. Joseph's tomorrow. You have been very kind. Yes, I'm hoping to get to the bottom of this soon! Thank you! lisa
  2. Ravenwoodglass, Thank you again. I'm pretty sure this is gluten. I've also had salmonella and it was NO picnic. Unlike many with gluten issues, I get severe bloat with a lot of pain, CONSTIPATION alternating (SOMETIMES) with D, low back pain, much intestinal pain, red, burning eyes and just generally feel like I can't leave the the house 'cause I don...
  3. Thank you, Ravenwoodglass. It's nice to hear a few words of encouragement as I am having my first "sustained" glutening, (meaning I can't seem to get it to stop even as I eliminate any and every suspect thing) in awhile. This is the sixth day of unabating symptoms and even worsening symptoms and I'm really fed up. Sometimes I think it'd be easier just...
  4. Jayhawkmom, Thank you for the tip! I'll check that out! lisa
  5. I think I'm very much out of your age-range, but I thought I'd say I keep a detailed food log and I ABSOLUTELY have a HORRIBLE time around my period. I am nearly 50, though, and do have a fibroid, but I NEVER had PMS until now and it is quite intense- sort of a constant early labor type contraction. And if I get glutened during or before my period it seems...
  6. Ravenwoodglass, Thank you so much! When I get over this last glutening, I'm going to try it! lisa
  7. Hi again. Has anyone tried Pocono (brand) Kasha buckwheat? It claims it's gluten-free; their web-site claims dedicated lines and all but I'm always nervous about eating a new thing. I'd just like to add another grain besides rice to my diet. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have the "organic roasted buckwheat groats- cracked granulation". Thank...
  8. Cassidy, Thank you very much! I will take your advice! lisa
  9. Thank you all for your posts. Cassidy- if you read this again would you mind naming the other safe brands you feel good about? I wasn't sure about Newman's, Carla, maybe I will try that now. After a long, good stretch (a few weeks- I guess not that long) I just got HORRIBLY glutened last night. Unfortunately, the only different thing was Perdue whole...
  10. Hi. I haven't looked at the computer in a long time. Today in a daze I looked at this site again and (I don't know WHERE!) saw some things written about Amy's products not truly being gluten-free. Having recently introduced Amy's Tomato/Basil pasta sauce with seemingly no trouble I am wondering if it's just certain products that have problems or the whole...
  11. Jerry, I can't see a DHL truck now without thinking of it as loaded with poop. Cracks me up everytime. lisa
  12. It occured to me during Thanksgiving dinner when several well-intentioned family members were urging me to try the pecan pie, amongst other things, and eyebrows were being raised at my pre-made meal, that if one is a diabetic it seems most people don't urge you to have a few snickers bars or suggest you knock off the insulin shots for the day. You know?...
  13. Thanks for the tip about the Salt Water Grill! I'm just seeing this so you probably won't see my thank you! lisa
  14. Hi! Traveling for the first time since diagnosed to one of my favorite cities. Wondering if anyone out there knows of a gluten-free or gluten-savvy restaurant in Old Quebec? Thanks very much in advance if you do! We stay just below the Chateau Frontenac on Rue St.Anne and like to walk most everywhere if that helps. lisa
  15. Okay, I just screwed up that response somehow- maybe it can be figured out. Sorry! lisa
  16. Welcome and good luck to you! Sounds like you're doing well. Don't be discouraged if you have some set-backs- it seems to go with the territory! Take care. lisa
  17. My doctor, Gluten-savvy, says NO FLU SHOT for me! She claims my immune system is in overdrive already. I used to get them, but I'm going without! For what it's worth. lisa
  18. Geez, a fellow double DQ1 agrees about the reactivity issue! A rose by any other name... lisa
  19. I was glutened two days before Thanksgiving at a restaurant and one of the many unpleasant reactions is a horrible sore (cold sore?) on the top of my palate between my two front teeth. It's still ouchy after 5 days. I was getting this and other things before going gluten-free: chancres in mouth, ridges on sides of mouth, fuzzy feeling in throat and pimples...
  20. Thanks, Amanda, for the info. I just began my animals (2 dogs, 5 cats- Yikes! Whose idea was that?) on the Canidae and feline one. We'll see how they do. Pricey, though. lisa
  21. I definitely think it could be the antis. I have a long-standing sinus infection that my regular doc doesn't want me on antibiotics for (me either) because, "your immune system is wound up enough"! (her words) It does make sense given gluten intolerant and celiac people have an immune system that is basically attacking itself, as well as the fact the antibiotics...
  22. I had a feeling like that all the while I breastfed my daughter except it also extended to the back of my throat. Eventually saw an ear, nose throat guy 'cause I was going nuts, but no one ever found anything. I still have odd 'mouth" reactions to food on occassion-(now I'm going through menopause) I think it might be hormonal. It's very weird, though...
  23. I'm sorry for your pain! I just went out to dinner to the only place I'll go 2 nights ago and STILL don't know for sure what did it. (It's afriends' restaurant and they understand celiac and I ONLY have a beef brochette) But I woke in the middle of the night in the same agony I had for a year before diagnosis. Then when I got up I looked in the mirror...
  24. I recently found that Tinkyada makes a WHITE rice pasta and it is easier for me to digest. (I've always had issues with rice.) So for my family I can cook the brown rice types but for me, I've been having the white rice spaghetti and it works better. Just thought I'd chime in even though it doesn't seem like you have any problems with rice. (yay!) lisa
  25. Ark, There's a teenager section on this board- maybe he'd like to look at that? Teens are so mercurial anyway that possibly having celiac to add to that will probably cause some initial crazy mood swings. I work with a few teens who have celiac and they seem to have the swing of the diet and also a lot of support from their friends, although I know it...
