  1. just a quick post here... run to Walgreens & get yourself some Nature Made B12, 1,000mcg ones, they are gluten-free. Take 1 after each meal TODAY, then research about the sublingual ones & get those... (I am allergic to mannitol so cannot take them) YES, get all your blood levels checked right away for all the vitamins & minerals...!!!...
  2. Your "friends" are using you... No one should ask you to "run" a restaurant. It is a 24/7 job & if it was a gluten-free restaurant you should be an equal partner, they putting up the money - you putting in the labor. With all the legal documents to set that up with a good review by YOUR attorney. But expect the friendship to end real quick... If...
  3. Yes you can eat with just meat, fish, veggies. can you eat nuts? It is good to add some walnuts to your diet. Maybe some almond butter. you can boil chicken for chicken salad, bake chicken, bake fish, fry pork chops, cook a roast... fresh or canned salmon... for veggies I suggest baked sweet potatoes, stir fried cabbage or steamed cabbage, steamed...
  4. Not trusting doctors might save your life one day. nothing much has changed, 37 years ago, I told my doctor that every time I gave my toddler son a soda cracker he got diarrhea. my doctor said that there was no way that a soda cracker could give a child diarrhea. That he had a virus or something. I said okay. So I am at home & I will never forget...
  5. I am sure Ursa will get back to you soon. Many of us on here are ONLY gluten intolerant, because we do not have DQ2 or DQ8 genes. I am double DQ1, for instance. This is only the medical definition of celiac as they think they know all about celiac. when in fact they know almost nothing... A good place to start is by reading the book "Dangerous...
  6. one option would be a hot baked potato with sausage. Also baked sweet potato. If she likes sausage I would let her eat it every day.
  7. sandpiper, I would encourage you to check out Enterolab. Re food testing for allergies, it was many years ago - about 36 years ago, & I had the pricks under the skin - I am not sure what the best allergy tests are now... there was an article on the home page here at celiac.com recently about double DQ2 genes & melanoma & I think diabetes...
  8. I would just start with a gluten free, dairy free and soy free diet. You do not need a test or a doctors permission to just feed your son some veggies, baked chicken, baked sweet potatoes, fruits and some nuts... very interesting how the doctor just ignored a question about changing the childs diet... sorry, but you know if you put the wrong things down...
  9. Geez, most of us are Irish - we kid a lot, can't anybody take a poke in the fun comment!! Did ya see the little smiley faces? believe me I could have thought of a million words to say if I really had an opinion on the matter. But you know what it does not matter one whit whether kids eat in the car or not. Not a life shaking matter, don't sweat...
  10. You could also give her dairy & soy with the gluten that should help the villi get damaged better and quicker.
  11. leelee, neurological can include what you have which is migraines, depression, foggy brain - that kind of stuff, plus more!! for jaw pain have ya'll checked out TMJ? You would need a full bite guard to see if it makes the pain go away. I would go to a good dentist & get that checked out - it can also cause headaches... I still wear my bite guard...
  12. what are the ages of your little ones? Are they old enough to open a lunch box - those flat type ones & eat over their lunch box - & you could pass out the treats & a napkin - I also like those wet wipes in little packages. Another option would be a paper lunch bag with the top half cut off - then they can put the treat in the bag & eat...
  13. bottom line doctors make money doing biopsies & they also can use your child for a "case report" if they complete the diagnostic work. I would never put a child thru a biopsy, there is a thread on here about all the complications, just a few of which could be complications from anesthesia - especially in underweight sick kids, & the docs can...
  14. There is also a Pei Wei on I-35 at Palmer, they have a gluten-free menu in the restaurant, Carrabba's also has a gluten free menu in the restaurant... There are a lot of people eating gluten-free in Austin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. where is your child during the day now? Do you work? How long has she been gluten-free? Is she also dairy and soy free? There are computer programs that interact with children & the child talks back etc & you can monitor that if you are home with her during the day. There are other things that you can do to help her. I would also get her a...
  16. several options but number 1 you have got to have some self confidence - no one respects a person that does not stand up for what they need to do to be healthy... Wheat is one of the top 10 allergens - nothing wrong in saying you have a severe wheat allergy. Always assume that there will be bread or pasta on a dish, if I order something that is...
  17. I would not be going to that dinner... I would also like to point out that if your daughter does go & does not eat anything that she is highly likely to get sick anyway from breathing in the raw flour from the pizza dough that will be in the air & on everything. not fun to spend your wedding day doubled over in pain - or making an extra trip...
  18. re just whole milk - no not likely, it is part of the whole gluten thing. sounds like your villi are damaged & cannot digest the milk. My guess is that the cheese is just going straight thru you... but you know that is also common, no one at first can wrap their brain around the fact that such a "healthy" food as bread can be killing you. sometimes...
  19. Lucky you for living in Austin, most of the great bar be que places are gluten free. there is the Wildwood Art cafe on Bee caves Road. Chuy's will make the enchiladas for you on corn tortillas, I ate there recently & had no problem. Also, there are items you can eat at Cracker Barrell. Contact the Austin celiac group - they are very active & should...
  20. Yes, welcome to the world of the "gluten intolerant". You might want to get the gene test thru Enterolab.com - they will also test for the gluten intolerant genes. You could have two copies of the DQ1 gene - if so - that is why you are so sick, that is a bad combination to have. I have two DQ1 genes & all my family does also. Do you have any other...
  21. I would not let the child suffer just to pacify another doctor & another test. Food allergies is another common sign of celiac disease. The child probably has a couple of other intolerance besides gluten that will not show up any test. But when you eliminate gluten, dairy, & soy from the diet, you will be able to pick out another problem.....
  22. yes, as soon as her tummy gets better she will have regular potty habits. Are you eating gluten in your house? Using flour to bake with? the stuff floats up & gets on everything... nursery school is going to be hard - if other kids are playing with play dough they will then touch other stuff & when your daughter touches it & then touches...
  23. Just as a precaution I would keep a folder with the email to the teachers & the replies. I would also document your childs needs in a letter & hand it to all the people mentioned in the posts above, including the school district health director, principal, district school board AND I would also mail a certified copy, to all the same people so that...
  24. or maybe contact your local celiac support group for referrals to a naturpathic doc... this lady is not a doctor, she is Cleo J. Libonati, RN, BSN & has written a book "Recognizing Celiac Disease" but what it is really all about is celiac disease in all its manifestations & the underlying nutritional deficiencies. She spoke at our support group...
  25. all you need is enterolab.com Good for your mommy instincts...
