  1. Sounds like you have a corn problem, as kareng stated. Corn protein can give some people grief but it's because they are allergic or intolerant of corn. Many poeple have a corn problem without having a wheat problem. You can certainly choose to believe what you want but either way, you should not eat corn. And, yes, it is in everything so you'll have to...
  2. How could you not think them safe when you eat them all the time? Welcome to Ghiraddiction.......
  3. Yes, it is strange they have 2 allergy statements. I still trust them as a company for the simple reason I have never gotten sick from their chocolates that I researched to be safe. Namely, those devilishly good little squares. If there was even trace gluten in them, from the amount I ingest on a monthly basis, I would be sick again. I do not eat the white...
  4. Open Original Shared Link Here is the allergy information from Ghirardelli. Not everything is made in the same facility, from what I can gather. The only product listed that has any reference to wheat are the classic white chips. Everything else does not, even the cocoa powder, according to their website. I am not aware of a Ghirardelli crispy rice...
  5. I'm still alive....maybe a few pounds heavier today but alive and WELL! Ghirardelli chocolates are safe, Wintersong. I promise I would not lie to you. I eat WAYYYYYYYYYY too many of these on a yearly basis for them not to be. I really am quite sensitive yet ingest too many of these and am perfectly fine. No hints of tummy distress ever. They are...
  6. Please remind me of the thyroid med you are using? If you have Hashi's, you really need to be supplementing with T3 and not just use a T4 only med. My T3 was low until I switched to Nature-throid, which has both thyroid hormones. Many docs are resistant to using natural thyroid meds. If you use a T3 added hormone, it should help drive your antibodies down...
  7. Actually., the blood tests for Celiac are not notoriously unreliable but they tend to only pick up damage once it has advanced to a more severe stage. Couple that with the fact that people may be IgA deficient so autoimmune testing may not work for everyone. The biopsy is only as reliable as the doctor performing it and the amount of damage present. As the...
  8. Chiropractors are doctors who go to school almost as long as an internist. They just are specilaized in muscle and bone. I have one who is a Godsend and has helped me out of a jam many times. He is also pretty well versed in nutrition but the difference is that he does not push any supplements on me. He does sell some but never acts as a salesman when I...
  9. Too many docs, although well meaning, don't run the full thyroid panel and just doing a TSH isn't enough to monitor Hashi's. I know it's tough when you can't get full co-operation from the AMA. I did the doctor dance years ago and nothing has really changed. Would they be willing to run a full thyroid panel if you asked them? How long has it been since...
  10. I think if Stephanie's son has been responding, over time, to the gluten free diet, then cc will not be the issue, unless there have been drastic changes to his diet with foods that are on the fence with regards to safety. It is very easy to find gluten-free processed foods that are completely safe for 99.9% of all Celiacs out there. When someone is...
  11. Stephanie......is the doctor testing his thyroid antibodies or just the TSH and T3/T4? It would be good to know his antibody levels because if they are still elevated, then that could be keeping his tTg higher. My thyroid antibodies were 1200 at time of diagnosis of Celiac and it took 7 years to get those back down into the normal range.....which is 4...
  12. If you really want to take supplements, and some of us have to, then buy a Celiac multi. There are companies that cater exclusively to Celiac Disease and their supplements are very safe. I am particularly sensitive and source my supplements from those who state they are formulated to exclude gluten. You are also taking quite a lot of them so if you aren't...
  13. Has his thyroid antibodies come back down to normal? If not, that may be driving his tTg slightly upwards and it may not be from gluten at all. It took a longer time for my tTg to normalize into the low normal range, where it should be, because of my Hashi's. It was not in the positive range but stubbornly stayed in the higher end of normal and that's...
  14. A closer pronunciation is....."Wistah"! I actually live a few towns east of Worcester, nearer to Framingham. But there is Boynton's in Worcester...which has the BEST gluten-free pizza in the state. At least, from the ones I have tried!
  15. Yes, it is!
  16. Both symptoms (vertigo and migraines) are very common with undiagnosed Celiac Disease. I had horrible vertigo that completely resolved after being on the gluten-free diet for awhile. Chest pain can come from the gut, such as acid reflux problems...again, Celiac related. I am so sorry your son is going through this at such a young age.....medical testing...
  17. This guy is definitely a keeper! I have one like this myself but he is gluten-free with me....and ONLY because we discovered he may actually have a problem with gluten himself. Otherwise, I would do the same thing as Colleen. We should clone 'em and sell 'em.....think of the money to be made!
  18. I am not actually in Cambridge but live about 30 miles west of the city. Like I said, they have great restaurants there and I do sometimes make the trek into the People's Republic..for some good gluten-free viddles. I did not know Stephen King was in Boston but he doesn't live very far away anyway. I have not read everything he has done because I don...
  19. Well........I consider myself an independent, liberal leaning conservative, if that makes any sense. I do tend to support ideals from BOTH sides of the aisle, which I think is more the norm today for many people. That's the Gemini twin in me. It's the polarizing extremes that are such a problem today...on both sides. Let's face it...we need to fire everyone...
  20. I was wondering how long it would take to spark a reply out of you on that one, Irishheart! And this will prove that you can take a Massachusetts Democrat and an Independent Conservative and they can become fast friends. I would never survive in this state if I let politics choose my friends. I figure if I can live here and survive, I can live anywhere...
  21. The more you reveal about yourself, tonalynn, the funnier it gets! I am also EXTREMELY intolerant of heat and have been since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Going through menopause only made that worse but the hot flashes are not quite as bad as they were when I was first diagnosed over 8 years ago. But for me, the perfect temperature range is 55-6...
  22. You have to learn as much as you can about thyroid disease when you have it because you could get seriously messed up from many docs over it. Some of their ideas will keep a person sick. Drives me crazy. I have my free T3/T4 and reverse T3 tested. I should have been more specific. She forgot the TSH this time, which really isn't a show stopper but I...
  23. Thanks, Nicole, for chiming in with your expertise! You are one smart cookie!
  24. Tonalynn........don't think I don't understand the bread thing and all your feelings of loss because I do. The transition was easy for me, though, because I was down to 94 pounds and dying so that helped to change my attitude real quick. I honestly thought I was not going to make it the week I hit the wall with this disease. You have not gotten there.....
  25. Oh, man.........toaster tossing as an Olympic sport! Why didn't I think of that? They should at least include this activity at Celiac gatherings, for the newly diagnosed.
