  1. Add me to the hug list, Icelandgirl! But when I read what you said about your mother, it might help to remember that many times, health issues can be familial. Cysts seem to be one of those things. I know mothers and daughters that have had cyst problems but they were never cancerous. Just pesky cysts. So, if your mother has had this experience and everything...
  2. I always shake my head in wonder why other people have so much trouble traveling and eating as a celiac when sensitve as all hell me can do so with little trouble. I am talking international travel here but to be honest, Europe is much more celiac savvy than the US is, although it is getting much better here with each passing year. The Find Me Gluten...

The reason many have not heard of this is because it is totally untrue. I would not rely on information from an "experienced immunologist" unless they also have Celiac Disease and have done their homework. Even then, we have diagnosed Celiacs come on this board and they believe all the urban myths out there that have no basis in reality. Most wines...
  4. The only thing I can offer is that you are correct...acid reflux is not a disease but a symptom of an underlying condition. You are ingesting something your body cannot digest and it wreaks havoc with your stomach. They think everything is a disease these days. I have a few friends who had their acid reflux go away after a time on the gluten-free diet...
  5. I would not get too worried about this and yes, how easy for me to say that, isn't it? Mammography has a high rate of false positives, especially if your breast tissue is dense. I know many women who have had this experience and it was nothing more than calcifications. There are also a number of things that are benign in nature that will show up on...
  6. Here is the information anyone can read to decide whether or not a product is gluten free. http://www.kraftrecipes.com/Products/ProductInfoDisplay.aspx?SiteId=1&Product=5440000005 This is the ingredient listing for A1 sauce and it looks gluten free to me. http://kraftfoods.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1969 The link in blue on the page...
  7. You don't have to go to a doctor to be tested for insufficiency. If you have a problem digesting fats, you will know it. I always suggest taking OTC digestive enzymes because they help tremendously. I have been gluten-free almost a decade and this year, stopped using them to see what would happen. I was using them far less frequently than when first diagnosed...
  8. No one does that, Dee. You just have to relax, eat healthy and don't worry about it. At some point, your gut will heal and absorption will happen and you'll recover. Those tests can be very expensive and are not really necessary...unless you like spending your money on them. I think some people are overthinking this whole thing. As far as contamination...
  9. I have had those crackers/flatbread and they are really, really good. I am a very sensitive Celiac but have been gluten-free almost 10 years so can handle just about anything, food wise. I have never had any problems with them but they have ingredients that may cause problems for some people....especially if you are new to the diet. It should not take...
  10. Very nice post, IrishHeart, and I couldn't agree more!
  11. As usual, Nicole gives stellar advice! You are just like me, Nicole.....I use NDT and it suppresses my TSH, which really freaks doctors out. I am actually running my TSH a bit higher these days, around a 1, because my PCP still thinks incorrectly I am getting too much thyroid hormone. She is OK with going by free T3/T4 only but does not like my TSH that...
  12. I would imagine that most people do not get hair dye in their mouths because it wouldn't be any potential gluten in it that would worry me. Hydrogen peroxide is not something to ever get in your mouth and the other chemicals, if ingested, might land you in the ER or placing a call to the poison center. So, if people think they are being glutened by their...
  13. Hi icelandgirl.......I am not sure about the relationship between thyroid and ongoing GI problems. That is a new one for me. I have both Hashi's (for over 20 years) and Celiac (for 9 years). I was diagnosed with the Hashi's first and still had major gut problems but that was because the Celiac diagnosis came way, way after the Hashi's one. I have had...
  14. WOW! This is one dead horse people continue to beat....... As for not eating raw eggs........I am not giving up gluten-free cookie dough!
  15. Yes, you cannot diagnose Celiac via stool testing. It is not a recognized test. However, the gene testing might be worthwhile as that is solid science and if you do carry a celiac gene, it means you have the predisposition to develop celiac. Many people use it to bolster a diagnosis....or to help in figuring out if they do have it. I did gene testing but...
  16. Jergens is a very safe product. I have been using it for years as it is the BEST moisturizer out there for hands and body. Never had a problem and I am a very sensitive Celiac. Ditto for the Chanel foundation. I have used it and it's a really nice foundation. I do not screen make-up because I do not have a topical allergy to wheat and I do not eat...
  17. Cara gave you great advice and I will go one step further. IBS is not a diagnosis of anything...its called symptom treating. When they cannot find what they are looking for, they lump people into this catergory and give them pills or whatever to suppress their symptoms. Bad idea!!!!!!!!! This is about as true a statement as they come. With your...
  18. Good advice, Arlene!!!!!! You are so smaht! It's nice to be able to think without the brain on gluten thing! As for the IBS diagnosis, Cheryl......IBS is not a diagnosis so when they tell you that your bowel is irritated, the best thing to fire back with is that you know that and want to know why! Otherwise they do what they do.......symptom treat...
  19. Cheryl........here is an article that may help explain some of the genetic stuff but the fact is, you have a predisposition for Celiac. Without any Celiac genes, the odds go way down, almost to zero. Open Original Shared Link You have Sjogren's (so do I), osteoporosis, lupus, low WBC (so do I, and that's common for someone with multiple autoimmune diseases...
  20. If you believe this, then why do you assume that you are reacting to possible gluten in the egg from the chicken having been fed grains? That makes no sense.
  21. If you haven't eliminated dairy yet, try that. I had the same symptoms return after 2 years gluten-free and it was the dairy. I can now tolerate dairy lite but not full scale dairy amounts. Hope you feel better soon!
  22. That's easy....it serves to hold the peanut butter and banana I like to eat for brekkies.
  23. I happen to agree with Peter on this one. But I think the worry has nothing to do with gluten. That stretches into the realm of unreasonable worry. I do not wash produce because I am paranoid that it has gluten smeared all over the surface but because of bacteria and germs. There are people out there who I wouldn't let touch the door handle on my car,...
  24. Many foods which contain no gluten can cause reactions in someone new to the diet and in need of healing. Cauliflower is not a problem for the thyroid if the vegetable is cooked. Cooking diminishes the goitrogenic affect of vegetables. How do I know this? I have Hashi's thyroid disease and eat many cruciferous veggies with no issues at all. I steam them...
  25. I guess that medical marijuana is out of the question? I'm thinking pot brownies? After seeing those photos you posted of your trip to Boston, I guess I am not in total agreement that DS's weight is a huge issue. People think I am too thin but I am at least on the weight charts now, for my height. Smaller/thinner people are not as much of the norm...
