  1. Well.......I still consider all chocolate in the candy category BUT I agree it is essential to life. No argument there........Ha, Ha!
  2. Rashes usually occur from a skin allergy to an ingredient in the product.....it is not a celiac reaction, unless you drink dish soap that contains gluten.
  3. Smoking materials, as far as I have learned, are not a worry. I would imagine that any glues used in rolling papers are no more of a concern than the glue used on envelopes. Never heard of anyone who smoked cigarettes, cigars or anything else being glutened.
  4. If your DGP testing was positive, you have a diagnosis. You just were lucky enough to find out before the major intestinal damage set in enough for them to find it. Looking at your signature line, you have all the symptoms of true Celiac Disease. I don't think these diseases just tag along. I think when someone has undiagnosed celiac and years of inflammation...
  5. In what universe is chocolate not candy? Or is this one of those, I call it tonic and you call it soda?
  6. Renaye.....telling someone they have "sicca" for a diagnosis is like telling a Celiac they have IBS. It's not a diagnosis. If your eyes and mouth are that dry, then you most likely have Sjogren's. You can test negative on the SJogren's antibodies even though you have the disease. Have you tried Restasis eye drops? For many people, including myself, these...
  7. I love Sangiovese....but then again, I have never met a red wine I did not like!
  8. Personally, I would get up and walk out of any restaurant that was rude or made huge mistakes before I even got the meal. It's akin to seeing an idiot doctor who says stupid things about Celiac Disease. Not everyone is going to do a stellar job at this so in those cases, Elvis needs to leave the building!
  9. Ohhhhhhh....I love Peeps. There should be no reason why I should because they are sugar rocket fuel BUT I just love biting their little heads off! I will have to find these but I can't eat them until Easter......I gave up all candy for Lent. I am in semi withdrawal from the Ghirardelli squares.
  10. A little bit of aromatherapy while doing dishes, Laura?
  11. Wines are inherently gluten free and I have never seen one labeled as such because you don't have to label a naturally gluten free product. Most people, if they react, are not healed yet or are reacting to something else, like sulfites. I drink red wine often and am very sensitive......never had a problem. I have no issue with sulfites, either. I could...
  12. Unless you plan on kissing your goldfish, I wouldn't worry about their food!
  13. DGP is a newer test so maybe many docs aren't up to snuff on it? It's a wonder anyone is diagnosed, with all the confusion surrounding testing and general knowledge of Celiac! Geez.......
  14. Thank you, Irishheart, for chiming in with your wisdom. I have been in contact with Celiacandme via PM and I needed all the experts weighing in on this one. I am aghast that any Rheumy would say this to someone. I am also going to contact my niece about taking Plaquenil because she is on it for lupus. Celiacandme also complained about recurring diarrhea...
  15. Hitting the lows makes you appreciate the highs even more. So glad your life is coming together in a more positive way!
  16. Actually ,the biopsy is not definitive. You could still have a negative biopsy, with positive bloodwork. It all depends if there is enough damage to your small intestine yet for them to find. If you have a complete Celiac panel done and the tTg plus the EMA are positive, then you have a diagnosis for Celiac. tTg can be elevated for other reasons besides...
  17. Just because a restaurant has no gluten free menu, does not mean they cannot accommodate you. Many can and will do just that. I don't know where you all live but my experience has been the total opposite, especially with high end restaurants.....and they manage to get it right all of the time. The only places I have had less than stellar experiences with...
  18. Back up the truck, my dear! Corn is not a problem for Celiac's, unless you have an allergy or intolerance to it. We only have to be careful of wheat, barley and rye, plus oats for some. Some brands of nachos may contain wheat or the restaurant could have made them from scratch and cooked them in a non-dedicated fryer.......and that's why you are sick. ...
  19. Unless you are eating dish soap or have an active allergy to a listed ingredient in the soap, it should pose no problem. Dishes are generally rinsed well after washing anyway so what you use on your dishes is not a concern. I have never screened soap for gluten, am extremely sensitive and have never had a problem in 9 years gluten-free. One less thing...
  20. I personally do not think that low carb diets are that good for people. Healthy carbs have their place and most people feel better eating them. I'll have to google this and take a look myself.........after that cake pop!
  21. Where did you read that eating a low carb diet could drive down your T3? I would be interested in hearing more and if it's true, time for a cake pop! Congratulations on feeling better.........glad you figured things out. I would not worry a bit about a few rogue villi.......no one has the perfect insides and it most likely will not keep you from leading...
  22. You did nothing wrong. You have the same problem I did 25 years ago.........too many jerky docs who aren't helping you. You do not need any reason to switch doctors, other than trying to find the best person to help you with a diagnosis of for help with on going problems. Doctors are there to help and if they aren't, then you fire them and move on. I am...
  23. No, it's not crazy, it's inflammation! Everyone's body has its own favorite place for inflammation to strike. With me, my eyes because I have Sjogren's Syndrome so it doesn't take much before the eyes get messed up. Spring allergy season is not my favorite time of year! Even on the rare occasion when I take a gluten hit, my eyes become inflammed.
  24. captain jack.........if your GP thinks you are a hypochondriac, then you're a shoo-in for Celiac Disease!
  25. Make sure you get that guest bedroom set up or have a good B & B in town for guests to stay at because Croatia would be very doable as a vacation choice if I knew where the good gluten-free food was!
