  1. Yes,I read the complete process they use in winter when planting cover crops. Unless I am missing something here, they incorporate the cover crop into the soil in preparation for planting the rice in spring. So.....and I may be wrong......I think saying you can have a reaction from rice that used oats as a cover crop is a pretty big stretch. In all the ...
  2. Why is it that people go to these phenomenal restaurants and then have a cow when there is no bread? REALLY? You can get bread anywhere and I never, even before diagnosis, thought the bread basket important. In fact, I never ate much from it because it wasted precious gut space that could be saved for the real food I went there for. I just thought...
  3. Best idea EVER....... Open Original Shared Link
  4. Maybe they are unsure of what is covered now that our health system is being tampered with? I have had 3 of these things myself and never had problem with coverage. I think if you have an underlying condition that can damage your bone density, coverage is different than for those with normal bone density. You have to ask your insurer....good luck!
  5. Are you in Massachusetts near to Essex? If you are, then go ahead and freak out because this is the place to go for Celiac's..... Open Original Shared Link You can get gluten-free onion rings, which rock by the way, but only if they are not busy. It takes some extra time to do them and this place packs them in at peak season. I try and go off times...
  6. Thank you, Kristina, for posting this. I live in Mass. and always look for places to go so thank you for letting us know that the Clam Box is not safe for Celiac's. Too bad but I completely understand what goes into having a separate fryer. This place is another institution but for gluten eaters only! It actually looks like a clam box too....google it...
  7. Actually...you only think you feel good. Wait until you go gluten-free and then the anemia goes away and you'll begin to realize you were not well......really! I was like you....thought I was not bad but I was very, very sick. It happens so slowly over time that you don't notice how bad it really is. Until the day I went into a restaurant for dinner and...
  8. As far as I know, duck is gluten free, depending on how they are served up!
  9. For anyone doubting Lundberg's quality control and growing/harvesting/storage procedures, refer to their Farming Practices page and their Food Safety page, which I have provided links to. If this isn't good enough, then I suggest sticking to a diet of fruits, veggies and protein because this is about as good as it gets! Open Original Shared Link ...
  10. Excellent! Sounds like this guy knows what he is doing. There is no reason to feel deprived on the gluten-free diet so whatever your daughter wants for substitutes, let us know. We'll steer you in the right direction!
  11. Absolutely. The DGP and tTg should be run yearly to make sure she is not getting any gluten in her diet (DGP) and to check for lingering intestinal damage (tTg). A few things to note......many doctors make the mistake of only running the tTg for dietary compliance. That is the test for intestinal damage and it can be elevated from other autoimmune diseases...
  12. The reason I mentioned it, and it has no bearing on the validity of the other 2 tests, was including myself and many others I have spoken to who were diagnosed via blood work, we all had extremely elevated Total IgA, which makes sense with undiagnosed Celiac. This is the first time I have seen antibody blood work that was so high where the Total IgA was...
  13. I would tend to disagree that much of the population suffers from vitamin deficiencies. That is alarmist stuff. Those with malabsorption issues would have to worry about it but if they learn about nutrition and where to get the vitamins and minerals needed, plus address their malabsorption problem, it should rectify itself. If you eat a balanced diet and...
  14. Open Original Shared Link Buy this book and if your family wants home cooked treats, they will have to eat gluten free. No if's, and's or but's! Don't worry...you will get good at gluten-free baking. There is a learning curve but once you master it, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. No more wheat flour in the kitchen! The...
  15. Ummmmmmmm......you have Celiac Disease and I want to welcome you to the club! Your tTg/IgA is way, way elevated and that correlates to intestinal damage. Not to worry......mine was around 200 and I healed very well. The EMA test (Endomysial) is positive and that test is very specific to Celiac, meaning only Celiac can cause a positive result. ...
  16. You know, KB...I wouldn't worry about it. Your blood work speaks for itself. You have Celiac and the symptoms you thought were atypical are not. Many people have panic attacks/depression/anxiety because Celiac affects your brain in a big way. Seratonin is made in the gut so when you have all that inflammation in your gut, chemical production and everything...
  17. Crohns is tested for by a biopsy of the large intestine. It mainly affects the large intestine in most people who have it. I'm sure it can affect other areas of the GI tract....that's a no brainer as it's all connected. Ditto for Celiac Disease. But when they are testing for it, they don't biopsy the mouth.
  18. Open Original Shared Link Here is a link that talks about anemia and Hashi's thyroid disease. I have both Hashi's and Celiac and my thyroid antibodies were off the charts high when I was diagnosed with Celiac, even though I had been diagnosed with Hashi's for about 14 years by then. Thinning eyebrows, especially on the outside of the eyebrow, are one...
  19. This is where confusion and a botched diagnosis can happen when people rely on the "Gold Standard". It is common to have positive blood work and a negative biopsy in people who have not accrued enough damage in their small intestine or the doctor did not hit the right spot and missed damage that could be present. Was there any other test on the Celiac panel...
  20. You do not test for Crohn's Disease via endoscopy...it is a disease of the large intestine. I have also never heard of Crohn's causing elevated Celiac antibody levels and I think I have read more literature on that than most. I would like to see your references for this because it would be a first for me. Also, colon cancer has nothing to do with Celiac...
  21. No one should be having additional nutritional deficiencies after diagnosis, if you are eating a healthy diet. You do not need fortified bread or milk to live well and be healthy. I eat very little dairy because I am still sensitive to it after 9 years gluten-free and I have no deficiencies and am healthy. Ditto for bread. There are some great choices...
  22. You're entirely welcome! It's always a pleasure to know I may have helped put someone in a better frame of mind. Life will always have it's challenges and the key is to find a way to deal with them and make them comfortable. It's the best way to fight back and win!
  23. Actually, in Dr. Peter Green's book on Celiac Disease, he mentions that cardiomyopathy is seen in some Celiac patients as the heart can develop tTg antibodies. If your overactive immune system can attack many other organs, it could also affect the heart. Not too common but it can happen. I'll have to re-read that section to see exact wording. Open...
  24. We're all BFF's with Celiac and I'm glad we made you feel better. You do not want to eat Taco Bell or KFC........not only will your gut feel horrible, it really clogs those arteries! Do you like wine?
  25. Well...now all we have to do is come up with a meeting place. I'll bring the wine..... Yes, Iceland will be visited in the not so distant future. Mu husband and I want to see the aurora's, not to mention the natural beauty of Iceland. I have also heard it is not too hot, weather wise, which is number one on my list of advantages in travel. I know...
