  1. Hunt's tomato paste is fine...there is no gluten. Open Original Shared Link Michelle
  2. I'm planning on starting it this summer. Just too much going on right now to give the diet the focus it deserves (although I've managed to get into a good groove with being gluten free now! ) Michelle
  3. Are you referring to cryptosporidium? It is resistant to chlorine, but it can be removed from the water, and you shouldn't be finding it in bottled water...if it is found there, then there are some serious problems with how the water is treated and bottled. Otherwise, cryptosporidium can be killed through boiling the water. You can find more info here: Open...
  4. Chlorine is a necessary part of our water treatment, otherwise it would be very unsafe to drink tap water. If you let the tap water sit for 24 hours, however, chlorine will gas off. The tap water in our area is treated with chloramine (chlorine and ammonia) and does not readily gas off. I'm a little concerned about the effects of that, along with other components...
  5. I haven't lived in Vancouver for a while now, but used to love eating out there...so many choices! Cara owns Swiss Chalet as well as Milestone's, Montana's, Harvey's and Second Cup. I know that Montana's can accomodate gluten free, and bet that Milestone's can too. Also there are lots of choices for good Indian food (lots of gluten free choices.) Not to...
  6. A pavlova would be really good. Michelle
  7. We don't know the safety of rice from other countries though. There could be arsenic or other contaminants in their products as well. For example, rice protein and wheat gluten contaminated with melamine coming from China. (Open Original Shared Link) There is potential contamination with all sorts of foods beyond rice too. Then add on air pollution, local...
  8. What about doing a potato salad instead? It's naturally gluten free, and potatoes are cheap! I think banana splits would be good for dessert. Or a cheesecake or pie made with gluten free cookie crumbs for the crust. Yum! Michelle
  9. Can you get a copy of your original blood tests to see the original results and compare to the more recent tests? It's likely that the negative results you're getting now are because of being gluten free for so long. Michelle
  10. Welcome Sam! I'm so glad you were able to find that a gluten free diet is helpful for you. It really is a shame that your doctor didn't recognize the connection between diabetes & celiac...but its good to hear that the doctor is recognizing how this change in your eating habits is helping. Does your doctor want to do any further testing for diagnosis...
  11. The 8 major food allergens must be listed. Wheat is one of those 8, but not barley, rye or oats. So, no, if wheat is not listed it doesn't mean that it is necessarily gluten free. However, I am confused as to the brand of ketchup you are talking about. Is it Huntz or Hunt's? If it's Hunt's, then here is the most up-to-date info on gluten free products...
  12. Apparently there is a stronger correlation between celiac and alopecia areata than once thought. A Google search came up with this Pubmed article: Open Original Shared Link Celiac disease and alopecia areata: report of a new association. Corazza GR, Andreani ML, Venturo N, Bernardi M, Tosti A, Gasbarrini G. Department of Internal Medicine...
  13. Alopecia can definitely be connected to celiac disease. Your daughter has only been gluten free just under 3 weeks, so it would not be surprising if her body is still showing effects of gluten ingestion...and it's also possible that she is still getting gluten from something in her diet, perhaps from cross contamination. Keep up with the gluten free diet...
  14. Just another idea to throw in... Have you considered having a "fake" wedding cake for the official cake cutting photos and then having a separate, simple gluten free cake that is served to guests? I've seen it done at weddings here...essentially an elaborately decorated fake cake is rented from a bakery. Instead of cake, you could also choose to serve an...

    ARCHIVED Scd Diet

Yes, it's supposed to be. I really recommend reading Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottshcall. Or at least checking out her website: Open Original Shared Link Michelle
  16. I'm pretty sure it won't be coming to Canada. There is a push to get people to vaccinate now, but the public health nurses (at least here) will stop calling when you say you do not participate in vaccination and would prefer to not be contacted with reminders (there is no religious or medical reason needed here.) It's become easier to say no now than it used...
  17. I think there may be some variation in how DH presents itself, and how severe the outbreaks are. Hopefully your tests give you the info you need. Check out this website for information...they have some good pictures as well: Open Original Shared Link Michelle
  18. It sounds like he took a sizeable sample, but if it is of the lesion itself it will come back negative. Perhaps if the sample taken had health skin too, and the lab is careful to test all of the tissue, you may get a clear result. I've read that the lab also needs to be experienced in testing for DH to ensure that the results are accurate. Unfortunately,...
  19. I think you're right to suspect celiac. Regardless of whether you get neg or pos test results you should definitely continue eating gluten free if it's helping. In terms of the DH test, it is very possible to get a false negative. If the doctor takes the sample from the wrong spot, you're pretty much guaranteed a negative result. The biopsy must be taken...
  20. I was surprised to see the same product placement at my local Safeway. I pointed it out to the manager, but it didn't make a difference...still placed the same way. I think part of it is about putting specialty items together or keeping the smaller packages on the same shelves. Another issue is that companies pay for specific product placement. The bigger...
  21. Except that there is value in endoscopy beyond doing a biopsy for celiac. Visual inspection of the stomach & duodenum may give clues to other issues that are impacting your health, and can guide the doctor in proper treatment. A genetic test, however, may not give you the answers you want...especially if there is a celiac or gluten intolerant gene at...
  22. Yes, you can get genetic testing done in Canada. Not sure how many labs do it though...and the testing is expensive, so you may find a doctor is reluctant to make a request for it without a good reason to do so (ie, if no one in your family has previously been diagnosed with celiac, then genetic testing would not be ordered for you.) Of course, YMMV, so you...
  23. There is ongoing controvesy about McDs fries. The fries served in Canada supposedly do not have gluten ingredients, but there is always the risk of CC. Open Original Shared Link I was really pleased with New York Fries. They had an ingredients list I could check out, and were familiar with celiac...apparently they have a number of celiac customers. What...

    ARCHIVED Scd Diet

It should. The point of the diet is to help the gut properly heal. Michelle
