  1. Burger King and Sonic are places to be careful of the fries at. Both of the ones I have gone to use the same fryer for everything, from fries, to nuggets, to onion rings.
  2. I agree, sounds like diabetes, too. It is definitely worth having the blood sugar and insulin levels checked!
  3. I think straw is also cheaper, so the sponsor wouldn't have to pay as much.
  4. I think the weight is pre-cooking. I have given up on weighing and measuring my food portions. I use a smaller plate and bowl, and don't go back for seconds. I have a much easier time that way. Of course, my weightloss is slow, I average 1/2 lb a week. My new family doctor is delighted with that progress! The old one said it was too slow.
  5. My grandma told me that the more nutritious your flour is, the more the weevils like it. They don't care if it's wheat, corn, rice, or whatever.
  6. Rice, rice, rice!! Argh! I am allergic to rice, and I can honestly tell you that anaphlaxis is no fun! I guess I will have to stick to making my chocolate chip cookies out of chickpea flour with ground flax for egg substitute. And oreos were my favorite, I could eat a whole package of them and milk and nothing else and be happy all day!
  7. The biggest problem I can see would be cross-contamination. Do you know a stalk of hay or straw from a stalk of wheat? If you do, then no problem, just watch your kids. If you don't, make sure the kids know not to put anything in their mouths. If they want something to chew like the other kids, try giving them a plastic straw and letting them be city...
  8. I'm interested in hearing the results, too. I am really curious about the particles in her esophagus. I have never heard of anything like that before, and would like to know what the doc said about it.
  9. Please be careful here! I don't know if McDonald's serves onion rings, but other fastfood joints do, and they cook the rings in the same oil as the fries. At least, all of the ones I have been to do! Just remember to ask if the fries are done in a dedicated fryer!
  10. I am O-. I will have to learn more about the blood type diets. Someone once told me that Os need to eat more protein because they get anemic easily.
  11. Hmm...I guess I must be weird. I don't like the crust, so I make mine without it. I just put it in a pan, cook it, and eat it with a spoon. It still tastes good to me!
  12. Most companies will also produce the gluten-free stuff before the wheatful things, to limit cross-contamination. It is a possiblilty, though, and like celiac3270 says, it's a risk we take. Each of us needs to weigh the risks, and decide for ourselves if it is worth it. For instance, I eat Quaker oatmeal, even though there is a risk of field contamination...
  13. It will be easy. The worst thing was the numbing spray. That stuff tasted like spray paint smells, and I thought it was going to trigger an asthma attack. That is about all I remember. My endo was to look for ulcers, but the doc found inflammationa dn redness, so he biopsied it and found celiac. I had previously been diet-diagnosed. I have been gluten...
  14. Are they also rice and egg free? Can you post the ingredients list for us?
  15. MySuicidalTurtle is right: at holiday time, ingredients can change. Companies want to shake things up a bit and get consumers to buy their product, so the formulations are sometimes a little different. Just remember to always read the labels!
  16. I'm sitting here in southeast Kansas, near Pittsburg. I am a mom, too! I'd be happy to talk to you about this! You can post here on the board, send me a private message, or email me.
  17. Yep, Freya, it's because kids (and adults!) have a tendency to put things in their mouths. I make sure my lotions and soaps are gluten-free because I tend to lick my fingers when I eat, and I do it without thinking. Kids will eat things just because someone else dares them to, so being extra careful about things is a very good idea! (My son used to eat...
  18. Getting both of your kids tested would be a very good idea. Yes, symptoms can be intermittent. It just depends on how the gluten hits, and how the body reacts. Since celiac disease is genetic, getting the parents tested would also be a good idea.
  19. You were only gluten free for a few days before trying the wheat again, so chances are your system was not clear enough to show a reaction. Try going gluten free for six weeks, then try the wheat again. You have to give your body time to clear all gluten from your sustem before a dietary test will show anything. Your symptoms do sound like you could have...
  20. Wheat is a grass, too. The seed is a grain. The glue on the papers might have gluten in it. Honestly, if they are smoking it, I don't think they care that much!
  21. I have bad itch when I have a gluten accident. My skin gets dry and flaky, and just iiitttccchhheeesss!!! I use coco butter lotion, but the only thing that really helps is staying gluten free.
  22. 1a. I can have milk and chocolate, so I get way plenty of sweets b. I use herbs to make my foods savory. 2. I cannot have rice or eggs, so I pretty much do without all of these products unless I make them myself. 4. I don't mind paying a little bit more, but I don't understand why I should have to. These items can be made mainstream, in a factory, just...
  23. Yep, it sounds like it BIG TIME!! Poor baby! Tell your doctor you want the tests done immediately. There is no excuse for the testing process to be dragged out. Keep harping at your doctor, if you have to. Your son's health is at stake!
  24. If G.I. means gluten intolerant, the daignoses are pretty much the same. Even though they are techinically different, the end result is the same: no gluten whatsoever for the rest of his life. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
  25. The vinegar itself is glutenfree. Some people just have bad reactions to it. My younger sister cannot eat vinegar.
