ARCHIVED Celiac And Pain Meds
Gemini replied to VASpider's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Brand name Vicodin is gluten free. I think the generics are also but I always ask for brand name because I know it is. I have had tons of dental work and am extremely sensitive to minute amounts of gluten and this works well for me. I am also a light weight who will get stomach upset from most pain killers but this one works great on pain and does not... -
jennifer........I read your post on the SS section of the forum and have to make a few comments about what was posted there. It also could apply here. Were you officially diagnosed with DH? Did you have a skin biopsy? Because...and yes, I am going to make this point.....DH is not caused in any way by touching something which contains gluten. You do...

ARCHIVED Hot Flashes When Eating
Gemini replied to Yellow Rose's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am also post menopausal by 10 years and started having hot flashes at age 38. I am 55 in a couple of months. I have always had hot flashes when I eat. I call it the food burn. 17 years of hot flashes is long enough! I never have done anything for them as this was the same experience my mother had. I am still waiting for them to stop...... -
ARCHIVED Ballpark Update 2014
Gemini replied to GottaSki's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So, what do they charge for the gluten free stuff? I have to say I never go to ball games, ever. Not interested, although I do root for my home team, always. I just don't have the patience to sit through a game...any game......and I would never buy anything to eat there because of the price. I heard for a hot dog and beer at Fenway they charge over $... -
ARCHIVED Being Pressured Into Eating Gluten/ Gluten Addiction?
Gemini replied to raisinflames's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think Cathy deserves an award for best attitude towards her new gluten free life! This is the wisdom that comes with age, folks. I am only 5 years younger than Cathy but she is right.......60 is definitely on the young side today. Maybe because some of us get so seriously ill from gluten ingestion that we accept things more readily than others but Cathy... -
Clobetasol Propionate Cream, Usp, 0.05%
Gemini replied to 124chicksinger's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Nope.......I wouldn't use it either but I rarely use any Rx meds unless it really is necessary. You know what? Eczema is associated with celiac and so are many other skin rash problems. When your gut is a mess, the badness comes out your pores. I had skin problems for years and it all went away after I went gluten-free for a little bit and I used nothing... -
ARCHIVED Still Not Taken Seriously?
Gemini replied to Tryingcake101's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
They must not have been paying attention while in class. Around here, we have graduates from the CIA and Johnson & Wales school in Rhode Island and they both have courses in gluten-free cooking. I believe that Johnson & Wales actually has a course of study for Celiac's so they can do the pastry/bread portion without being cc'd. They are taking... -
The rotisserie chickens at the Whole Foods I go to are perfectly safe to eat but I always get the plain, unsalted ones. I am extremely sensitive and have never gotten sick or even remotely so from their chicken. I also eat from their salad bar but only if I get there early enough that others haven't messed the whole thing up and cc'd everything. The hot...

ARCHIVED Learning To Live Gluten Free
Gemini replied to CathyO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You'll learn to do this well, Cathy, because you have a supportive husband. You also will discover who your true friends are when it comes to social, eating engagements. Never let anyone else dictate to you or manipulate you by becoming angry over your food needs. Put them on the spot, nicely, by asking them why they are so angry over your medically necessary... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzymes
Gemini replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!!! I use them also Arlene, for the harder to digest food and they do indeed work like a charm. A Celiac's best friend..... I think your food bill is about to go up...... -
ARCHIVED Still Not Taken Seriously?
Gemini replied to Tryingcake101's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think instead of wondering what you should order, more attention should be paid to the type of restaurant you eat out in. I have never been glutened by a salad in 9 years gluten-free but I eat at restaurants that are much higher end places, where the chef has been to culinary school and had an education in cc and everything that goes along with it. I... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
Gemini replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
Why would it help anyone to say they are "super sensitive" when the situations that the poster described as causing a gluten reaction could not possibly cause a gluten reaction because gluten was not ingested? The post does, however, prove useful for many as it shows what does not cause a reaction and what not to be concerned with. We all know newbies should... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
Gemini replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
This post begs for a reply....... Mimsy.......you just cannot be glutened by walking down the bread aisle at the grocery store. You can, however, have a psychosomatic response to being around food that you have an intolerance to as the sense of smell is very powerful. I am a very sensitive, diagnosed Celiac and if I get around hot pizza or walk down... -

Read all about the brand new medical specialty Certified Gluten Practitioner! How exciting! I mean, isn't that what we do on Celiac.com.....for free?????????? Dr. Tom... -
ARCHIVED New W/ Unexplained Symptoms....burping...questions?
Gemini replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Low stomach acid can cause excessive burping. But you also carry one of the main Celiac genes and a negative antibody test for Celiac does not rule the disease out. Having a negative biopsy does not rule the disease out, either. Damage can be very spotty and easily missed when doing the biopsy. Was a full Celiac panel done? -
ARCHIVED Ideas For gluten-free Airport Food For A Celiac Child?
Gemini replied to snowmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With a Celiac, Type 1 diabetic child, why would you rely on the airport to hopefully provide gluten-free snacks and not bring your own? Airports are getting a little bit better about it, depending on where you live, but I always bring my own snacks to eat and it's always better than what most people have or can get. I hope that the folks with little kids... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Negative Biopsy- Now What?
Gemini replied to JRPradio09's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is when you have to ignore the doctor and maybe just go gluten-free on your own for the rest of your life. Here's what's wrong with what they did to you...... 1.) They did only one measly biopsy, which is a joke. Damage can be so spotty, especially in a younger person, that doing only 1 is almost a waste of time. Did you receive the biopsy report... -
ARCHIVED Pediatric Tsh Values
Gemini replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your son has undiagnosed celiac, then even if his thyroid is low he may not gain any weight. I have Celiac and Hashi's. I was diagnosed with Hashi's many years before the celiac and I weighed 94 pounds at diagnosis for Celiac. I am still thin, although is now have some meat on my bones but gaining weight is still not easy for me. People are always... -

ARCHIVED Heavy Metals Testing - How To Do It Right?
Gemini replied to Seeking2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All of your symptoms you listed are symptoms of Celiac Disease and the fact that you have a sibling diagnosed with it makes the odds that you have it quite high, especially with the symptoms you describe. Celiac is autoimmune, has a genetic predisposition and you have to be eating gluten to develop the disease. Seeing as most people eat gluten today and... -
ARCHIVED Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You are very thorough in your research, positive thinking! I usually read anatomy related books that explain the function of organs to find the information I am looking for. When it became obvious that I was not absorbing fats, I looked into the possible causes and from what I have read, your pancreas may become atrophied because your small intestine... -

I hear ya on that one, Arlene! I was 94 at diagnosis 9 years ago and now am 110 or 112....on a fat day. I do weight training so that will account for some of the calorie burn but gain a lot of weight after diagnosis? Not for some of us. There are other factors at play also but I have to work it to gain. Not so crazy about gaining anymore as I am sick...
