  1. Scotty, I can't believe you wrote this- I was just about to write and ask people about trouble with hamburger! I stopped eating ground beef about 5 months ago because it seemed I was reacting to it. All I can think is perhaps hamburger is ground on machines that then grind sausage or something else that has the evil gluten in it. Sometimes lettuce...
  2. So sorry for your woes- that is TOO hard! The stress could do it alone and then, if you're not used to the Progresso clam chowder", you could just be reacting because it's new. I find when I'm introducing new foods after so long on a strict diet that it takes awhile for me to get used to them. Assuming you've checked cosmetics, shampoos, hand creams and...
  3. I'm glad you have an appt. and wish for the best for you. Hope they can get to the bottom of it. lisa
  4. Melmarl 5, The things that Patti and Fiddle-Faddle mention are what was concerning me as well. (And I will add that gluten gives me a horrible, ache and sometimes stabbing pain in and around my left hip-bone) Be sure to INSIST on a transvaginal ultrasound- it is more revealing than the other. And it really COULD be trapped gas, but you just want to be...
  5. I think it's important to get your reproductive system checked out. You may need an ultrasound (transvaginal) amongst other things. Look up endrometriosis- it has some symptoms that mimic celiac and vice versa. It's tricky sometimes to know what is causing some symptoms. Your age may be important- if you are peri-menopausal, for instance, that could exacerbate...
  6. This is so lame, but, being highly reactive I actually think about things like that. Sigh.
  7. Thanks, Patti! Now to add to the fun, I just got stung by a bee! Good old Life! Thanks for your good wishes, lisa
  8. Thank you, Ravenwoodglass! Yes, I have a problem with the old "post nasal drip" as well so that's why I got suspicious. I WILL wear a mask; thank you! lisa
  9. Hi Everyone, Recently suffered a suspected glutening after a FABULOUS month (Wow!) and, once again, can't pinpoint the culprit. I work doing floral design in summers and the day before the hideous night was in a loft cleaning tons of old, dried flowers and WHEAT (used in arrangements). Dust was everywhere although I was being careful. Is it possible I...
  10. That is SO hard. I've worked for years with emotionally disturbed teens, many of whom have substance abuse issues and issues with the law. I'm also a mom so, it's hard for me to say this to you, but she probably needs to "fall harder" before she changes her ways. If she does. It's hard for me to watch teens who aren't my own go that way and to LET them...
  11. Another voice to let you know you're not alone. Yes, me, too! 35 years of an IBS diagnosis and C or D alternating. But, if glutened now I feel as if concrete was poured through my system and everything is frozen and bloated and distended and VERY painful. Also, joint pain, hip pain, gurgle, "snakes in my belly", red eyes... blah, blah, blah... 3 days...
  12. Just to be safe, have you seen a gynecologist and had things checked out there? Bloat can be indicative of other things. I have bloating from gluten and I THINK from some other intolerances, too. I agree, wouldn't it be nice if the things that are supposed to nourish us wouldn't hurt?!!! Hope you figure it out. (I know it's horrible to lose something...
  13. you're welcome.
  14. I am over a year into this after waiting 35 years for a correct diagnosis! It IS difficult and although I am VIGILANT and have a food list I could write on my pinky finger, I STILL get sick sometimes! Like right now! And I have NO IDEA what the heck it is. This is coming from someone who lives in a gluten-free house and NEVER eats what I don't cook. ...
  15. Just wanted to add, referring to the sub-title of this thread- Guys, if "you don't want to go here", maybe you'd better not go "there". Sorry, but, if we're having relationships, we'd better be able to handle all involved... lisa
  16. Such an interesting thread. LOVE hearing from a molecular biologist- thank you, Jenny! Just thought I'd chime in as another case of positive tTG with NEGATIVE biopsy. Positive dietary response. And 36 years with an IBS diagnosis. Very clearly sick before gluten-free, though. No DQ 2 or 8 genes. 2 DQ 1s. Clearly, more research is desperately needed...
  17. You may need some time off of all grains. I had to do that and now am using some rice again. However, I have NEVER tolerated plain old cooked rice no matter how "easily digestible" many say it is. You may later on want to try some occasional Tinkyada pasta. I would start with the white type first. Or an occasional Lundberg rice cake. I toast them. ...
  18. You seem young it's probably not an aging/life-change thing. But, you now have me wondering... I am a year gluten-free and my periods are wretched. Terrible cramps (I could describe some as early laborish), much PMS build-up, and extremely irregular. HOWEVER! I do know I am nearing menopause (I'm 49) Curious, though. Never had PMS before. Also, a...
  19. If it's lipstick, you eat it, so don't know why anyone would say that's okay.
  20. Is "soya' soy? If so, I'd get rid of it and see. Yes, if you are highly intolerant it could be trace amts in make-up or tea or... Soy bothers me awfully. lisa
  21. Why would ANYTHING that isn't a grain have gluten in it? There's a question. Sorry, very cynical about our food supply and our inability to grow and cook our own! lisa
  22. Be sure to ask them to use untreated gloves. (some use powders with gluten) For tooth-polishing my dentist has me bring my own toothpaste. (Tom's of Maine) lisa
  23. Hi. Thank you for posting and I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that! The tail bone pain seems related to the gluten; it's gone now, I hope for good, but I do still get pain in my left hip bone from some foods. Weird, I know. Those pains are always worse at night for me, maybe because I'm digesting dinner? I wish I had some better answers for...
  24. Hi. I'm interested in a bit of an informal survey of those of you who have two DQ1 genes and what your symptoms are/were and perhaps what other food intolerances you have. Just something as brief as can be. Also, if anyone knows of any other labs/researchers who recognize DQ1 as related to gluten-intolerance besides Dr. Fine's Enterolab. For instance...
