  1. DHEA is the hormone that all other hormones are derived from. It's the mother ship of hormones. Everyone has normal ranges for their age group and they do decline somewhat with age. I take 5 mg. of DHEA daily as mine was out of range low for my age. It's really important to be tested regularly for hormone levels when supplementing. I would imagine that...
  2. Ha....I'll see you in line!
  3. You are brilliant, barty! I always wondered the same thing myself. Went gluten-free in a nano-second after diagnosis and never looked back. Never craved any gluten at all. But quitting ciggies? OMG...it was like trying to stop heroin. I still miss it. There is nothing to replace it with that is as enjoyable. Well...I like red wine but I have Sjogren...
  4. Welcome to our world! I told my first and last GI specialist years ago that I only got sick after eating and could I have a problem with certain foods and he shook his head and said no. After doing some testing that was the norm for 25 years ago, he commented on how"good" my gut looked. They did not do endo's then as routine testing. He then proceeded...
  5. They smoke for the same reasons that people drink to excess and when alcohol is coming out of your pores after a heavy session, it's disgusting. You can add to that all the people who overeat and become obese. I think having someone spill over into your seat on an airplane is inexcusable. Not to mention being forced to smell all that horrible fast food...
  6. I can truly understand your anger at no mention of Celiac Disease. I recently watched a lecture on PBS by Dr. David Perlmutter, who is a respected neurologist and nutritionist. He is hell bent on helping those with neuro issues overcome their problems and he firmly believes that gluten is at the root of many of his patients problems and uses the gluten...
  7. As long as you are eating a gluten filled diet, if you have Celiac, that should be enough to, hopefully, find any damage. Remember that damage can be patchy and you could have Celiac and end up with a negative biopsy. In that case, a dietary trial would be in order. Good luck!
  8. These 2 sentences are not true. This is extremely old school. Doctors that insist on only giving a diagnosis via biopsy are either looking to make money off of the procedure or have liability concerns, which make them do expensive, invasive procedures to protect themselves. If your blood work results were borderline positive, then it might be helpful...
  9. That's what happens when you are no longer a gluten head........the zingy comebacks just flow!
  10. paints...your situation sounds like mine. I totally get the distrust of doctors and the ignorance on treatment of thyroid issues. I also had adrenal problems but you know what? Many people do and it usually is cortisol related. That should not keep you from mananging your thyroid, though. My TPO was 1200 at one point but not anymore. A good T3/T4 combo...

    ARCHIVED Feeling Down

tryme......your antibody levels may have come down, after all. I hate that they don't give people a definitive number on the tTg because >200 could mean your antibodies where 500....you don't know. You only know that it was greater than 200. If they were 500 and came down to 300, then it would still register at >200....see what I mean? That was...
  12. Oh, yeah? Wait until it's hurricane season and then we'll talk.......
  13. Oh....I like your attitude! Ha, Ha!
  14. I never fail to say something when I see a post about dumping a thyroid med when you may need one. It is not my intention to annoy or aggravate people BUT that post alarmed me. I have been managing thyroid disease for over 20 years and know what can happen when things go out of whack. It could put someone in the hospital. Taking too much can also annihilate...
  15. Gemini's Wintah Pet Peeves...... 1) What the hell is a Polar Vortex? Really? It's called an Arctic Front and has for years until the weather wimps that pass as forecasters renamed it to sound more dramatic. This is not some weather Black Hole we are going to be sucked into so please.......lets drop the drama. 2) When it snows out, put some snow...
  16. avivai.......it all depends on the person but from my experience with both Celiac and Hashi's, it does make a difference with antibody levels after being gluten-free for awhile....especially the TPO. Going gluten-free calms down all that inflammation, which in turn will stop or downgrade the autoimmune attack on your thyroid. I have had thyroid disease...
  17. I have read the answers from everyone and was somewhat taken aback that no one remarked on the above paragraph. I also have Hashi's and have been on thyroid hormone for over 20 years. The Celiac diagnosis came 9 years ago. I have one question.......why would you take it upon yourself to stop taking thyroid hormone all on your own when you have thyroid...
  18. I have never considered Fibro to be an autoimmune disease. I still think it is not a disease state unto itself but the result of ongoing inflammation in the body. There is an underlying problem that is causing it and doctors tend to symptom treat because they do not understand the inflammation process well. Yes, you read that correctly.....they really...
  19. Angie...........here's the connection between Celiac and Fibro.........Fibro is not a diagnosis. It's like IBS. The underlying cause is Celiac and all the inflammation it causes in your body. It affects your muscles and nerves. Once you have been gluten free for awhile, it should calm down and improve. Doctors only know how to symptom treat these issues...
  20. I think when people react to coffee, it's most likely from the fact that coffee is very acidic and can bother people without Celiac Disease. Caffeine is also an issue for many and can make a normal gut feel really bad. I cannot drink coffee on an empty stomach but if I drink it with food, not a problem. I also buy whole beans only and grind them at home...
  21. Your last paragraph says it all......if you got sick when you introduced barley and then improved on the gluten-free diet, then clearly you have Celiac. You would also improve, allergy wise, on the gluten-free diet because that completely erradicates wheat from your diet also.....but you would still get sick, as a Celiac, from barley if you were just wheat...
  22. I think there are too many people overthinking everything about a disease which already is well established as far as causes, treatment and recovery. From what I have seen and read, all of the cross reactivity stuff is coming from the off the wall section of the so called medical establishment and most of them have been chiropractors or others who have not...
  23. As Kareng stated, there is no scientific evidence that cross reactivity exists and when you really read into the theory behind it, it sounds like something a crack pot doc made up to make more money off of sick people resorting to desperate measures to become well again. The reason that some people do not heal or improve on the gluten-free diet is because...
  24. They really should have an award for this, don't ya think? A happy moment in recovery that you can only share with another Celiac!
  25. I'm telling you, I got sick as a dog one visit to the dentist but they did many impressions with that goopy goo for a dental implant. It was like eating liquidy Playdoe and good luck not swallowing any! That stuff is made mostly from gums so now they have to get it right the first time. As long as I don't require multiple impressions, I do fine. I...
