ARCHIVED Is This Gluten Free? Can't Find Any Info!
Gemini replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will second the gluten-free status of any TEVA product in the US. They are an Israeli company and they are the one company I trust. They were the easiest ones to deal with in trying to verify gluten-free status of a medication. I used their Z-Pak antibiotic a few times and never had a problem. I am very sensitive to trace amounts of gluten so trust this... -

ARCHIVED What 20 Ppm Means In Our Lives
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You know what happens when it snows...the bread aisle empties out so it's doubly hard for Celiacs......our bread isn't available everywhere so you have to be prepared. I'm not getting stuck in a blizzard without Canyon Bakehouse! -
ARCHIVED What 20 Ppm Means In Our Lives
Gemini replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As long as we are doing the Canyon Bakehouse 12 step program, I usually keep 5 loaves of it in the freezer....and I usually eat 2 slices per day. The glutton in the household is my husband...who LOVES this bread. We go through about 2 loaves per week and most of it isn't me. However, if my supply gets down to a mere 1 loaf, I have to admit to a little... -

Man....that is A LOT of french toast! -
It is so uplifting to hear a positive story. If only people realized how much of their health lies in their own hands and actions, like you apparently have discovered. Good job and I must say that the ability to kick out coffee and booze for your bones has me in amazement at your self control. I also am fighting back on the bone issue but ditching coffee...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Not Optimistic About New Lifestyle
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Of course you can buy gluten free pasta and bread! As long as you feel OK after eating it, no problemo. Some people may have a problem in the very beginning with carbs due to gut damage and other factors but some don't. I was able to eat gluten-free bread right off the bat and it's a good thing because I was bone thin and needed to gain. You know, gluten... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Not Optimistic About New Lifestyle
Gemini replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
tonalynn...I didn't even get through your post before I decided to reply. I have Celiac and Hashi's myself and from your list of symptoms, I would say you do not have the silent type and all you have listed are either thyroid issues, Celiac issues or both. The root cause of all that you list is Celiac and you have probably had it for years. This is what... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With No Perceptible Symptoms
Gemini replied to caniac4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you and I are on the same path! I freak out if I don't have Biotene mouthwash......not only does it have a nice flavor, it really does help with mouth dryness. As for the Restasis, it has made a HUGE difference for me. It does take a while to really kick in, though. I hope you find the same relief I did. Not to say my eyes are great but they... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With No Perceptible Symptoms
Gemini replied to caniac4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
caniac.....may I suggest trying a prescription for Restasis eyedrops? I use them for my severe dry eye and they have been a God send. They work very well in many people. I also use Biotene mouthwash for dry mouth and again, it works very well at night before you go to bed. It contains enzymes that are present in the saliva you don't have enough of and... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With No Perceptible Symptoms
Gemini replied to caniac4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Suzanne......both Addison's and especially Sjogren's are 2 of the other AI diseases strongly linked to Celiac so those are 2 very large clues to the underlying problem. I also have Sjogren's. I developed 3 of my other AI diseases long before I was diagnosed with celiac. So, it could be that you have had celiac for a very long time, causing you to trip... -
ARCHIVED Dates: Do They Make You Sick?
Gemini replied to T.H.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Considering I am very, very sensitive to small amounts of gluten, and eat dates without issue, I think this is another area where one has to be careful about becoming too paranoid about the food they eat. I know many celiacs who eat dates and have never had a problem. Dates are not listed on any forbidden list by any reputable Celiac organization and I would... -
ARCHIVED Reactions To Non-Gluten Food
Gemini replied to JAY-RU's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jay-ru.......it is very common for newly diagnosed Celiacs to have problems with foods that are normally gluten-free or foods that are processed gluten-free. The key statement you made was that you suffer from GERD.....which really is not a disease state unto itself. GERD happens when you have an underlying condition that is affecting your ability to digest... -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
Gemini replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think if cigarettes made people as sick right away as gluten does for most people, it would be easy peasy to quit. But they don't and it's not. I think it's easy to take being gluten-free seriously because I personally find this easy to do. But I also like to cook and like all those veggies and things many don't. I like eating healthy and don't like... -
ARCHIVED Follow Up On My Atypical Labs
Gemini replied to SkyBlue4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
.......and Sky Blue could continue to damage his/ her intestines and the doctor won't find it so they will be in the same boat. If someone has elevated tTg, and a doctor is willing to diagnose Celiac based on that and symptom list, why is it that people still doubt they have a gluten problem? I don't understand the thought process of those who doubt their... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Rice Mix To Try: Lundbergs
Gemini replied to Candy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lundberg's also does packaged risotto mixes that are excellent. Most are gluten-free and labeled as such. I am very, very sensitive and have used their products for years and never have had a problem. If you are in a pinch for time, these are the next best things to homemade! -
ARCHIVED Follow Up On My Atypical Labs
Gemini replied to SkyBlue4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is no reason for you to stay on gluten with a diagnosis from the doc. He will still get information on the biopsy in November but you do not need the biopsy as an additional diagnostic test. He will still be able to see any damage that is still present, if damage is visible under the scope but that doesn't matter either. What would he do if there... -
I would not get all worried about an ANA test that comes in at 1:40. It is not indicative of something else going on, either, and the reason I say this is because Celiac disease alone can give you an elevated ANA. ANA is a very general test for inflammation and does not diagnose any one disease in particular. It just means you have inflammion going on...

ARCHIVED Work Conferences With Meal Provided....
Gemini replied to Renaye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to use a trainer......I had never done weight training and I did not want to hurt myself. It really helps to have someone teach you the correct way to do things because, at this point, I want no injuries. They push you a bit to challenge you and mix up the exercises for added benefit. I have no choice but to do this as I do not want to take meds... -
ARCHIVED Work Conferences With Meal Provided....
Gemini replied to Renaye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So we are much the same. I have a positive ANA and RF and they are not a little high but up there. They have come down slowly but recent blood work shows a spike in RF BUT I have no symptoms of anything arthritis. I guess it could be classified as sicca also because I have no arthritis symptoms but my doctor calls it Sjogren's. My blood work for Sjogren... -
ARCHIVED Work Conferences With Meal Provided....
Gemini replied to Renaye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Renaye......have you had your vitamin/mineral levels checked, especially iron and ferretin, plus your thyroid? Please exhaust all other possibilities for your fatigue before resorting to meds. I understand the fatigue but I obviously am not as bad as you are suffering right now because I can do a normal day and go to the gym and not be dragging. Ok...I... -
ARCHIVED Ive Developed A Lovely "light Golden Tan" To My Skin. Whats Happening?
Gemini replied to jhol's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think this is wise advice! Bronzing of the skin is a symptom of Addison's. -
ARCHIVED Work Conferences With Meal Provided....
Gemini replied to Renaye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Renaye....I have Celiac, Sjogren's, Reynaud's and Hashi's thyroid disease so I understand your concern about fatigue and the fear of having people think you are a "sickie" and may not be able to last in your job. I have a very demanding job, particularily this past month. I have been doing lots of overtime to meet a deadline before I head off on vacation... -
Irish......A TATTOO?!?!? Sorry...I just couldn't resist! I think we overthink on this one also. I just say, "No, thank you". If people persist, I ask them if they have a hearing problem. I really don't care what people think about my food issues so if they want to get obnoxious about it and try to shove food down my throat that I cannot eat...

ARCHIVED Accepting My Ibs Diagnosis, Odd Symptoms That Don't "fit" Anywhere
Gemini replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have all these symptoms and do not feel good, and try the gluten-free diet and notice positive changes over time, why would it be difficult to stick to the diet and be strict with it? I don't understand this. You have quite a list going there and most, if not all, are related to a gluten problem. You have not found anything else, nor have your doctors...
