Many people who have red hair are of Irish descent. Celiac also ties into Irish heritage/genes. I guess that would be about the only correlation. As far as i know
Good observation though.

I spy Tarnalberry, Ursula, TCA, Kibbie and Plantime helping out Rook's Mommy in this thread: Open Original Shared Link
Way to go ladies!! Thanks for making the board a helpful place to come.

Just curious how the birthday party went. What did you end up doing to handle the fountain? Find any gluten-free chocolate for it?

Peta, if your post hasn't been pinned yet, then you must have done something wrong. We have enough moderators that there is no way it would take remotely as long as even ten hours, never mind 18.
Actually it did......she had posted it at like 2something AM and I JUST pinned it at 10pm. Peta you didn't do a thing wrong
Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle

Glad you said that.... because I feel like a pest.
I thought I would just add to this post rather than start a new one because my question is the same?
I tried to post last night and yet my post has showed up nowhere? How long does it take to be 'pinned' because I wrote the post about 18 hours ago. Does it usually take that long?
I am not nagging as I know you are all very busy people I am just asking because I am worried that I have done something wrong and perhaps I'm not posting right??
If it's just a matter of allowing a bit more time for it to be pinned then that's fine...just wanted to know!
Peta
Looks like it had just gotten missed in the shuffle. I have pinned your topic and you can find it here: Open Original Shared Link
Weekends are a bit slower because alot of the folks take time off to be with their families and sleep in and such
Not as many people on board to help.

The other day I was craving nachos like crazy, so I got some tostitos, all the stuff to make chili and some cheese and made myself some awesome nachos!
Cupakes!!! Right now I am craving namaste chocolate cake mix with Pillsbury vanilla frosting.
Mmmm Chili with tons of cheese sounds awesome today. It has been snowing most of the day and it's soooo cold. Maybe tomorrow I will make chili to warm me up!! Good idea.

Yum Sounds good!! I'll have to try it out sometime soon.

Jess-Excuse my lack of terms I could not find my actual copy but I know the most important parts, and I am not the most domestic person either
1 package of Tinkyada spaghetti
1 bottle of Italian dressing (I use Wegmans brand but whatever your favorite is will work)
1 package of boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or chicken stir-fry)
Preheat oven to 425
Cut chicken into strips or small pieces (depending on preference)
In a baking pan(I use the large rectangular pan) put cut chicken
Put in Italian dressing until the chicken is almost submerged in the dressing (dressing must at least coat
bottom of pan)
Put into Oven Cook for 30 minutes or until chicken is a golden brown
Meanwhile
Boil water for pasta
Cook pasta
Rinse and drain
When chicken is finished remove from oven
Mix in pasta
Allow to sit a few minutes to soak up juice
Enjoy!
Feel free to PM me with any questions.
I got to share this recipe with the public in August of 2005. I was at the Wayne County Fair in PA, a family tradition. I was walking past a booth for The Weekly Almanac, a paper in the Honesdale area. The gentlemen in the booth asked me if I had any homemade recipes I wouldn't mind sharing for the upcoming edition of the paper. I sat down and scribbled my Chicken Scampi on a piece of napkin. It was published a week later. I have a copy somewhere.
I have been making this for years. I learned in high school in Speech Communications only the recipe was slightly different. I altered it to my own tastes and have been making it ever since.

Fruit Salad as mentioned above, I let mine soak in Cherry Juice, I do apples, pears, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and cherries. I dump the cherry juice over it and mix.
gluten-free Brownies
Chicken Scampi I am trying to find the recipe.
Did you find your recipe for the Chicken Scampi? Sounds good!!

Jessica, this is a good thread. Thank you for starting this.
I don't intend to be about me, we all can do these things.
Have you ever been behind a low income person, buying a loaf of bread and a package of sandwich meat in a grocery line. They put back the meat because of lack of funds. I paid for the man's sandwich meat. It cost me almost nothing and he would not be hungry.
There is an older Viet Nam Vet, in a wheel chair, who hangs around a convenience store here. When I go there, I buy him a cup of coffee. I don't know his name and he quietly tells me thanks.
These are simple gestures on our part, but, they can mean so much to others.
We hosted a foreign exchange student so she could experience this part of the world. THAT gesture will NOT be repeated.
MommaGoose........sounds like you have quite the heart. Thanks for sharing. Sure does remind us all that it doesn't take much to make someone elses day!
Example........caught two young ladies on this board making my day lately. Happygirl and Jayhawkmom have both sent me the nicest PM's in the last week or so. Sometimes it is sure nice to open my messages to some nice friendly messages. Being a moderator they are usually reported posts ha. They probably had no idea that they made my day just by sending me a short note

A random act of kindness? My neighbor came over one afternoon and tested the wiring in my Bronco to see which one needed to be replaced.
My daughter fixed me some lunch when I wasn't feeling well.
That's sweet of them. However, I'm trying to find things here on the board that are nice that folks are doing
Keep your eyes peeled for happenings here on the board. We sure could use some happy/nice things around here.

Next week in my classroom marks the 100th day of school. This is a huge deal to little ones. For part of our celebration we will kick off a random acts of kindness campaign. I am challenging my kids to do 100 (note 100th day of school , here is the tie in
) random acts of kindness. I am hoping that we well exceed our goal of 100!! The things they do will go on a heart and be put on our classroom door for all to see (and hopefully inspire).
Random acts of kindness week is Feb. 12th -18th. (yes we are getting an early start)
I have noticed, as many of us have, that the morale of the board is kinda ugly lately. I would like to turn that around. Post your stories of kindness. Has someone here helped you? What have you caught someone doing that was great? Let's share some positives!!

HI, Has anyone seen this and is it worth the money?
CSA Gluten-Free Product Listing-11th Edition-w/binder the link is
Open Original Shared Link
Nicole
I think that is an awesome product for people who are starting out newly on the diet. It gives them a great idea as to what they can look for in the stores. When I was first diagnosed I got the CSA book and I think it gave me "hope". It showed me there were still foods to eat. I would highly recommend it to a newbie for a guide. If you have been on the diet a while, it probably wouldn't be as useful.

To make things like greenbean caserole. Here is a quick version of mushroom soup that I make. It is SUPER easy!
I took a large can (similar to reg. soup can) of mushroom pieces... poured the juice into a pan. I used my pampered chef food chopper and diced up the mushroom pieces into super fine (food processor would also work) and mixed until it was a glob of pureed mushrooms then thinned slightly with some milk. Warmed the mixture and added a bit of cornstarch to thicken. I've used this in gravies or sauces that normally call for a can of cream of mushroom soup and it works just as well. Season with some salt and pepper.....diced onion also adds a nice flavor.

Edy's has introduced five new light ice cream flavors in partnership with American Idol - customers can vote for the one they like the best and the winner becomes a permanent flavor. Despite the name, the Take the Cake flavor is gluten free - it's yellow cake-flavored light ice cream with frosting swirl and multi-colored sprinkles. The Triple Talent and Choc N'Roll Caramel flavors also are gluten-free.
Here's the link for Take the Cake:

Thanks for sharing.........I actually saw those at the store today and walked right past because it had the word cake on it
Just assumed it wasn't for me. Now I'll have to try some

Yep, that has been going on for a while now. I do believe, however, that you can ask them to use fresh eggs and not their omlet "mix" to make an omlet for you. However, I would also be afraid of the cross contamination in a place like IHOP. Too much flour flying and chances to become sick.
Thanks for posting that. Always good to refresh people's memory.

Hi,My name is Stephanie, and I just decided to join today. I won't go into my lifelong struggles with celiac, but I sure wish doctors would have discovered it sooner. I had so many symptoms pointing right at it, and no one thought to check for it. I even had a doctor this past year tell me I was probably making everything up in my head because I was so stressed out and didn't want to deal with my real problems...I switched doctors.
Anyway, I was diagnosed with celiac disease right before Thanksgiving (which was hard because I hated watching everyone eat food I was allowed to eat just the week before). The doctor said he knew before he even took the biopsy that it would test positive (all the villi was gone). No one around me really knows about this disease or understands it. I just got married, and even my husband thinks I'm over-reacting when I tell him I can't have just one bite of something he made or wants me to try. It's really hard sometimes to deal with this disease in a society that is so focused on food. Sometimes I'll just watch people eat and think how normal they are and wonder why I can't be normal. I have 3 siblings, and they are all fine. I also have another autoimmune disease, sarcoidosis. It's also not widely known about, at least in my area. I feel like my body just does nothing but fight itself. As soon as I get back on my feet, I'm down again with something else.
I hope as I learn more of what I can eat these feeling will go away and I'll start to feel normal again.
Anyway, back to my intro. I live in Indiana, but it's so cold here I plan to move to Texas someday!
Oh yeah, and in a couple of weeks I'll be 24!

I never really introduced myself to the forum. I "lurked" for a few weeks and then joined but I'm not the kind of person to walk into an unfamiliar situation and just step up and announce "Hi, I'm...." I didn't know how a forum worked and had gotten used to figuring things out myself, which includes my Celiac. Plus I was having problems with memory, processing and concentration. On top of that I never learned how to type so it really slows me down and limits what I can say. I wanted to come back and introduce myself properly because I've hit a new level of healing at six months into this. Yeah! I've still got more to do and possibly other issues with food. But, thank you all for you help for myself and for others. I've learned alot from this board that goes beyond Celiac. It's kind of one stop shopping here sometimes
When I'm up to it and if I can find it again, maybe I'lll add my story to the "What's your Story" thread.
Never too late to say hi!! Welcome

I was floored when they were discussing the "canola oil" and the bakery girl didn't know what it was made of, and Martha just kept going on and on and finally the bakery girl said "Can we just move on?" I'm like WHAT? NOBODY says that to queen Martha! LMAO!
I was busting a gut when she said that lol.........I missed the part where they looked it up and decided on the canola bean......had to get to the dr lol Too funny.......they should have her on everyday and I actually might watch that show ha
This chick is like the gluten free Rachel Ray........she needs her own cooking show. Somebody call Oprah to hook up Erin McKenna with her own show!! It would be great.

I got to watch part of the segment. I saw them mixing up the brownie cuppeycake things. I was cracking up watching martha stumble to pronounce some of the words (xantham gum, celiac (silly yak)) just made me laugh.
The girl from the bakery was funny. Very bubbley and I think she really did a good presentation. She kept it "not too serious" and showed people that our food CAN be good. I loved when they were talking about arrowroot flour and she said it was made from arrows
I hope you feel better soon!Hugs.
Karen
Thanks.....Dr. thought it was Strep, however strep test came back neg. (thank goodness). It's never a good sign when they look down your throat and make one of those faces
like eww gross! ha Put me on antibiotics anyways....said maybe sinus...maybe who knows ha Dr's orders to rest....so off I go
-Jessica

You are all comming up with some GREAT craving foods............nice!
I had to cave in and go buy my rice pudding to go with my peanutbutter chocolate chip cookies. I'm home sick today
I had to go buy 7-up so I figured why not lol Nothing else sounds good to eat anyways.........darn sinus infections.
On the subject of little smokies and the msg questions. MSG isn't a problem in terms of gluten. It is gluten free, however many people avoid it for other reasons. Hillshire farms little smokies are great and gluten free. AWESOME when put into the crock pot with a bottle of sweet baby ray's bbq sauce mmm
After bronco's suggestion of the chili and somebody elses nacho craving. I am now craving chili cheese tater tots. Make the tater tots or fries......top with chili and then cheese mmmmm Geesh people!

Has anybody called Kraft and asked specifically about Planter's nuts and Crystal Light? I know that some folks who thought both might indeed have wheat and who don't trust Kraft's gluten-free statement were saying they were going to check.
richard
I'm not one who doubts Kraft. I did e-mail them, to which I recieved the statement that we have all come to know and love
(ok not ALL ) I'll post the e-mail I got from them.
Hi Jessica,Thank you for visiting Open Original Shared Link.
We understand how important it is for people who have been medically diagnosed with gluten sensitivity to have accurate information about foods to help plan their meals and diets. Therefore, it has been a long standing policy for all Kraft and Nabisco products to list ingredients that contain gluten on the ingredient statement. These items will be listed using commonly known terms such as Wheat, Barley, Oats or Rye. For other ingredients that contain gluten, the grain source will be declared in parenthesis after the ingredient name. For example, if the ingredient "natural flavor" contains a gluten source, the label would read: natural flavor (contains rye). Other ingredients that contain gluten are: Triticale, Spelt, Kamut, Mir or Farina (also known as Far or Farro).
For Kraft-branded products that contain vinegar, information from our vinegar suppliers assures us that the vinegar we use in our products is gluten free. All vinegar is distilled and through the distilling process protein gluten is removed.
If you would like additional information or to view our Gluten Fact Sheet please visit our website, www.kraftfoods.com and type gluten in the "Search Kraft" box.
I hope this assists you in making food choices that are appropriate for your personal needs. If you have additional questions about your personal dietary needs, please consult your doctor or a registered dietician.
Thank you for contacting us and please add our site to your favorites and visit us again soon!

Currently craving the brownie cake that I just made (to take to school tomorrow). I'm about 95% sure that it will NOT make it to school tomorrow in it's whole form. It will probably end up with me putting some pieces on a pretty plate and taking it to school. Tricking the people to think I wanted to make it look pretty and presentable on my nice plate. When in reality, I just wanted to dig into that cake!! ha I couldn't possibly take it in the pan with a piece gone
Shame shame........
So moral to the story is.......when food is on a fancy plate most likely the people could not wait to eat it, cut into it and HAD to put it on the fancy plate to save face and not look like a piggey
