ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do
super-sally888 replied to Swthrtpookie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry, me again. Am a bit disjointed tonight. Depression (not saying that you have it) can also be affected if your thryoid meds are not right. My stomach issues were also much when my thyroid was out and I needed to increase the meds.... just an ideas. S -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do
super-sally888 replied to Swthrtpookie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IBS = I'm Bl**&y Stupid. I don't know what's wrong with you and I can't be bothered finding out. IBS is the waste basket for any stomach problems that a dr. doesn't know the cause. Don't accept IBS as a diagnosis! Really! -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do
super-sally888 replied to Swthrtpookie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I had all the similar symptoms as you. Including unexplained joint pain. And I was obese. Six years ago I was told I had IBS and just decided I had to live with everything. And my thyroid continued to get worse over the years and still not feeling great (even aside from stomach issues).. even though I managed to get my weight down a reasonable... -
ARCHIVED Cramping - Any Advice
super-sally888 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Everyone, Am having problems with cramping at the moment - much worse than usual. This particularly affects my feet, and sometimes calves. It is partly exercise related: particularly happens if I swim (did a short swim last night, got out of the pool and was cramping for about 1/2 an hour afterwards - feet turned into agonising lumps of concrete... -
ARCHIVED Marathon Running, Training, Gluten-free
super-sally888 replied to MarathonGirl's topic in Sports and Fitness
Hi, I just finished my first Ironman race. I only managed to get the tummy stuff under control half way through the training.... cause my team mates told me if I don't work out why I was "sh####ing" all the time, I would be in big trouble. Though I couldn't get testing done, the symptoms did mostly resolve with gluten free diet - so I guess I got my... -
Hi Gals and Guys, I'm back. I survived. I finished in 16hr 46 mins, 31 secs (just 13.5 mins spare). The run was the toughest. Actually, the whole thing was hard. Below is my experience write up - in case anyone is interested (sorry long). A bit busy catching up with work after 9 days off, but will keep popping in here to see what's happening and...

ARCHIVED Colonoscopy
super-sally888 replied to January Flower's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, It is not so bad. I did it without any sedation at all (don't like meds if I can help, was by myself, and had to go to work after). It was not comfortable - the worst part was the air that they pump in so that everything opens up for them to inspect) so it was like the worst case of bloat ever - but was bearable and so soon as the air started coming... -
ARCHIVED Off To Do My First Ironman Race
super-sally888 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I am going to Malaysia on Monday. Will be there to do my first IronMan triathlon which will be held in Langkawi on 24th Feb. This is going to be hard and a huge challenge. I have been training for more than 6 months (doing triathlon since mid 2004). I will be doing my best to finish in the 17 hour cutoff. Maybe not such a huge thing... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Doctors..help! Is My Daughter Celiac?
super-sally888 replied to stepfordwive's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I agree with all the other posters. Just to add. There is nothing unhealthy about a gluten free diet! You do not need any doctor's permission to put your child on it. Try it. YOu have nothing to lose. Considering that you are celiac, there is a very high chance that your child is. Trust your instincts on this one. Take Care. Sally -
ARCHIVED My Friends Results
super-sally888 replied to georgie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, If your friend had a colonoscopy, that would tell nothing, because the colon is not where the characteristic damage from celiac occurs. It occurs in the small intestine, not the large intestine, which is what is checked with the colonoscopy. Even if she got mixed up and meant endoscopy not colonoscopy, it is possible to have negative results becuase... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Dx Advice
super-sally888 replied to VW1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi - Glad you are seeing some benefit from the diet changes. Sounds like you are doing really well with 'healthy' diet. Actually, the gluten free diet is very healthy - particularly if you eat natural whole foods rather than relying on gluten substitutes (and especially if you don't tolerate gluten). So actually, if you don't care so much about... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid (hypothyroidism)
super-sally888 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For people being treated for hypothyroid, the target TSH is at the lower end of the range. I have read that women, to feel good, should have their TSH less than 2.0. For me, my target (and to feel ok) is less than 1.0. But they also check FT3 and FT4 - which should both be at the top of the normal range. Did your doctor test anything other than TSH... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Severe Gas
super-sally888 replied to arch8's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I am reading a book at the moment about food allergies / intollerances. It says that the most common intollerances / allergies are to gluten/wheat, dairy, soy, sugar, corn, peanuts, and eggs and that these may be best to start with for a not so strict elimination diet. They also recommend that you eliminate anything that you eat all the time... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
super-sally888 replied to Poohbeck's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, what you experienced is pretty normal. In some people the damage will be visible with the naked eye. But for most, it only shows up from the biopsy. Some people, the biopsy may not show positive, because it will depend where they took the biopsies from. Now you can also try the diet. Sometimes that is the best indicator of whether you need to... -
ARCHIVED Absorption Problems With Calcium And Vitamin D
super-sally888 replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Have they checked your parathyroid function? This is tested by testing for Intact PTH (intact parathyroid hormone). Sometimes the parathyroids are damaged when they remove the thyroid. If your parathyroids are damaged then the problem is with the hormone that regulates the uptake/production of Vitamin D and the absorption of calcium - rather... -
Hi, Maybe you should go see your Dr and get checked out / or even to the ER if it doesn't improve soon. This could be something completely else from gluten.... the back pain could be something different; kidney stones or kidney infection (I can quickly think of) - which doesn't always have classic symptoms. Particularly given the slurred speech and...

ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Constipation...
super-sally888 replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, if not one then the other. Am also suffering today. Exercise doesn't make a difference for me. Strong coffee helps - but not the last two days. Drinking heaps of water helps. Will try that later. Don't like fibre supplements. They make me feel unwell. Fruits and veges seem not to help... Hmmm... Guess we are all different in what works. -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Getting Worse
super-sally888 replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I don't know what the situation for Children is in terms of the lab work - I guess they would be as applicable for children as for adults (else they would put a different range, based on age). Have you seen a pediatric endocrinologist? I would have thought that good thyroid function is even more critical for children as they need thyroid hormones... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency
super-sally888 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I was never tested for Vit D levels, but my calcium levels are often too low. They did look at parathyroid function way back, and it was out. The treatment of calcitriol (biologically active vitamin D) - not the one you get in regular vit tablets, which is the precursor of the active Vit D (they assume your body will convert it to vit D - and... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Getting Worse
super-sally888 replied to super-sally888's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, maybe the thryoid getting worse has nothing to do with the diet. I don't see why it would. The diet is actually pretty healthy if you stick with natural foods. My thyroid is just getting worse over time.... Her labs even before the diet were not so good. TSH for people with hypothyroid should be 1.0 or slightly less (or at the bottom of the normal... -
ARCHIVED I Love Bananas
super-sally888 replied to ReneCox's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, Reading this train made me hungry! I had two bananas sitting next to my desk - supposed to be for later and couldn't resist - ate them now! For choc dipped bananas try freezing the bananas before you dip them in chocolate. The chocolate will harden immediatey and no drips. I love fresh banana as a side to curry / or a meat dish. Sometimes... -
Hi, Have now been confirmed with Athma from the spirometry testing. IGE serum test was high, so I guess we are going into skin testing next. Will see the new allergy dr. for the second time soon - to discuss management of both. At least I know I am not imagining things when it is backed by objective testing! Major D and tummy pain today. Don...

Hi, I haven't actually used any protein supplement recently, so I can't answer your question. But can I ask why you want to use protein? Even body builders only need about 2 g of protein / kg of body weight. Any excess will only be wasted. Most people can get all the protein they need from eating meat, eggs, nuts, and other real foods. As a guideline...

ARCHIVED Anyone In Hong Kong Or Malaysia
super-sally888 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi - hope I can ask this here.... Anyone here in Malaysia or Hong Kong with Hypothyroid and taking cytomel / Armor? I am in Philippines and can only get artificial T4 (I got my last armor from Australia - but don't go there often). I do however, travel regularly to Hong Kong and Malaysia. If you have an info, could you let me know who your Dr. is...
