  1. I am looking for a good pasta maker so that I can make gluten-free egg noodles. I probably won't make any other kind, but I am not sure yet. I have a kitchen aid mixer, so I have been thinking about getting one that attaches to that, but they are pretty expensive. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper one that works great. I just don't want to roll...
  2. Nope, I am in central Tx, halfway between houston and Austin. We have no local groups here. The closest one is about 45 minutes away. Too far for me! And let me just say, I am so glad that everything is thawing out! I was really getting tired of staying inside! ptkds
  3. Well, I don't know about yall, but I have had enough of this cold weather. I want my kids to go back to school! And I couldn't even take my dd to her 9 month check up cuz the dr couldn't even leave her home! She was frozen in! And my kids keep coming in from outside all wet and freezing. I live in Tx so I don't have to deal w/ the cold weather! I want...
  4. I was recently diagnosed w/ celiac disease. Last week I was glutened by some ice cream that I thought was safe. Instead of getting diarrhea, I got a rash. It was mostly on my face at first. My nose, cheek, under my eye, on the back of my neck, and around my mouth were the worst. It wasn't symmetrical, though. But it is so itchy! And sweating makes it itch...
  5. So, do we have the same GI???? When I took my dd (she was around 16 months at the time), she had been having soft poop for months. He told me it was "toddler diarrhea" and said to take her off of fruit for 1-2 weeks and she would be fine. This was after her pedi tested her and the results were positive. Then I got tested for Celiac, and it came back...
  6. So I finally made it to the store today, and I checked the Vanilla BB ice cream. It looks safe to me. The half gallon containers also contain gluten. I am betting that the stuff at the Outback is the same as what is in the small containers. I have been to the factory a few times and they make the ice cream in huge mixing machines and then put it in the...
  7. The last 2 ingredients are wheat flour and oat flour. I am so disappointed in them. I don't know about thier other flavors, either. I plan on looking at those today when I go to the store. Maybe if a whole bunch of ppl complain, they will change their ingredients!! So complain! The corporate phone number is 979-836-7977. I am only posting it because it...
  8. I read that Blue Bell Ice Cream was gluten-free, so I have been giving it to my dd's and eating it myself. Anyway, the cafeteria manager called today from dd's school and told me that the chocolate ice cream cups (that I approved for my dd's!) contained wheat. Then I checked out the stuff I had in the freezer, and it contained wheat. I am so disappointed...
  9. My mom usually drinks the Diet A&W Root Beers. Lately she has noticed that she gets gluten-like symptoms after drinking one. She as been gluten-free for about 6 weeks. Any one else have problems w/ this stuff? As far as we know, they are supposed to be safe. Thanks! ptkds
  10. Thanks for posting!! I can't wait to try it! I may just have to make it today! ptkds
  11. I know EXACTLY how you feel! I went to lunch at school w/ my dd's to make sure thier meals were safe. At thier school, they have a snack bar where the kids can get ice cream bars and chips and stuff. I had been told that Blue Bell ice cream was safe, so when I saw the fudge bar, I assumed it was safe and told my dd that she could have that. While she was...
  12. khabe1968~ Could you share your cinnamon swirl bread recipe w/ us?? It sounds really yummy! I LOVE cinnamon rolls, but I haven't been brave enough to make them from scratch yet! ptkds

I am so sorry about this. I know the feeling w/ potlucks. We have potlucks at church alot and I dread those because ppl will always give my toddler food or allow their toddler to "share" with her. You can always say that you can't go because you are scared you will get sick, or take all of your own food and make a point of saying how hurt you are that...
  14. If I were you, I would just start her on the diet and forget further testing. That is what I have done w/ my older dd's. My dd #2 had one high number, but the "gold standard indicator" number was not elevated. But I just put her on the diet anyway since I have celiac disease and dd#3 has it. The diet is the best test anyway. I had my dd#3 scheduled for a...
  15. I saw on another post that someone stated that the WalMart brand boneless chicken breast are gluten-free, but when I looked at them they didn't state that they were gluten-free. Has anyone else had a problem w/ this chicken? None of the ingredients looked suspicious to me, but I was worried about cc. Thanks! ptkds
  16. Since going gluten-free at the beginning of Dec, I have lost 9 lbs without trying. My mom has been gluten-free for a little longer than me, and she has lost 20 lbs. Neither one of us has been exercising, and i have been eating all kinds of christmas candy! I am excited and I hope I keep losing!! ptkds
  17. The recipe I used is 1 c PB, 1 c sugar, 2 eggs (not 1). They turned out wonderfully, and they were a hit at the church potluck and at christmas dinner! ptkds
  18. You are awesome!! I have a VERY similar sugar cookie recipe that I tried to adapt the other day to be gluten free. They came out all crumbly, but tasted great! All the other recipes I have found have to be rolled out. I HATE rolling out cookie dough. I will try our your version of my favorite recipe and see how it tastes!!!! Thanks, ptkds
  19. My dd#2 tested positive for Celiac, so I of course put her on the gluten-free diet. She has been gluten-free for nearly a week and she has been having HORRIBLE temper tantrums. I have a feeling that the gluten is causing behavior problems, but these are sometimes even worse than before. Could it be a withdrawal from gluten?? I was hoping that she would be...
  20. Where are you getting Tinkyada for $2 a pkg? I was looking on Amazon and they had a 12 oz pkg for 3.68 and Barry Farms has a 16 oz pkg of corn pasta for 3.49. Please let me know! I really like the Tinkyada, and so does my family. ptkds
  21. I was thinking about ordering some Corn pasta from Barry Farms. Has anyone ever tried these? They are pretty cheap, and I have used some of their other products. I would rather use the Tinkyada, but they are just too expensive. Thanks! ptkds
  22. So I have only been gluten-free for about 10 days. My dd's went to a bday party and they got bags full of candy. I was pumping gas when my oldest dd stuck her head out and showed me the butterfinger she was eating. I took a LITTLE bite (maybe the size of your fingertip) and then we both realized that it wasn't a regular butterfinger. It was a crispy one,...
  23. My dd's bloodwork came back positive when she was only 16 months old. You can do the blood work and then just put him on the diet and see how he does. It won't hurt him, and you could find the answer! All my dd's are now gluten-free (except the baby) and I will challenge the oldest in about 2-3 months because her blood work was almost normal, but she has...
  24. My mom was diagnosed w/ gastroperesis about 9 yrs ago. Since I was diagnosed last month, she has about decided that her symptoms are actually from Celiac or celiac disease caused her gastroperesis. She isnt' sure yet. She has only been gluten-free for about a week but she already feels better. She has diabetes and she has lots of leg pain. But those pains...
  25. My brother just sent me this link. I though it was pretty funny!! Enjoy!! ptkds
