ARCHIVED Help! Which Testing Option Is Most Accurate?
almostnrn posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am finally forcing the issue of celiac testing for my son and eventually my daughter. I have brought the issue up on several occasions to their doctors and they have dismissed me with stupid stuff like, they are growing well, they look healthy, blah, blah, blah. Well, my middle son has so many non-GI related symptoms I am at the point of flat out demanding... -
ARCHIVED Eye Aches Related To Gluten?
almostnrn replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Headaches are my first sign that I've eaten something with gluten in it. There have been times that it is in minutes of eating something. Generally it is a constant pain on the right side only but I do feel pain in my eye(s) as well. I used to take ibuprofen daily and chalked the constant headaches to stress, etc but as soon as I went gluten-free they... -
When my kids were really young and I couldn't calm them I would play classical music and it would truely soothe and calm them down within minutes. There was one exception...my middle son, Josh. He could be in the middle of the worst temper tantrum, screaming fit ever and as soon as he heard Cheryl Crowe "All I wanna do is have some fun" he would stop immediately...

ARCHIVED The Weekend From Hell
almostnrn replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so sorry you have had such a rough time. When something (or in this case lots of things) happen to your little ones it is just gut wrenching. Just try to remember that someday, years from now, you will be able to look back and say "do you remember when you did that?". I hope this week brings you calmer times! -

She will be in my thought and I am hoping all comes out well! -
Hi all, I'm not sure if anyone has heard of it but there is a new search engine called ChaCha. It works like Yahoo, Google with one exception, you may choose to do a search with a live guide. I saw a blurb on Good Morning America about it and decided to check it out. I am a guide for ChaCha and I have a few invitations for anyone who may be interested...

I have never had a rash on my inner thighs that has been DH but every person's DH is different. I too get it right on my pubic bone (although thankfully not anytime recently). Lots of things can cause rashes from iodine allergy to just cold weather and chapped skin. I hope you find an answer to your problem soon. It will take a little while if it is DH...

If you go to Foodtv.com Emeril has at least one seafood gumbo that is made without a roux. The one I saw was the episode with Jimmy Buffet and it looked wonderful. We have planned on making it here but I never seem to have the time or all the ingredients, lol. They shouldn't be hard to find on the site, usually the roux is the first thing listed.

Geez, I hope you are feeling better. There is just nothing worse than not being able to do what you want/plan because of this silly thing we all have. I just wanted to add a bit about the virus thing. I had it all of last week. It was never enough to completly lay me out but it did make me feel like I had been glutened really bad, I swear every symptom...

ARCHIVED Sandwich Meat

I love their products too, just be careful about the slicers. I got CC's once because the slicer had been used to cut something I couldn't eat and then they cut my turkey. It was as plain as day to me after I ate it (duh!!) but for some reason I stood right there at the deli and watched her slice away without asking her to clean it! -
Great article, thanks for posting!

Very interesting info! I haven't been able to drink milk in a long time and looking back it was most likely one of my first symptoms of celiac! I generally avoid most milk products but I do still eat chesse sometimes or use milk to cook with. I will have to watch that and track any small DH outbreaks I"m getting!

Me too!!! Thanks everyone. I can't even begin to explain how wonderful it is to eat really tasty food again, however all of this tasty food is making my jeans too tight!!!!

ARCHIVED Gluten Bingeing
almostnrn replied to beautifully-quiet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first year or so that I was diagnosed I did this from time to time. The first time it happened was after my second biopsy for DH. The dermatologists office called to give me the results and told me everything came back normal...Yippee I thought, I'm free. I proceeded to go out and eat a bunch of gluten filled food and BLAM the rash was back. Called... -

Yippee!!! I'm glad I could help this turn into something constructive! LOL!! I hope its ok to post stuff that I have from Clan Thompson, didn't really think about that until after the fact (whoops!). It was my big and coolest ever Christmas gift from my husband. A Palm with that loaded on it, now I am not always stuck guessing what is safe and what... -

I can explain from my point of view, not really sure how others view it. Say for instance I handle or use something on my skin that contains gluten. Blow my nose on some toilet paper, use gluten filled lotion, gluten filled hair products then run my hands through my hair, etc and then I pick up some food, stick my finger in my mouth that type of thing blam... -
ARCHIVED Does It Have To Be Gluten Related?
almostnrn replied to almostnrn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks for the info guys, I had NO IDEA it took that long to clear your system. I guess I shouldn' t gripe about a spot here and there, I know some people really struggle with controlling their DH but sometimes I swear one or two spots on a knee or elbow are worse than a bunch of them! -
ARCHIVED Cetaphil
almostnrn replied to almostnrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lynne Clan Thompson lists the following Lame Advertisement products as gluten free: Lame Advertisement Intelligence: Cleansing gel, daily moisturizing cream, hand cream and skin conditioning oil. I have read on here that a lot of people love these products but for some reason I break out every time I try them, lol, just my luck! I think I'm going to... -
I will definately try the sweet rice flour! Are there any special directions for using it. There are a couple of dishes that I have not made in sometime because I couldn't quite get the roux thing worked out and my kids would be extatic to see them return to the menu. As far as all of those yummy dishes our friend Drew is eating down in the big easy.....

According to the Clan Thompson list the following products are NOT gluten free: Angel Soft Toilet Paper, Brawny Paper Towels, Mardi Gras Napkins and Paper towels, Quilted Northern Toilet Paper, Soft and Gentle Toilet Paper, Brawny Paper Towels and Sparkle Paper towels. This is due to "trace amounts of gluten in glue used to hold paper together and in roll... -
ARCHIVED Does This Ever Happen To Seasoned Gluten-free People?
almostnrn replied to spunky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Happens here too, as a matter of fact I'm currently in a feeling not so great state. I drives me nuts when I can't figure out where or how it happened. I guess we just chalk it up to doing the best we can and enjoying those long strings of gluten free days and feeling well. -
I'm curious...sometimes I get a spot of DH here or there and it doesn't seem to be related to getting glutened. Are there other things that can trigger it? I have read about iodine. I have also asked my dermatologist and they don't have any idea. I actually had one dermatologist reccommend that I eat food with gluten so I could track how long it took...

Sounds like it could be. I get spots right under my eye or on the lid by my lashes and man they hurt. The only time I would call mine symmetrical is when I have had a steady stream of gluten over a peroid of time and needless to say I don't do that anymore. Mine is usually one on an elbow, one on a knee. The best way I can think to describe what it feels...

ARCHIVED Newly Pregnant And Emotional
almostnrn replied to ElizabethN's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Congratulations and good luck on your pregnancy! I don't have much to offer on morning sickness because I was fortunate enough not to suffer from it, I would just get dizzy and occassionally a little queasy. If you find that you are feeling bad the one thing that always made me feel great was exercise. I hope things go well for you and hopefully the emotions... -
ARCHIVED Cetaphil

Thank you for all the wonderful info everyone! I wonder why the response was different from Cetaphil Canada and the one here in the states...I must be very paranoid but that stuff just freaks me out. How can I trust them if they can't even get their story straight!!! Teamworkjr, maybe you can find that Kiss My Face soap locally. Its cheap and even...
