  1. Yes, some people cannot handle any grains. He does not need any grains at all at this time. Please do not give him the gluten free waffles & stuff - some of us are allergic or just plain cannot handle the grains. Definitely do not give him quinoa. What he is eating is fine (the bananas, applesauce, veggies...) - add in some baked or boiled chicken...
  2. meds are affected in that if your intestines are not healed you do not absorb them. If you are not strictly gluten-free then you are not healed - whether you have symptoms or not.
  3. My opinion is that the underlying immune reaction is always there, that you may or may not have symptoms but disregard them as "part of life". For your sister I would guess that she always had a problem with gluten. It probably just showed up as neurological & other things. No one uses drugs & goes to prison that is healthy & happy & making...
  4. I am so sorry that you are going thru this. If you want an endoscopy I would call the doctor again & see if they can fit you in sooner or get another doctor- ask them if they know anyone... But, personally I would not waste another day poisoning myself. I would quit eating gluten & get the Enterolab.com tests. Also, you should start taking a...
  5. Please do not eat any gluten free cereal at this time... wait... if you have a microwave, wash a sweet potato, poke a couple of holes in it with a fork & put in a glass dish & microwave until soft. You could try some well cooked white rice. cook some carrots - just slice carrots into a glass bowl - maybe drizzle on a little honey & cinnamon...
  6. Oh Good For You !!!!! Please let us know the results. It will be the best money you ever spent...
  7. you can also add chocolate chips to those peanut butter cookies!!!!!
  8. In most of the books that I have read they keep coming back to the same thing, grains are not good for you. I put flax seed, oats, & soy in the same category as grains. Flax seed may do some people a world of good, but I am not one of those people & I do not think that they are good for everyone. Also, if you read "Good Calories Bad calories...
  9. Yes, you have to take it all out , sorry... After she heals she might be able to tolerate butter - real butter, it is low in casein. Please do not use margarine - the human body does not know what to do with that stuff. try cooking just meats & veggies without doing casseroles... until you get more comfortable cooking without cheese. make...
  10. Sorry for the delayed post - I have been out of it with a really bad cold... The DQ1 gene test I got thru Enterolab.com - very reasonable cost & no doctors orders needed. They mail you a kit & it is a cheek swab. They are only one of two labs in the U.S. that test for the gluten intolerance genes in addition to the celiac genes. Like ravonwoodglass...
  11. Be sure to get blood work done to check your vitamin & mineral levels... Weight gain is common...
  12. double what GFP said & I also agree with Ursa. Bottom line is that the doctor knows nothing about celiac disease. You are a willing guinea pig & he will make some money off the biopsy. No harm done - because he is not the one that will get sick - you will, but not to worry, as far as the doctor is concerned, because he has medicine to fix up...
  13. Highly unlikely that you will get a positive blood or biopsy diagnosis that young. You do have a diagnosis though, through dietary results, which is the ultimate test. For relief - quit feeding the child grains, dairy & soy. yes, you have to be eating gluten for the test to be positive - usually. Some will test positive while not eating grains...
  14. You might contact Mrs Grossman's stickers in California. She has a huge line of gorgeous acid free stickers and papers etc. They are very consumer oriented & I am sure you would get a reply. They used to supply schools, not sure if they still do. Open Original Shared Link here is the link...
  15. If you have DH you have celiac. Also, if you have a gluten intolerance gene DQ1 or DQ3 (& a couple others I think) one is more likely to have dyslexia, & other neurological problems - most all are cleared up on the gluten-free diet... when my dyslexic dil that has at least one DQ1 gene (two of her children are double DQ1) was gluten-free for...
  16. I thankfully am allergic to flax seed. So I have not been tempted to try it. I do not know one single food that is good for everyone... I personally believe it is not healthy along the same vein that I do not think that soy is healthy. Just my opninion. I am also allergic to oats, so I am not going to be checking into any oats... I have two copies...
  17. You can order a honey baked ham a day ahead without the glaze, you can even order 1/2 one. Or just get Boar's head deli ham. Make deviled eggs the night before, coleslaw, make or buy a bag & add your dressing, potato salad or English pea salad, good & you can make a day or two ahead. Take some chips, (make sure no one sticks their hands in the bag...
  18. Ursa, I am so glad you are reading that book - you are going to love it!!!! after that one I read "Omnivore's Dilemma" also very good, in a different way. It is my personal opinion that what causes colon cancer is grains (well & dairy).
  19. My mother died of colon cancer... I am double DQ1 Flax is not for everyone, I would check it out before adding to your diet. I do not eat grains, (except occasional corn tortilla maybe once a week-my weekend indulgence) if you do not eat grains - you will eat a lot of fresh fruit & veggies & meat & nuts. dried fruits are also a good snack...
  20. Fedora, I posted on your other thread about testing. good luck tomorrow. I am double DQ1, 61 now. But when I was 25 & severely ill as was my baby son, I had both of us tested for food allergies. I was allergic to barley and oats in addition to a lot of other foods & there was a lot of whispering going on - I look back & think that I was...
  21. I am double DQ1, gluten intolerant - it is not going to show up on a "celiac" test until you are nearly dead... Gluten Intolerance can attack you neurologically and thru all your other organs before it messes with the guts... the dietary trial is the ultimate true test.
  22. be sure to print out the tests for celiac & take it with you - they will not have the info. Also, since they are drawing blood might as well have them get enough to do the iron levels, B12, D, A, potassium, etc etc. - I would get them to run everything now. Then when she is most likely negative on the celiac test - you can see if she has any problems...
  23. well if 1 out of 6 samples was not normal - you have a villi problem. the damage can be very patchy. 6 samples is better than 1 but 12 samples is the norm made by the specialists - I think... You can also get a gene test (& other testing) thru enterolab.com. they will test for the gluten intolerant genes in addition to the celiac genes. If at...
  24. I use Sunspire Chocolate Chips, I get them at Whole foods. I use coconut milk in place of milk for homemade fudge and baking. I can eat butter - use it in my fudge. Butter is low in casein. Some people can tolerate it, some cannot. But, I will say that I do not use it much, just for baking & I rarely bake... I would avoid soy milk products,...
  25. wow, I cannot take sublingual B12 either - gives me an instant migraine - I think it is the mannitol... Anyway, yes you should take a B12 - try another one. I take nature made, get them at Walgreens. & yes, very telling that you like all the nightshade foods - a lot!!! For the time being I would give them all up - then later you might be able to...
