Your welcome! Always glad to help another Celiac find really good food. And you are correct, the R.I. dining out site is awesome. Al and his wife put so much time and effort into this.....I can't say enough good things about them!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
Gemini posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just wanted to post that my husband (who I am convinced has a gluten issue) tried Dragon's Gold gluten-free beer this past week-end and he said it was so good, I shouldn't buy it too often or he might have a beer problem! He had been buying Redbridge and, although it's drinkable, he wasn't crazy about it. I found it in a specialty liquor store that... -
ARCHIVED Boston's North End Now Has gluten-free Options!
Gemini replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Glad I was able to get you thinking about it. Not trying to step on anyone's toes but I have had restaurant waitstaff ask me if I was one of those "sensitive" Celiacs who can't tolerate any exposure to gluten, i.e. shared oil, etc. I always have to do my spiel about how there is no such thing as a sensitive Celiac. If you are diagnosed or figure out gluten... -
ARCHIVED Ok I Give! I Actually Do Need Help
Gemini replied to DeLina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Delina....you only have to be concerned with anything that goes on your lips.....for obvious reasons. As far as eye shadow or mascara, etc., unlss you think you'll be eating any, it's OK to use these products on your skin. Gluten has to get into your intestinal tract to cause a reaction and it only gets there by mouth. I would suggest reading Dr. Peter... -
ARCHIVED Boston's North End Now Has gluten-free Options!
Gemini replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It was awfully nice of you to post this as I have not been down Hanover St. since I was diagnosed. It's gonna be tough to pass Mike's Pastry Shop and not go in! Thank you for the head's up. I will have to try this place. I would like to mention, though, and I hope you are not offended but it is NEVER good to eat food from a shared fryer, ever. By... -
OK.....here is a link to the website for the Rhode Island dining group I belong to. They have an abundant listing of restaurants, bakeries, etc. that are in New England and cater to Celiacs. I have not been to all of them yet but the ones I have checked out were all very good. The August gathering is at an Indian restaurant and, after checking their on-line...

If you follow a strict gluten-free diet, your anxiety issues will most likely resolve. Having celiac disease really screws up both body and mind....I am a totally different person than I was pre-diagnosis. You may want to try just going gluten-free and if that doesn't do the trick within a set amount of time, then consider meds....but make sure they are gluten...

You've got to be kidding me!!!!!!! I was there also. I know it was a larger group and if you were not seated near me, we probably missed each other. Those gatherings are a lot of fun. Really nice people and the restaurants they pick are usually very good. I was going to post the link to their website later on today so everyone would get the list of places...

You know, after reading this, I think I have doctor envy! The nervous stomach issue may just be the unhealed gut reaction. My stomach was nauseous and felt like butterflies for awhile, even after going gluten-free. It took a little while to resolve, about 6 months, but it was all due to Celiac. I am not one to take an anti-anything med so decided...

I will get my list together and post. The gluten-free dining group I belong to is out of R.I. so many places are northern R.I. and southern Mass. As a matter of fact, the next month's gathering is for gluten-free Indian, just outside of Pawtucket, R.I. I was very surprised at how many places offer up a gluten-free menu....they realize it's an untapped market...

ARCHIVED How Do I Stop Anorexia Comments
Gemini replied to nikky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nikky...I am 5'4" and weigh 113 pounds and that's after healing! I got down to 98 pounds when I hit the wall with celiac disease and I am SURE many thought I was anorexic. But you know what? I don't give a hoot what other people think. They are just jealous that I can eat more than most people and not gain weight like they do. It also has much to do with... -

I totally understand what you are saying about the training aspect but I was miffed that it was such an underwhelming experience, especially when many people rave about the place. I have found that most of the chains just do not impress me but at least they know what gluten is. I have also had bad experiences at Outback's and don't bother with them anymore...

I just realized that you will be going to the one in Natick...that's where I ate. We apparently live near to each other. You can give it a try but I won't be eating there again. If you want a listing of some of the other places I go to, let me know. There are many places in Mass. and R.I. that are awesome!

I recently went to P.F. Chang's and, quite frankly, am surprised that so many think their food good. It's just OK but I am also a member of a dining club that goes to very high end restaurants so maybe that's why I was underwhelmed with Chang's. The higher end places do much better with getting a meal right, including CC, because the chef's will have gone...

I would be very interested in hearing what you think of Dr. Green, after your appointment. I just finished reading his book on Celiac Disease and have to admit it was very impressive. He dispels many of the myths that are rampant with people regarding Celiac Disease, one of which is about DH and how people think it can be caused by touching gluten. There...

ARCHIVED Trouble With Perscription Drugs
Gemini replied to Karenay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Levoxyl, which is the generic form of Synthroid, is gluten-free. I would guess Synthroid is also. I have no problems with Levoxyl at all so I don't think your problems are gluten related. The lady that suggested that you test your adrenals gave good advice as the thyroid and adrenals work in unison to create balance. If your adrenals are messed up, your thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Do I *really* Have To Get A New Toaster?
Gemini replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is good, realistic advice. As long as the toaster is not extremely old and can be cleaned thoroughly, it should be enough to prevent gluten exposure. Most people would know after a bit if they were exposed or it would show in their bloodwork, when re-tested. It really all depends on comfort level but common sense should reign. I have had the same experience... -
You have classic, testbook low thyroid symptoms and yes, both adrenal and thyroid problems are very common to Celiac. I have Hashimoto's thyroid and mild adrenal insufficiencies but have them under control. It's very important for you to find a good doctor who really knows how to manage your endocrine system. One who will also go by your symptoms as part...

ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Test Results
Gemini replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Di_gfree.......I can tell you of my experience and clear up some of the misconceptions that abound with the use of thyroid meds. I went hypo long before I discovered the celiac disease. My thyroid was out of control and I began taking Armour. Probably a good medication for those with less severe forms of the disease or for those that do not have Hashi... -
Laura.....a sore tongue is a HUGE symptom of Celiac and it can be caused by Sjogren's also. I know because I had a sore tongue for years, to the point where I had trouble talking and eating. No one knew what the problem was but when I was diagnosed with celiac disease and went gluten free, it went away, never to return. It took a little while though. Could...
