  1. Dani, Food poisoning can take quite a bit to get over. On the other hand, if you think it was a glutening, go to just whole foods you make yourself- nothing processed- until it calms down. The body pains you describe remind me of when I had salmonella poisoning about a year ago. It took me weeks to fully recover. (In fact, I think it may have been an...
  2. Danielle and Spunky and all, You sound very much like me when I'm glutened and it is NO fun! Now I often can't find what did it because of either a delay in symptom-onset or because the symptoms go on for so long. But it usually happens when I try to add in a processed food that SEEMS gluten-free, but I'm not sure. (Like a chocolate bar that seems like...
  3. Thank you both very much! I did let the hygienist (yikes, spelling?) know but she was new and young. I guess I'll need to speak with my dentist. I didn't think about it all until I was there in the chair! lisa
  4. Hi All. I think I may have been glutened while having my teeth cleaned. I had a reaction afterwards for a few days and wonder if it was the tooth polishing paste. (I haven't yet called to ask for ingredients.) But I'm thinking I'll bring my own toothpaste next time I have my teeth cleaned. Any insight, anyone? Thanks. lisa
  5. Megan, Me, too, for the most part. Very sensitive before removing gluten. lisa
  6. Chgomom, I've been flirting with trying buckwheat- my French mom grew up with buckwheat pancakes and I learned to love them. Thanks for the info! By the way, it's always so good to see John Lennon's face. Peace. lisa
  7. No, Katherine, I eat the Erewhon ones. Sorry, that's what I meant, but thank you! lisa
  8. Kathy Ann I know I could sure use a trained "celiac guide"! It absolutely feels that we're on our own in the conventional medical community. I'm not even sure if I can get my regular doc to run the celiac panel again when I see her in a couple of weeks, because she'll probably think without a conclusive biopsy, that I have no problem with gluten. But...
  9. Hi, 5'8"- so, don't fit the picture with that. lisa
  10. Jen If you find that's not enough- Lancome(pricey, but worth it) and Ecco Bella I know are gluten-free. The Lancome line is called "Rouge Absolu". good luck to you again! lisa
  11. RickC, Hi, and welcome to the Board. I'm from Southern Maine and diagnosed myself through positive bloodwork and then Enterolab in June. I'm still in the paranoid phase and only eat out at a friends' restaurant where they grow their own organic food and they know about gluten. (It's a great place called "Joshua"s" and it's on Route 1 in Wells.) There...
  12. Jencuz, Gosh, I agree with others here- please go off the gluten! Man, do I remember the hellish symptoms you are describing. I am by no means "cured", but when I read what you've written, it makes me remember viscerally the pain, the bloat, the discomfort, the sleepless nights (still a bit of an issue, but better) and ALL the rest of it. It's horrible...
  13. Gail, I'm just like you in that regard! And you are SMART! There are several studies that have shown one of the BEST ways to get cold germs is via shopping cart handles. That's why I'm loathe to give up my Germ X or Purell. (All bets are on Purell now- Germ X has no clue where its Vit E comes from.) Take care. lisa
  14. Wow, Thanks everyone for your insight on this issue. I am feeling like a "Gluten-free Nazi" in my home and now at work. BUT, I think maybe I'm going to have to request that all gluten at school stays at the big round table AWAY from me! Including asking my partner, who I've worked with for five years and is one of my best friends, to only eat there. ...
  15. Scheherezade, Brilliant name. Welcome. I would definitely continue to keep you alive and going gluten-free might help you as well keeping those stories coming! I belong to a Playback Theatre Company- Portland, Me. Do you know Playback? Been around for 30 years or so, Internationally, companies go into all sorts of different venues, hear people's stories...
  16. Don't know what happened there- not computer-savvy, but my reply got mixed in with previous quote. Ggrrr... anyway, anyone who reads this may get the jist. lisa
  17. Thanks, Ursula, I don't use the sanitizers for gluten- I use it for germs! Working in a High School gives MUCHO opportunity for infection and it's been proven that washing hands cuts the rate in half. Impossible to actually go wash your hands in the bathroom all the time, hence the hand sanitizers. Thanks, though! lisa
  18. Lee A deep lower backache comes with a glutening for me. The car may exacerbate it as others have said, but I suspect the dinner out contributed. I always encourage stretching to help, but for me, I just have to ride it out. Hope relief has come for you. lisa
  19. Sorry that happened to you! speaking of hand sanitizers, I'm trying to find one without Vit E so it's gluten-free. I use them constantly in a room at school where many teenagers bring their gluten-loaded lunches. (Although they're learning probably more than they want to know about gluten-intolerance and DO want to take care of me- hence big, bad angry...
  20. Britni, Welcome to the Board and, yes, it is genetic, and, yes, it's a good idea for family members to be tested. Keep reading here. There's lots of good info and help from many different people. We are all trying to cope with either celiac or gluten-intolerance. Good luck to you and get well! lisa
  21. Thanks, Nini. I know something is getting in and I'm just wondering if it's that because I practically bathe in it during the day at school (a bit paranoid about germs since having pneumonia 3 years ago) I'll try the company again when I have time and let all know what they say. lisa
  22. Hi Guys, Anyone know if the alcohol-based hand sanitizer Purell (that DOES have Vit E in it) is gluten-free? The GermX company could not confirm the source of their Vit E, so not sure if gluten-free. I can't seem to get through to a person at Purell and their web-site doesn't answer this. We practically drink this stuff (kidding) in our program at school...
  23. Patti, Thank you. I used to have a senior cat on Science Diet. I think I'll go get some from my vet. Thanks! lisa
  24. Thank you for all this info about gluten-free petfood everyone! I have 2 large dogs (golden/yellow lab mix and german shephard/collie mix- I'm a fan of shelter dogs) and 5, yes, count 'em, five, cats. I have such suspicion I'm getting a bit glutened by all their food so this info is useful. I just hope I can find some food I can afford. And, having buried...
