That is dementedly funny but it's even funnier after seeing the original song. OK susie Q.... here's what you do: 1. Copy the link 2. Hit the little green box with the plus sign 2 over from the smiley face. 3. A box pops up 4. Hit Ctrl V (that will paste the link in) 5. Hit Ok 6 Name it "This" or whatever you want to call it. Hit OK 7. Voila... -

ARCHIVED Oatmeal?
Mtndog replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As far as I know, oats are not OK. The biggest problem is that they are usually contaminated by other gluten. There doesn't seem to be a concensus in the medical community about whether or not they cause damage because the protein structure is different, but I wouldn't chance it. Try quinoa or other whole grains. BTW, I love your pic! You're not in... -
ARCHIVED Bourban Whiskey

Well-said! The potato part! It's hard because a lot of stuff is "technically" gluten-free but that doesn't maen you won't react to it. That's the hard part with the learning curve on this disease. You have to figure out what you react to and what you don't. One person will tell you that the Celiac Sprue association says blah blah is gluten-free but... -
ARCHIVED Is One Of Our Members Buried Under 100" Of Snow?
Mtndog replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I thought it was Richard but I checked and he's Oneonta. They're getting snow too! I can't believe that! And they're expected to get 2-3 more feet! -
Dishwashers (contrary to the beliefs of some of my family ) do NOT remove gluten. They may be more sanitary but I still wash my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. With my hubby and I (he does eat some gluten- but not a lot) I bought seperate pots and pans. They're red. So, he knows that anything red (you could even just mark pans with a red Sharpie...

Anal Bleeding?
Mtndog replied to melrobsings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think Ursa's probably right. My hubby has internal hemorrhoids and has this happen from time to time. I know Columbia is renowned for its celiac center. Hope you're OK. -
ARCHIVED When To Retest & Horseback Riding
Mtndog replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I LOVE TO RIDE TOO! I was gluten-free for about a year but still pretty symptomatic when I tried to go back. I leased a horse for a month and wore gloves and an N95 mask (I think that's what it's called- you can get them in a hardware store and I don't think avain bird flu can even pass through these things!) when I groomed. I did no feeding and I wore gloves... -
ARCHIVED Bourban Whiskey
Mtndog replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bourbon is initially made from gluten-containing grain but the distillation process supposedly takes the gluten out. I have reacted to other alcohols made from grains so I usually stick to tequila, potato vodka, etc. But I think the general conscensus in celiac literature is that it's OK. BUT, make sure there's nothing funky in the coloring. -

Here's some more: Fun Things To Do At Wal-Mart 1. Take shopping carts for the express purpose of filling them and stranding them at strategic locations. 2. Ride those little electronic cars at the front of the store. 3. Set all the alarm clocks to go off at ten minute intervals throughout the day. 4. Contaminate the entire auto department... -
That is a very good point! I take phenergan when glutened too Molly! It really works but it makes me pretty dopey (not that I'm not dopey anyway) . I took some last night and feel better today. It's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Thanks everyone! It makes me feel like I am somewhat in the spectrum of normal (whatever the heck that means). It's been 10 days and I actually was starting to wonder if I reglutened myself but I checked everything so I'm starting to suspect that those gluten-free breadcrumbs were REAL I hope you feel better soon too Lisa.

I got glutened 10 days ago and I am still wretched. Normally, if I get cross-contaminated it's about 3-4 days of wretchedness but this is just going on and on and on and on........ I think I just want someone to tell me it's going to end

ARCHIVED Help The Us Govt Define "gluten Free"
Mtndog replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Publications & Publicity
I know- me too! I know the protein is different but I don't think it's been definitively proven that oats DON'T do damage. Does anyone know otherwise? If oats were not cross-contaminated would they be safe? I woouldn't eat them, but I'm curious. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Mtndog replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Agreed. When I posted as a moderator asking people to stay on topic it was my polite way of saying "Drop the clash of wills". Perhaps I should havae just said that rather than skirt the issue politely. And yes, Jerry was put off by the posts in this thread. -

I just got this from mouse. It's hilarious: ZEN SARCASM 1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone. 2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt 3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Mtndog replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OOps- sorry. Glad you piped up and asked. CC means cross-contamination as in what you're eating is actually gluten-free but somewhere in the process of being prepared it came in contact with gluten. For example, I loved Blue Diamond Nut Thins but I got sick from them because they are processed on the same lines as products containing gluten. Everyone has... -

I only get it now when I am glutened but it is HORRIBLE...like you described. Exhausted but you can't sleep. I take prescription medication when this happens. Otherwise, not only am I glutened but I'm so comatose the next day that I feel even worse (9and do dumb things like put my socks in the refrigerator instead of the hamper.

Tanya- I was thinking endometriosis too. Or a cyst that for whatever reason didn't show up in the ultrasound. It couldn't be your hip could it? I hope you find out soon!

Mtndog replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep- you are not alone. It's been a problem my entire life. Before going gluten-free and affter. Cutting out gluten and legumes made no difference. Cutting out dairy made no difference. I tried EVERYTHING from fiber to flax seed to magnesium. NOTHING worked. I finally gave in and started taking the Miralax that my doctor presecribed for me (GI- Celiac specialist... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Mtndog replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you kidding me? Faced without eating for three days, I'd eat gluten too! Yes- you would pay (as you did) but you can only go so long without food. It makes sense that this was how you learned about gluten withdrawal, etc. Honestly, I am similar to you in that I'd rather take the occasional risk of CC and enjoy my life than NEVER eat out, NEVER... -

This is me right now: 10 WAYS TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE "ESTROGEN ISSUES" 1. Everyone around you has an attitude problem. (Check!) 2. You're adding chocolate chips to your cheese omelette (Forget the omelette- just give up the chocolate!) 3. The dryer has shrunk every last pair of your jeans. (I just said this!) 4. Your husband is suddenly...
