Mtndog replied to Jackie927's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There's a great website called Open Original Shared Link This is what it said about elevated homocysteine: "Recent studies have suggested that people who have elevated homocysteine levels have a much greater risk of heart attack or stroke than those with average levels. Increased concentrations of homocysteine have been associated with an increased tendency... -

ARCHIVED Crackpot Theory?
Mtndog replied to Jonbo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A lot of people's Celiac start to show on after a traumatic physical/emotional event like surgery, pregnancy. Mine came on after my mom passed away (and I got Lyme about 3 months later). I think my system was overloaded and I had the gene. As far as genetics go, they are still discovering genes related to celiac. Someone in your family may have it and... -

One thing I've noticed is that my cravings DEFINITELY depend on my medications. When I switch, so do my cravings. My thyroid became hypothyroid and I could have eaten chocolate on EVERYTHING. Went on thyroid medication and poof! I still want it but not the way I did before. I think sometimes we crave what our body needs (gluten-excluded). I NEVER craved...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Pet Food -- Really Necessary?
Mtndog replied to OliveBranch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you're sensitive, you may want to do this. I did it for a long time just to rule it out as a possibility. I've noticed a lot of pet foods have recently cut out wheat gluten after the contamination made so many animals ill. Gluten-free pet foods do tend to be more expensive (usually organic or holistic brands). I used one of the Wysong's mixes. I... -
ARCHIVED What Is Polenta & What Do I Do With It?
Mtndog replied to K-Dawg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Finding new foods is funny sometimes- it's like What is THIS and What the HECK do I do with it? That's how I felt about quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) and now I LOVE quinoa pasta (but still don't know what the heck to do with real quinoa). Ranger's ideas sound yummy! I make a polenta lasagna (you could try it with a different sauce). Frying it in olive oil... -

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And I Do Not Want To Believe It
Mtndog replied to Liz790's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Although you are NOT lucky to have celiac, you are lucky to get diagnosed before things got much much worse. It is a big adjustment so give yourself sometime to get used to both the idea and the diet. As far as bread goes, I LOVE Against the Grain baguettes and rolls and all the Whole Foods sandwich breads. IMO, don't try the EnerG breads- you'll feel... -
I go to the Upper West side 3-4 times a year. Sambuca's is YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!! If you get down to Greenwich Village you MUST go to Risoterria at the corner of Bleecker and Morton- gluten-free pizza, pasta, breadsticks and yummy desserts. I dream about Joe's Famous Fudgie's- they're chocolate frosting sandwiched between two big, yummy bakery style chocolate...

ARCHIVED Need To Let The Thoughts In My Brain Out
Mtndog replied to dream77's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is no "right way" to think about all this- you feel the way you feel and that's OK. You've been through a lot and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Between the thyroid, the pain, working full-time and caring for a toddler, your body has dealt with a lot. Take a deep breath and give yourself credit for persevering! Stay gluten free, see how you... -
I don't have cysts but I do have a fibroid and THAT causes pain so I would imagine (and have heard from friends with cysts) that they DO hurt quite a bit. I would either bug your OB/GYN or find a new one who will listen to you goshdarnitall!
