  1. Have you contacted your local celiac support group or the ROCK group? There are also children's books that are good... If the above is not an option how about contacting the local doc that dx her & also an allergist to see if they can make some contacts - wheat is one of the top ten allergies. You might also ask at her school - surely she is not the...
  2. jason, no it is not true. You can develop "full blown celiac" from untreated gluten intolerance. I know several double DQ1 people personally to disprove that theory. Once diagnosed via blood test & one diagnosed via biopsy. Of course they have been sick their whole life & are in their 50's now. If you want to wait that long & take your chances...
  3. Scotty most people end up with a negative biopsy anyway - get the biopsy if you have to, but I would not eat gluten before hand... You can made the argument about the 22 feet of intestine etc & only a tiny sample - if you do not tell them beforehand they will probably only take 2 samples anyway... & yes it is a shame your endo is so closed minded...
  4. The definition of celiac which is damaged villi - is too narrow. Some of us have other problems from gluten but if those problems do not kill us first we will develop villi damage. The problem is that we that do not have villi damage as a first symptom are dying of cancer before the villi are damaged. Or we are dying of complications of obesity, asthma...
  5. I think that some people when they get older they "just figure out" some things that they cannot eat. My grandmother lived to be 89 & watched her diet her whole life & was never overweight. She was an Irish red head. Then I know a lady that her sister has dx celiac & she probably has it to... & their mother lived to be about 110 &...
  6. just my opinion, but life is about changes, I would find new friends... you can start a gluten-free play group as easily as you started that one...
  7. Yes to what AliB said - He can be gluten free & should be BUT he should not eat gluten-free pasta & all that junk . Good healthy gluten-free as in meat, veggies, fruits, nuts, seafood... nothing else. Like Jack LaLanne says - if man made it, don't eat it!!!!!
  8. If he does not give up all dairy & soy he might not get better. That is just like pouring salt on a wound. He needs to be eating a very plain whole foods diet. & the kitchen/house should be completely gluten-free, too much chance of CC if you take gluten foods in there. Just get everything out of the kitchen, then if he wants dairy he will...
  9. IMO yogurt does matter, it is dairy. Do not eat it & see if you get better.
  10. you could really improve your fiance's life if you study up on gluten and dairy & soy you will find that really it is not fit for anyone to consume. I would like to suggest two books "Dangerous Grains" & "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes. anyone with kidney disease should not be eating gluten, dairy, or soy...
  11. Hi Deb, I as so glad you gave up those rice cakes!!! I bet you are feeling better!! Amazing how we can lose weight when we just get rid of foods that are bodies are having problems with - not that we have a problem liking that food!!!! mushroom, you can eat the occasional orange - it does not affect the joints as bad as the orange juice - which is...
  12. Nice thread although I forget what it started out to be but at least I am old enough to post here, 61, not too difficult to remember how old I am these days, since I have finally quit lying about my age Mushroom, for your arthritis, I suggest that you should be completely dairy free & not just lactose free - lactose free does nothing, IMO. Also...
  13. Yep, just get a new doc - if you need one - but I agree with Ursa just test thru Enterolab & do not make yourself & your son sicker with trying to eat enough gluten to damage yourself so some doctor can tell you that the blood test is negative & no need to restrict your diet... nutty doctors. & sorry the dr was so rude to pull that junk...
  14. I have seen in my family that babies are born with it - just for starters, me, my son, & his son - I think that the baby is born sick from the gluten that the mother eats when pregnant. & of course none of us knew better. We were eating high gluten and high dairy diets with of course any soy that was added to foods along with additives, preservatives...
  15. I would give it at least 3 months - because at first you are going to unknowingly get some gluten... yep, your list is the typical laundry list that is different for each person & no one can put it all together. I bet you have even left out some things... how are your teeth? any cavities? do you still have your appendics? gall bladder? I used...
  16. Also, when you took gluten and dairy out of your diet, did you ADD anything to your diet? Like any new gluten-free foods? You really should not add anything new until you are healed. & if you are reacting that badly to dairy you probably cannot handle soy. to sum up, omit all soy & any new foods that you have added to your diet & see how...
  17. congratulations!!!! & please do not believe the doc no one outgrows celiac, or gluten intolerance ...
  18. I am not sure what is in all that gluten-free stuff I do not eat it. Very unhealthy IMO.
  19. I am allergic to beef - gives me the big tummy ache - I do not eat beef. Try boiled shrimp, baked chicken, baked salmon... I can also eat pork & turkey
  20. I am also not interested in any drugs or a "cure". I prefer a healthier way of eating. Of course I guess some of the powers to be are realizing that they might need it for the masses, when their anti-acids no longer work...
  21. AliB thanks for those great posts. Rachel, I feel that with all your health issues that eating gluten is going to lower your immune system. You may not think that you have any symptoms now, but wait, six months is not a long time - & the longer you keep giving your body a little gluten here & there the sooner the "cup is going to run over". ...
  22. Are you sure saving money to buy a house is worth losing your health? I would not do it. If you let her have wheat in your house - big mistake. when you are in HER house, you will have NO say as to how she runs HER kitchen. You can try talking to her but unless she is a very nice understanding person, I would not hold out much hope. & you will...
  23. have you double checked all your supplements for ingredients you could be reacting to? do you live in a house that is totally gluten-free? are you getting enough fat & protein & calories in your diet everyday? have you given up sodas, & artificial sweetners? maybe look for other food intolerances or a food allergy. Sleeping is...
  24. Wow, that is really amazing - you & your son deserve a huge round of applause. Those of us that do this everyday know how hard you have worked to achieve those results!!!!!!
  25. I am a big sweet potato fan - you can fry them like french fries, cut into cottage fries & sprinkle on oil & fresh chopped herbs & bake in the oven. also great baked serve with a touch of brown sugar - no butter necessary. Bake extra sweet potatoes refrigerate leftover ones - next day or two - peel the potato, slice into rounds, put in skillet...
