  1. Hi, This will get easier. Just hang in there. And he will start feeling better. A good place to start for the diet is not to worry about all the replacement foods. Just stick with naturally gluten free foods: ie fruits, vegetables, meats, rice, nuts, eggs (he may or may not be able to take dairy - particularly while he is still recovering). Plenty...
  2. Hi Ursula - thanks for your input, I ordered enterolab celiac full panel today. It is expensive! But worth it to know if I am on the right track. I know I'll get the package ok by courier, I guess. I hope I can send it out ok from Phils. I guess they know it will be ok or they wouldn't allow international clients... Me just being paranoid......
  3. Hi - you're not crazy. I can also get hyperacidity, nausea and feeling ill just from a smell of something.... Sally
  4. Ursula, Thanks. Wow, I didn't even bother looking up enterolab, assuming it is just for US. Ok - will check out and see how expensive and if it is feasible. At least I would know - for my own purposes! Fingers crossed the rice and eggs are ok... else things will be really limited.... Fiddle-Faddle. Thanks for your input. No soy sauce for...
  5. Hi, I have had two endoscopies without anaesthesia and while it wasn't terribly comfortable it was pretty ok. While no procedure should be taken lightly, this one is pretty straightforward, particularly in the hands of an EXPERIENCED Dr. The Anaesthesia is probably more of a risk than the endoscopy.... Probably they want to do it to make sure there...
  6. Hi Chrissy & Ursula, Thanks for your responses. Yes, I think I shall have to do an elimination diet. I think I will start with the most obvious suspects and avoid; all processed/colored junk foods/candy, gluten, dairy (except eggs), soy, seafood. This is so I can still have enough choice of foods (meats, fruit, vegetables, rice). I think one...
  7. Finally saw my dr. today - about 5 weeks late. The test results only showed IBD (chronic inflammation) - which he also saw in the endoscopy, but only showed in the biopsy from the colonoscopy. He said the IBD could be treated with antibiotics in case it is caused by bacteria. They didn't see bacteria or amoeba with the biopsy. He said at least anything...
  8. Hi Ron, Sorry this is a bit long... I was diagnosed with Thryoid well before (about 6 years ago) I suspected a problem with Gluten (just the last month). Though I have had stomach issues all along (hyperacidity, C&D, Nausea, reflux etc etc... was diagnosed with IBS and just tried to ignore it - because after all IBS is caused by "stress" and is...
  9. Hi, Just another word on thyroid. It is possible to be hypothyroid, even if the test results come back 'normal' - particularly early on. You need to find a dr. that would look at the whole picture, not just blood test results. They also need to test antibodies, FT3 and FT4, not just TSH. I had every symptom in the book for hypo (depression, fatigue...
  10. Hi The One, If you are feeling sick eating gluten please get back on the gluten free diet. You don't have to wait for any doctor to tell you that! Remember ultimately you are responsible for your health, not a doctor. A good doctor is just your guide (cause of his/her knowledge) and partner.... Get off the gluten and maybe all these other things that...
  11. Hi, Is this all of a sudden to feel this bad? Maybe you got a virus or a flu coming on..... unless this is how you normally react to gluten. Have you had your thyroid checked? Your symptoms could be from that - though not usual for it to happen all of a sudden. Or could you be pregnant? (sorry, I don't know if you are man or woman from...
  12. Hi Sonya, listen to your body. Your tests may still show something (the biopsies may show celiac or inflamation). My dr. said the endoscopy looked fine. But the biopsy showed chronic inflamation - don't know what he will make of that - haven't managed to get back to see him. But the big thing will be how you feel. That will make up for everything...
  13. Hi Art, Yeah, my friends are Filipino. I am an Australian living in Philippines - Manila. Have been here for 9 years. Have my own bakarda (gang) here. Sally
  14. Hi all, I am self diagnosed (still haven't got back for my dr. followup apt that was due 2 weeks ago - he was awol on 1 apt. and I have been out of town and couldn't make another and something else next week too... though he suspected celiac and definitely something wrong from the tests - though he did not do not the right tests for celiac.). Anyway...
  15. Hi, what do you mean by your immune system is in overdrive? Interesting - I suspect Hep B shots may have been contributor to this too - that is only thing really different that I have had that my identical twin sister hasn't - and she doesn't have celiac problems..... Everything should settle down with the right diet. Hang in there! Sally
  16. Hi, the interesting thing is that he was diagnosed with bloodwork and was positive for gluten intolerance and some other food intolerances (caesin, and something else). After the treatment he no longer tested positive for anything. This sister is very sensible and in touch with her son, including nuances of behaviour... and is watching him very closely...
  17. Hi, I alternate between C and D.... C for a few days to a week, then D, then back again. Am not formally diagnosed thought the colonoscopy biospsy found chronic inflammation (dr. didn't check the right things to test for celiac). However, diet seems to be helping some (WHEN I manage to get it right - seem to be doing a pretty good job of getting glutened...
  18. Oh yes! My sister's son 6 yo son was diagnosed along with celiac with numerous other food intollerances (very symptomatic, anaemia, and behavioral difficulties). He saw a chiropractor and kinesiologist and according to my sister he is ok now and can tolerate the foods he couldn't before.... he really is like a new child.... So maybe there is something...
  19. Hi Again. Actually there is a lot we can eat. Just we have to be aware of what ingredients are. For me, the following are ok:- eggs, meat, nuts, all veges, all fruits - fresh and dried, rice (I get various types - white, brown, red, black, wild - particularly like a mixture of red, black and brown. I cook a big pot and leave it in the fridge...
  20. hi, i am an Australian in the Philippines. Am finally finding what was wrong. Avoiding gluten is easier in Asia where rice is the staple. I stick to basic foods. Can't usually find gluten free substitutes for standard products here. Gluten free soy is not so commonly available. No beer! Wine is a good substitute. This is indeed a learning process. Am...
  21. Hi - Hemorrhoids are a likely explanation. But please go see your doctor and ask him/her to check it out. Bleeding is not normal, even with celiac and means that something has changed, that shouldn't have. Any bleeding and / or any change from whatever is normal for you should always be checked. Travelling to Africa must be interesting!...
  22. Thanks Ursula and Tiffany, You guys all have great input. I don't cook much and eat out or at my friends houses nearly every day (I am single despite my advanced age of 36 , work full-time and also part of a very active triathlon training / events organisation group (my night job!)). Eating in is not a very practical option (I only sleep...
  23. Hi, Don't know where I am supposed to post this. Maybe a stupid question. Is starch = wheat? Was eating something last night that I assumed was ok. Belatedly looked in detail at the label and it said "Starch". This was an asian food product. Would I assume wheat? I thought was going ok... but not so..... And can't tell if it was that or something...
  24. Three weeks into gluten free (though not completely apparently... am itching today - and don't know what caused it)... and 7 lbs down! Happy! Only 10 or so more to go. This is the first time in years I have actually managed to lose weight! Sally
  25. Hi and Welcome, You have come to a good place. It is possible that you and your daughter have celiac. Though it could possibly also be a reaction to something else in the foods. Diagnosis is not necessarily easy. For some people a blood test will give clear results, and others not. However, a very surefire diagnosis is the use of an elimination...
