  1. I have a jar of enchilda sauce that does not list any gluten ingredients. It is the Safeway store brand (Select). I have not tried it yet so I can't offer any insight to quality.
  2. Do you want a diagnosis that the general mainstream medical community will recognize? If so, continue to consume gluten, see a GI and get the blood work and biopsy. If you don't care about that acceptance/recognition, try a gluten-free diet and see if you feel better.
  3. I would strongly agree with one caveat. I don't think - and I don't think you intended to imply - that your list of ways to be gluten intolerant is complete. Classic allergies are one example of an intolerance that is not the immune system attacking the body. I would prefer the term gluten sensitive only because in some usage of intolerant is a digestive...
  4. Apparently the Cream of Wheat is also. When I was first diagnosed, my wife actually checked the box for that one.
  5. I've heard several speculation explanations posed as "need to be studied": 1) Modern agriculture has increased the protein content of grains and human could handle the original/natural grains better. 2) Modern sanitation standards have left the immune systems with less to do, resulting in them "looking" for other things to do. 3) Wheat causing...
  6. Do all fillings contain mercury or is there a date range where all contained mercury and another range where non contain mercury with perhaps a transition range?
  7. I just happened to be at the dentist yesterday and they recommended that I have a large filling removed and replaced with a crown due to some problem with this older filling. Having had multiple dentists in my life, how would I know if there is a concern about mercury in those older fillings?
  8. I've not seen the regular flour with the gluten free at the Safeway here. However they do stock the wheat gluten, etc. with the gluten free. Not that it excuses it but I'm sure they are thinking they are grouping all of the specialty baking items together for customer convenience.
  9. There have been several threads on xxx-grass being gluten free where the xxx is a gluten containing grain. It seems to come down to the risk/benefit. There is no gluten in the "grass" of these plantss but there is high risk for cross contamination.
  10. At least here in the DC area they are advertising the addition of a wood-fired grill. No experience with that but it might be safer than some of their other menu lines.
  11. Cross contamination is simply gluten accidentally getting into foods that normally wouldn't have gluten. The above posts give examples of how it could happen.
  12. No inside information but my predictions: 1) "Little Grey" will take what she learned ("teach me") and make another attempt at George. 2) The Denny storyline is a way to remove Izzy from the show after this season.
  13. I don't know why it says that. Usually the gluten free settings skip a second rise cycle. I can tell you that I started a batch of Pamela's mix in a bread machine and the electricity went off in my house for about 15 minutes. The process had completed the initial mixing. Since the oven method said to mix, let the dough rest for an hour and then bake...
  14. As the above posts have pointed out, the normal blood/biposy tests are checking for the body's reaction to gluten so you have to have been consuming it. However, at least one of the posts implied that genetic testing is being done. My understanding is that you don't have to be consuming gluten for the genetic testing because it isn't looking for a reaction...
  15. The simpliest explanation is that maybe there are different diseases/conditions that cause a reaction to gluten and Celiac is only one of these. I don't see any real advantage of lumping diseases with some things the same, some things different into one group. A true wheat allergy is very different from Celiac despite having some things in common. ...
  16. Do a search for: DODI 6130.4 That gives the medical standards for initial appointment, enlistement and induction. Each service has its own procedures to deal with medical conditions that arise or are discovered after someone is on active duty. Celiac is not specifically mentioned but malabsorbtion and inflamation in the intestines are both disqualifying...
  17. We tried that today based on a recipe we had from pre-Celiac days. Our recipe called for cherry pie filling, then the cake mix, then one can of crushed pineapple, then two sticks of butten (sliced into thin squares and spread over the pineapple) then optional items of coconut or nuts. We only put coconute from the option items and it came out great. ...
  18. With chain restaurants I don't think you can generalize too much. I've had a great variation in quality of the product from individual store to individual store.
  19. Could be regional but I find it at both Giant and Safeway in the northern Virginia area.
  20. For my first one I asked about the sedative's impact on a gag reflex. I said I was extremely sensitive so they sprayed my throat to help with that. I had no problems at all. For my second, I forgot to mention that issue and they had trouble intially and had to spray after I was partially sedated and I had a sore throat for a day or so. Not sure...
  21. I'm not a lawyer and don't even play one on TV but I'd guess that since none of these products are intended to be consumed, there is no labeling law. Of course, since they are trying to hit the "green" market they will probably prominently promote the vegetation as a input angle.
  22. This company was mentioned on a music oriented website that I frequent because they make guitar picks and drumsticks out of wheat. I went to their site and they make chopsticks and flatware also- out of wheat. They do have a statement on their site that their products are safe for people with wheat allergies. Thoughts? Opinions? Didn't want to post...
  23. I had purchased Ore Ida "tater tots". They didn't list any gluten ingredients. However, they aren't on the gluten-free list but I can't find them listed on the website at all. Anyone have any experience with those? I opted not to eat them last night but lacking any other info I'll try them over the weekend when I have time to recover if I'm wrong...
  24. I'm 50 and married 26 years so screening out women is not an issue. In a future, hypothetical situation I think similar to what ShayFL has said. If she only wants expensive entertainment that would be a clue.
  25. Have your tried it yet? I visit Raleigh 2-3 times a year. I'll look for that next time I'm there.
