  1. It's too bad that some have tunnel vision and insist that those who can manage CC extremely well are still being glutened. I know 100% that I am not being glutened at all by having a mixed kitchen because it's just my husband and myself and he's even better at CC than I am! He thought of things at first that I didn't but that could have been brain fog. ...
  2. jewles.....what may be happening is Celiacs have a tendency to have insufficient pancreatic function, which will make it very hard for you to completely digest meat. I know because I have this problem. I cannot eat lamb or large amounts of red meat because it just doesn't digest and I end throwing it back up hours later and feeling terrible for a few days...
  3. larry mac......I have posted information about this before and I felt I should add a few comments about dermal exposure. As you may know, Dr. Peter Green is one of the leading researchers and doctors on celiac disease. I recently read his book and it was extremely informative and I would highly recommend it. His information stated that even for people with...
  4. Although I agree that doing a gluten challenge may not be in the best interest of the patient, unless they NEED to see the damage to adhere to a gluten-free lifestyle, your comments are so overblown it's ridiculous. I was at the point where I was about a week away from a feeding tube when I was diagnosed and, lucky for me, my blood work was so high, the doctor...
  5. There are other reasons besides gluten that will cause elevated tTg levels......Hashimoto's thyroid and a few of the other autoimmune diseases that are associated with Celiac. That's not a very high elevation, more like low grade inflammation going on somewhere. I am not sure why you would be reacting to plain rice or chicken as they are not big on the allergen...

    ARCHIVED What Would You Do?

I think comparing celiac disease to cancer is not quite right.......cancer is many times worse than celiac disease and you will die pretty quickly from the cancer if untreated. It would take a long time for most people with celiac disease to get sick enough to die from it and they usually die from complications. That's why most people get a call from a doctor...
  7. My niece (sister's child) has all the symptoms of Celiac also and she has been told, firmly, mind you, that she does NOT have celiac disease....it's lupus. I think all of those clueless doctors have this idea that those type of symptoms point to individual autoimmune problems and when a patient tests negative for celiac disease, they discount it totally and...

    ARCHIVED What Would You Do?

Your response was hysterical! I know it'll be my turn to don the kevlar after saying that, but the truth is the truth, whether people like it or not. Connie.....I am sorry your husband's health declined during that 2 years and I know from experience myself, as I had some of the problems you mentioned in your post. However, if your hubby felt that...

    ARCHIVED Bloodshot Eyes

Sounds like you have allergies and are reacting to something in your environment. Allergies are very common in people with celiac disease/GS due to their overactive immune system. So you could say it's one of it's side effects but not a first degree cause. The other thing that may cause red eye is Sjogren's Syndrome, which is another autoimmune disease...
  10. It shouldn't take very long to get a blood result back so Nurse Attitude was probably correct. The doctor should do a full Celiac panel for accurate testing but if the tTg comes back elevated and the EMA is positive, then it's pretty conclusive, along with your dietary trial. However, there are always those that test negative and still have a problem with...
  11. Usually, the EMA test is either positive or negative, period......no numerical range. It is 100% specific to Celiac Disease so if it's positive, you definitely have celiac disease. You must be checked for IGA deficiency also, at the same time, because if you are IGA deficient, the test will be negative, even if you have celiac disease. As far as ranges...
  12. I wasn't aware that offering a point of view was discouraged on this forum. If the subject matter didn't suit you, then don't read the post.
  13. The only thing an enzyme pill will do is to help digest food more easily but a Celiac will still have the autoimmune reaction and resultant intestinal damage. It also never killed anyone to go without a meal until they get home and a person's health will not hit the skids because of it. The only Celiac that would choose to eat at Denny's or any other fast...
  14. What you are most likely reacting to are sulfites in the wine....that is very common and will give a person the symptoms you listed. Many people automatically think they are ingesting gluten when they react and this is not always the case. The Celiac websites that tell people wine is OK are pretty much correct. As I am a wine drinker, I visited a vineyard...
  15. The only problem with public awareness is that many, many people will still live in denial and will not even begin to entertain the idea of eating gluten-free. My whole family are like this and the majority of them all have celiac disease or GS yet they will not hear that they have it and will never go gluten-free. Most of them have several autoimmune diseases...
  16. Why would you get bashed for saying you support stem cell therapy? Most people that are against it do not have a clue as to how stem cells are obtained and base their opinions on nonsense information. My sister works in this field and most stem cells are generally obtained from the placenta, after a live birth. People can donate the placenta and I can't see...
  17. If you do a food elimination, the most important thing to remember is not to eliminate more than one food at a time. Process of elimination......if you avoid both dairy and soy together, it will be harder to tell which one is giving you grief. I did not eliminate either and I healed just fine. If you start with just gluten-free, which you should, and you...
  18. Let me see if I can't make myself clearer so that you do not feel that you are being attacked. No one, including myself, is attacking anyone so you need to become less sensitive. I was stating my opinion on SOLID, MEDICAL FACT but apparently, that is not something many Celiacs rely upon. I did not gleen my information from a quack posing as a doctor, I actually...
  19. Open Original Shared Link I am not sure if you are looking for a straight MD or not but this woman has Celiac herself and is very good at diagnosing. She is a Naturopathic doctor and I am not sure if she accepts insurance......might depend on what you have. Her office is located in southern NH, not far over the Mass. border. I have seen her talk at conferences...
  20. I think it a no-brainer that anything consumed at those restaurants would not be good for you, even without the nutritional information. Portion sizes are so big, it's ridiculous. Being diagnosed with celiac disease is actually a good thing as it prevents most people that follow the diet from even thinking of eating there. I don't know why there is all this...
  21. These symptoms are not so much associated with celiac disease as they are with other associated autoimmune diseases that develop as a result of a delayed diagnosis. Gums will recede and mouths and throats can be very dry as a result of Sjogren's Syndrome, which is ultra common with Celiac Disease. There is a blood test that can be done to check for the antibody...
  22. As I said in my original posting, it is all personal preference and comfort level. I have no problem if someone feels they are playing Russian Roulette and chooses not to use any gluten containing products. I do not look at things the same way and know I am at 0% risk of CC as I have done so successfully for the past 3 years. I also do not have any contact...
  23. The only problem with that is most pancake houses are wall to wall gluten. Do they use a dedicated griddle to cook the gluten-free ones on? I would tend to doubt it. I also wouldn't trust the knowledge level of anyone working in a pancake house, unless you are lucky enough to have either a gluten-free waitress or cook.
  24. According to the latest medical information on Celiac Disease and all the research I have done over the past 3 years, it is not necessary to use gluten-free personal care products unless you think you may ingest some into your stomach. This does not apply to anything that goes on your lips, for obvious reasons. Those need to be strictly gluten-free. The...
  25. As a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, I would have to say that the Wharf's ignorant manager/owner's remarks can be typical of the Islands. Not saying everyone is like that but Nantucket and the Vineyard are ultra wealthy and ultra snotty and rude at times. He seemed to go the extra mile with the remark about the plain lettuce salad. What a jerk!
