ARCHIVED Oats?
Mayflowers replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That article on the study of 9 celiacs being reactive to oats is disappointing. They said that even one who seemed to be tolerating it was in fact not. I tried the glutenfree oats site and they are all sold out of oats until October. They aren't cheap. $10 for 2 lbs. With my luck, I'm probably the one in 250 that would react. -

I, and many others will say the same thing. I am very happy with Enterolab's service, shipping and speedy delivery of my kit. Why don't you try them? I know for the first time that I'm gluten intolerant, along with egg, soy and cow dairy intolerant also. I also know that I carry the celiac gene and gluten intolerance gene. No one in my family ever knew... -

Dr. Schwarzbein, (Suzanne Somers endocrinologist) says that to heal burned out adrenals you have to give up all stimulants, and alcohol and follow a lower carb diet. Is that what Dr. Hanley says too? -
ARCHIVED Thinking Of Mcdougalling
Mayflowers replied to Mayflowers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Seems like most doctors are doing that now. Atkins, Ornish, Williams, Mercola, Weil, McDougall, Lark...to name a few.. I get a ton of offers for health newsletters from different MD's selling their theories. I happen to love vegetables so maybe it could work for me. Oh well, I could always eat fish and say I'm a vegetarian like most ovo-lacto's do... -
ARCHIVED Oats?

Hmmm, I've read that too. I'll try them and see if my arthritis gets worse. That's my inidication of a reaction usually. Pain in my knee gets worse. -
ARCHIVED Sourdough Wheat Bread?
Mayflowers posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi I just read this on Dr. Mc Dougall's website in his 2005 newsletter on celiac. *Lactobacilli bacteria are used to make sourdough bread, which will remove (hydrolyze) most of the gluten and make the wheat tolerable for most people with celiac disease.2 This info he provided was taken from a medical journal. What do you think about that? Safe... -

Thanks for the tip. I'll buy McCanns. I'm Irish and I love Irish Oatmeal. -
ARCHIVED Thinking Of Mcdougalling
Mayflowers replied to Mayflowers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yeah, I'm pretty intolerant to a few things. Now I think rice. I've been eating a lot of rice and my knee is killing me all of a sudden! Dr. Mc Dougall is an MD in California who has books out about being a vegan. He had a stroke at 18 and he realized it was his diet. He developed an extremely low fat vegan diet and he has website. www.drmcdougall... -

Thanks for your replies . Out of all the meats, turkey and chicken were my favs (and lobster). I can eat salmon, but I don't like it that much. I'm not a big fish lover, only fried fish on rye.... I do like seafood, crabs, lobster, clams, Dr. McDougall is vegan. He doesn't advocate dairy, soy, or added oils. He's not even crazy about nuts. He... -
My problem is that I'm intolerant to eggs, dairy, soy, chicken, beef, flounder, and pork. Are there any successful celiac vegetarians lurking here? Most every post that I've read the people are ex-vegetarians for lack of choices or too hard to cook? Right now I'm eating....turkey... and I've Dr. McDougall's books and his opinion on vegetarianism. Please...

I agree. It could be something else. You look young but are you nearing menopause? I look younger than 50 (as told to me by my coworkers). I'm in menopause and fatigue is a major symptom. It could be thyroid, or anemia (iron or B12). I've felt much better since I went gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Egg White Allergy
Mayflowers replied to tailz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not allergic to eggs but I had the Enterolab test done for eggs and I'm intolerant. I wrote them and asked if I could at least eat the whites and they wrote back and said it's the protein in the whites that I'm intolerant to. I could eat the yolks if I can separate the egg. I cook, so that's not a problem if I want to eat them. -
ARCHIVED Oats?
Mayflowers replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just read an article by Scott Adams saying that all you have to do is rinse the oats in cold water if your worried about wheat dust contamination before cooking. duh. And here I am not eating oats all this time...Guess what I'm having for breakfast? -
I'm recently diagnosed and I'm looking for friends in NJ I live in central Jersey, Metuchen, Edison area.

I haven't read any posts saying the same thing but since I went gluten free, food....really tastes better! My taste has improved like when you quit smoking..ya know? Maybe that has something to do with eating more. I've noticed I'm hungrier too and I can't afford to gain weight. I'm one of those who gained weight ..about 40 pounds worth. Personally I think...

"Pain below the diaphram" That was my reason for suspecting wheat intolerance. I got pressure, pain and gas with a lot of burping when I ate wheat, mainly whole dense wheat bread. -

I think the problem is that because you don't have any GI symptoms, you think your ok. If you did some more research on Celiac disease you'd see it doesn't always manifest as diarrhea or abdominal pain and cramping. It will slowly destroy your body by causing arthritis, auto-immune diseases, diabetes, cancer, depression, anxiety, and believe it or not... -
ARCHIVED Optimum Health Resource Laboratories?

I think Enterolab testing is more accurate. I waited 2 weeks for my results. A gluten test is $99 and you can also test for eggs, soy, and yeast for $199. However, I'd like to get the A.L.C.A.T. test to see if the same intolerances are there. -

If you still would like to know, get the Enterolab gluten intolerance test. It's a stool specimen test. See my results --- 10 or higher means there is gluten intolerance. I did the test so I will stay on my eating plan. It would be too easy for me to cheat if I didn't have the numbers in my face to remind me I'm doing damage to my body if I eat gluten.... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Test

I read that milk and dairy inhibit the absorbtion of iron. No wonder I was always anemic as a kid. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or York
Mayflowers replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, and you can get the simple gluten intolerance test alone for only $99 at Enterolab, if you really want to know if you're gluten intolerant. I wanted to know if I had the celiac gene, which I do, so I paid for the expensive test which told me I was also intolerant to milk. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Test

One of the main arguments against meat is that all the toxins, pesticides, pollution, chemicals, drugs are absorbed in the fat of the animal. When you eat animals, you get a huge dose of the poisons I just mentioned compared to very little if eating vegetarian. Even eating organic meat you'd still have the aforementioned poisons in the fat of the animal... -

I'll tell you what is accurate. The Enterolab looking at your DNA, that is accurate. How much more accurate do you want? I have the celiac gene AND the gluten intolerance gene. Don't need an iffy blood test to tell me anything about that. I'm thinking about getting the A.L.C.A.T. blood test for food allergies/intolerances. Something like 150 foods... -

Oh, yeah, organic is expensive. I have a Wild Oats near me and also a Whole Foods store, so I can get organic beef. Six kids?!! Good heavens! I can barely handle 2 kids who now are teens... I try to buy organic produce and when I buy beef it's Angus, which is supposed to be all natural. Thanks for the calcium support Ursula. I'll start... -

Are you serious? A size 0? That's way too underweight. No one on this God's green earth should be a size 0. I don't understand what the obsession with weight is with the younger girls! I just want to be healthy and thin.. not a stick. Have you seen the starlets on the cover of this week's Enquire? Girl, if you look like Nicole Richie, or Keira Knightly...
