  1. Not all brand name products listed are gluten free in other countries. For example, Lea & Perrins worchestershire sauce is not safe in Canada or Europe...only the version made and sold in the U.S. is gluten free...the version sold in Canada is from the U.K. Definitely something to be aware of when travelling abroad. Michelle
  2. Has he tried Blue Diamond Nut-Thins? They are incredible. Aside from crackers, though, what about veggies and hummus? Corn tortillas would be good for dipping too. Fresh fruit with vanilla yogurt dip (I like Astro Jeunesse yogurt for this.) Asparagus spears with cream cheese and ham comes to mind too. Also proscuitto and melon, scallops wrapped with...
  3. This is my absolute favourite pasta salad. It's a whole meal in itself...and is vegetarian. It's from Canadian Living's Best One Dish Meals cookbook. It says it makes 4 servings, but that is if it's served as the only dish in a meal. As a side, it goes much further. Michelle Make-Ahead Penne Salad 2 cups penne 1/2 cup snow peas 1/3 cup mayonnaise...
  4. All Kraft peanut butters are gluten free, BTW. AFAIK they are not sold in the U.S. Michelle
  5. Have you considered it could be the onion? I've recently been having a hard time with raw onion (causes intense stomach pain)...I'm very disappointed that this is happening as onion is one of my favourites (in any variety & form - raw or cooked). It's not surprising to me either, however, since there is a family history of intolerance to onion. Michelle
  6. Habs is the nickname for the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. I believe it stands for les habitants. Michelle
  7. So, I did an Google image search for folliculitis and found pictures that pretty much look exactly like the pictures I've seen of DH. I'd recommend doing a biopsy to confirm whether it's DH or not. Michelle
  8. My inner ears get itchy when I eat a food I'm allergic to (along with itchy lips and throat.) Michelle
  9. More info from ABC News: Open Original Shared Link Apparently the poison was on wheat imported from China. Pretty darned scary! What are the chances that this wheat has been used in products for human consumption as well? Michelle
  10. That's sick. Pet food couldn't accidentally be contaminated with rat poison...I hope they find out who is responsible for this! Michelle
  11. Your original post is here: Open Original Shared Link It was under the DH heading. Michelle
  12. It could very well be seasonal. The snow is finally starting to melt here...and with it comes snow mold, to which I'm very allergic...so I'm just waiting for the allergic symptoms to hit with a vengance. Then after that is the birch tree pollen. Boy do I dread spring! I find Reactine (same as Zyrtec in the U.S.) does a good job of elminating or at least...
  13. I wonder that too. I've had progressively worse "acne" over the last few years. I never had problems with acne as a teenager or in my twenties. This "acne," though, is itchy and drives me nuts! My biopsy for DH came back negative, however...unforunately the dermatologist took the biopsy from the wrong spot (biopsied the lesion itself instead of the normal...
  14. Allergy testing is hit or miss for accuracy. Your best bet is to do a thorough elmination diet. Michelle

Have you considered contacting the company(s) about getting samples, or maybe coupons towards trying their products? That way you wouldn't be (too) out of pocket if a product isn't to your liking. Michelle
  16. My hair looks pretty goofy the next morning if I wash & dry it before going to bed. However, it only takes a minute at most to wet it, redry and put in hair product (my hair stands straight up if I dont' use product.) If I'm too lazy to fix it, then it's a ball cap day. I still prefer that to pulling it back into a headache-inducing ponytail. Michelle
  17. I wear my hair the way I like it. I tend to cut it short for a while, then grow it out really long, then cut it short again. Though I find long hair is a lot of work...and typically end up putting it up in a pony tail. Right now I've cut it very short and have been keeping it this way for a couple of years. I love the ease of caring for short hair and it...
  18. One certainly won't develop celiac if they never ingest gluten. That's the same with allergies...you cannot become allergic to something you aren't exposed to. I don't know about autoimmune conditions coming on suddenly, though. I think it's a gradual process that isn't noticed until symptoms are impossible to ignore or brush off as "normal." Michelle
  19. Happy Birthday! Religion is one of those hot button topics. Not everyone views it the same way or shares the same beliefs, so it can cause some unnecessarily heated discussion...and detract from the reason for this board. Michelle
  20. I'm neither Asian nor Jewish, though it's not unheard of in other populations as well. I actually was right on time for development as a child, and am very coordinated (was a dancer for 20 years, and a strong swimmer since I was two) and competitive in sports. There is a history of meniere's disease on my dad's side, so if I end up developing...

I wouldn't be trying that bread either. Kinnikinnick makes really good breads that are worth trying. Their english muffins are especially good, and I really like their pizza crusts. Michelle
  22. Milestone's is part of the Cara brand of restaurants. Others are Swiss Chalet, Kelsey's, Montantas and Harvey's. Swiss Chalet is good about gluten free too...they have a pamphlet that outlines all of their foods and ingredients for "allergic" customers. Let your server know and they'll further insure that the cooks/preps are careful not to cross-contaminate...
  23. My husband and I worked together for a few years, before we were married and for a little bit afterward. I was actually his boss for awhile. It really worked well for the most part, likely because we really enjoyed the job(s). For a long time he worked at home (telecommuting) and that also worked, but we had firm boundaries about interrupting him...and his...
  24. My understanding is that celiac is genetic, so perhaps she doesn't get the gene from her mother? Has your wife had genetic testing done? Otherwise, it seems that her trigger to activate celiac was when she was a baby...not surprising for a preemie...especially considering all infants are born with immature digestive tracts. Breastmilk, especially colostrum...
  25. I checked out your link on Addison's and the symptoms don't fit with what I have. The skin darkening doesn't follow with what I experience either. The list of symptoms I have fills a couple of pages. I've written it all down, and my doctor has a copy. From there I've seen a dermatologist (who incorrectly biopsied for DH...so the neg. result is really...
