ARCHIVED This Is Down To Being Glutened Isn't Is?
Gemini replied to Birdsong's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
An even better, more natural supplement to use for UTI's are cranberry juice or cranberry capsules, which is cranberries in pill form. They can be bought at any health food store. It is just the concentrated form of cranberries, which is a well known inhibitor of UTI's. I don't like cranberry juice...its way too sweet/sour for me. But I used these supplements... -
ARCHIVED Stopping In To Say Hello!
Gemini replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was wondering what happened to you! How exciting it is to start a new chapter in your life. Good luck with the move and we look forward to hearing from you again. Your food input is sorely missed! It's good to know that our Julia Child of c.com is comin' back! -
This statement is not true. Risk factors go down to that of the general population once a person follows a strict gluten-free diet for 5 years. Celiacs also do not die earlier due to these risk factors. I have many undiagnosed through choice people in my family and they all live to be quite old. There are many undiagnosed for life people out there and...

ARCHIVED New Here And Struggling
Gemini replied to Celiacandme's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, Celiac Disease can be the cause of an elevated ANA. That test is not very specific for any one AI disease but a test for general inflammation. It just confirms that you have inflammation in your body. Do not be alarmed if your antibody testing comes back still elevated a bit. It can take a year or longer for things to normalize. If the numbers...- 17 replies

ARCHIVED Going To Paris - Need Your Best Tips
Gemini replied to Nikki2777's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Nikki....I cannot help you very much as I have never been to France BUT I thought you should see this.......Open Original Shared Link It almost seems worth the price of a plane ticket alone. Maybe you can find those eclairs there. If you do, please let us know what it was like. I hope you have a great time! -
Rice Is Making Us Sick!
Gemini replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since plain rice is a naturally gluten free food, there is no need to sound the siren and no, rice is not as troublesome as oats. There might be cause for concern if you buy rice from a company that also does a lot of rice mixes that also contain a wheat component, but then you could check their policy on keeping food separate during manufacturing. Some... -
ARCHIVED Problems Feeling Full After Going gluten-free?
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
tonalynn....you do not have to defend your medical choices to me. I have used alternative medicine myself in the past and still do as they can be viable choices in dealing with different medical conditions.....sometimes better than what standard medicine has to offer. The point I was trying to make is that you had a gall bladder attack that incapacitated... -
ARCHIVED Evol Products
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are these products spicy? I was tempted to try them but spicy does not agree with me. It seems many of the gluten-free dinners/frozen products spice them up for taste and I do not like spicy. I mean hot spicy....not spice spicy. -
ARCHIVED Vaccinations?
Gemini replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yup...I swear I recover faster when on the rare occasion I do get sick because our immune systems are on higher alert than many others without Celiac. It's good to give it something real to attack once in a while...... -

Do your mean gall stones or kidney stones? -
ARCHIVED Kind Nut Products
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bring my own food everywhere I go and never have a non-Celiac make anything for me, either. I think that's what most people do who take this diet seriously....unless they are well trained by their Celiac friend. Most people are not food savvy enough to do that though, because they do not understand cc. However, as sensitive as I and many others I know... -
ARCHIVED Problems Feeling Full After Going gluten-free?
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The reason you do not feel full is because you no longer are bloating up after eating wheat filled bread and gluten filled foods. It's that simple. I used to eat very little when I went out to eat, pre-diagnosis, because I would eat a piece of bread from the bread basket and then by the time the meal came, I would be bloated and feel full from the damn... -
ARCHIVED 5 Years Gluten Free. Still Am Suffering. What Could It Be?
Gemini replied to Pat Tato's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What no one has mentioned yet is that you may have another underlying condition, one of which is microscopic colitis, which is very common with Celiac Disease. I know pople with this condition. Your large intestine becomes inflammed, on a microscopic level, but only a doctor can diagnose this. It causes unrelenting diarrhea, which you are having a problem... -
ARCHIVED Kind Nut Products
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So if you are adamant about never eating anything from a shared facility, no matter how good their practices are, I take it you never eat in a restaurant of any kind, never eat in anyone else's home even if you bring your own food because, after all, something might be floating in the gluten eaters abode that could land on your food, and do not eat in a work... -
ARCHIVED The Ignorance Hurts My Brain!
Gemini replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think Celiac Disease causes polyps in the colon.....it is a disease of the small intestine. You know, I follow a strict gluten-free diet and never cheat. I am a diagnosed Celiac. Yet....my family are loaded with people who are symptomatic and refuse to be tested. My mother is one and she will never, ever go gluten-free. At 81, she certainly... -
ARCHIVED Vaccinations?
Gemini replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually, Celiac's have an over active immune system and the whole point of the gluten-free diet is to calm that down. I think it an advantage when you are sick because your immune system may over respond to invaders and, hopefully, kill off the virus sooner. On the rare occasion when I do get a cold, it seems to last only about 3 days. I got all my vaccinations... -
ARCHIVED Labcorp Stool Test Results And Questions
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pancreatic insufficiency is most definitely associated with Celiac. Your small intestine sends out messages to your pancreas, calling for digestive enzyme when needed to break down food. When your small intestine becomes damaged and villi flatten or are destroyed, it can no longer send for the help it needs to break down your food. This can reverse when... -
ARCHIVED 1St Gallstone Attack Since Going gluten-free
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As far as I know, there is nothing in supplement world that will dissolve gallstones. If you already had them prior to going gluten-free, then they will still be there after going gluten-free. The diet may help to keep you from forming new stones but that's about it. If they keep giving you grief, you should see a doctor. -
ARCHIVED Bad Doctor?
Gemini replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Stop it, Addy.....I can't eat lunch I am laughing so hard! You need your own comedy show! -
ARCHIVED More Of A Rant About Uninformed People
Gemini replied to moosemalibu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's annoying when you try and rebutt to postings made by the food ignorant. You did a good job with your replies but Barty gave you added ammunition to shut this person up....although I am sure they may provide kooky links to unreputable sources, that many people believe. The "soy is poison" topic is really getting old. If what she posted were true, I... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Unable To Explain, Please Help
Gemini replied to dartmania2002's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be helpful to know if the elevated test was the tTg or the DGP? I asked that question in my post previously and the answer makes a big difference as to what may be going on. Again, if the doctor has not run the DGP and only the tTg, that is no indicator of dietary compliance. Rashes are caused by many things and it could be from a contact allergy... -
They won't put it all together. They are symptom treating you. All of your symptoms and medical woes are from inflammation. I think I've said that about 10 times. Don't worry about your blood work because it's perfectly normal to have elevated numbers with Celiac Disease or multiple autoimmune issues. It means your immune system is overactive. I have...

Lori.......you may want to read this article on Sjogren's Syndrome, particularly #5. I also have Sjogren's but do not have the more rare symptoms. You might want to have a blood draw and have your doctor test you for this because some of the symptoms match your complaints. I am not sure if dry eye/mouth is one of your problems but as Sjogren's appears...

ARCHIVED Kind Nut Products
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You munch on Kind granola at work and then make the statement that you are too sensitive to eat anything from a shared facility? Kareng is correct, a little sense needs to be used here. Kind bars are one of the safest foods out there for Celiacs. They do an outstanding job of making sure their food is safe and are a trusted go-to snack for many Celiacs... -
