My understanding is that Bloom is the upscale chain by the same parent company as Food Lion. Some Bloom are former Food Lion stores. If you aren't in a Food Lion area you probably won't find Bloom.

Mostly encouraging me to vote for "pro-choice" candidates but she did mention one presidential candidate by name. -

ARCHIVED Yes! You Can Make gluten-free Green Bean Casserole
Tim-n-VA replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My wife is allergic to mushrooms so we have used other "cream of..." soups. Since I diagnosis, I 've just avoided the casserole but I might try just thickening some broth, etc. -

Maybe I'm too cyncial but I'd be really hesitant to put my name and number on that website. The techniqes listed (getting your phone number removed from the voter registration list) are probably valid. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Stop These Political Calls

Surprisingly when politicians wrote the rules for the "Do Not Call" they made an exception for political calls. -

What do you use in place of the cream of mushroom soup? -
No guarantees but if a hamburger is promoted as 100% Angus I'd think cc over fillers in the meat. In a hamburger restaurant there are many opportunities for problems.

ARCHIVED Should I Deliberately Gluten Myself
Tim-n-VA replied to wilem008's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
These discussions often blend different questions which aren't the same: 1) Does a patient have celiac disease? That is a specific auto-immune reactions to gluten. Just getting sick when you eat gluten doesn't mean that you are having an auto-immune reaction. 2) How do you definitively diagnose celiac disease? Because celiac symptoms are varied... -
ARCHIVED Anything To Watch Out For At The Dentist?
Tim-n-VA replied to Yenni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is exactly my experience. I asked the dentist and a few months later I asked the hygienist. Both said that gluten was not a problem. Not sure how carefully they checked. That is why I've asked on almost every dental thread for the past year or so for one specific dental product by brand that has gluten to use to start the discussion again. The comment... -
ARCHIVED Anything To Watch Out For At The Dentist?
Tim-n-VA replied to Yenni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Apologies to anyone who has seen this question from me before but can anyone name a specific dental product that defninitely has gluten? There is a list on a website somewhere but everything fell into the "no gluten" or "can't guarantee what our suppliers do" CYA statements. Having just one would make it a lot easier to deal with people who are dismissive... -
When people who are gluten-free are considering getting tests the recommendation is for them to consume gluten for an extended period prior to the test. The exact amount varies but it is signficiant gluten consumption daily for up to six weeks. If you need that much to be sure damage will show in a test, one waffle isn't going to destroy all of your villi...

ARCHIVED Is It Possible?
Tim-n-VA replied to Tamito's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not Jennifer but I'll give another perspective: During routine blood work my primary care doctor noticed that my liver function test were fluctuating. After ultrasounds showed signs of cirrhosis a GI referral lead to a screening panel of blood tests to eliminate things that could cause similar issues. Celiac was one of the tests. If I'd had a history... -
ARCHIVED Potato Flour/starch
Tim-n-VA replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a vague memory of reading that for one the potatoes are cooked first and for the other they are not? Can anyone clarify? -
ARCHIVED Should I Eat Gluten Before Testing?
Tim-n-VA replied to driedupfish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you have a link to one of the studies correlating bloodwork accuracy and villi damage? Not doubting you but that's one of the areas I'd like to know more about - especially as it relates to false results. Thank you. -
I think it depends on whether you are focused on the word "restaurant" or "obligated". A restaurant is not obligated to provide anything that in not on their menu. Good business practices lead most restaurants to try to accomodate special requests. I think it is the difference between asking a steak house to leave croutons off a salad and thinking...

ARCHIVED I Just Thought About This?
Tim-n-VA replied to dreamindarlin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No children at home but I've bought gluten-free candy in the past so I can eat the leftovers. I've also had children as for "something without peanuts please" so I try to make sure I have that covered. To avoid other problems I don't give out shellfish or other major allergens. -
ARCHIVED Options For Lazy Cooks
Tim-n-VA replied to Tim-n-VA's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank for that one. I tried the same process on an apple-nut bread recipe but didn't reduce the fat and it had weird texture but still a pretty good taste. Next time I'll reduce the fat. My only concern with this is that my wife has a diagnosed allergy to pecans and walnuts and by extension just tries to avoid all nuts. She has ate the pancakes with... -
It probably is something that I should just get over but when I see a recipe that tells me to mix four different kinds of flour my first instinct is to forget it. I know that the Pamela's website has some recipes using their baking mix. Can I use that in any Bisquick recipe if the other ingredients are gluten free? I've used Pamela's mix a lot for quick...

ARCHIVED Best Premade Bread Mix To Buy For A Brand New Breadmaker!
Tim-n-VA replied to Silly Yak Pete's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Obviously a personal preference thing but I like Pamela's Wheat Free bread mix. I have used the Gluten Free Pantry sandwich bread mix in the oven but had less success in a bread machine. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Gluten Sensitivity
Tim-n-VA replied to happygirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is easy to confuse clustering effects with causal effects. For example, if you have a compromised (less than perfect) immune system you could have one or more of the auto-immune systems, for example diabetes and celiac. Neither disease caused the other, both were caused by the compromised immune system. That would be clustering effects. On the... -
ARCHIVED Corn Bread?
Tim-n-VA replied to krzsqrll's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most corn bread recipes and/or mixes have a mixture of corn meal and flour. If you use a gluten-free flour, the cornbread will be gluten free. -

Outside the edit time-window so I'll add this comment to my post above. Today I found a Mr. Goodbar with the vegetable oil and no cocoa butter.
