  1. I can tell you, however, it is not considered an associated disease of Celiac..... hardly anyone with Lupus gets celiac disease or visa versa. studies have been done..... so your gluten-free diet or lack of it is not related to Lupus.

I am curious where your research comes from on this, It is on every major list associated with Celiac that lupus is a disease associated with Celiacs.

Among celiacs and their relatives, there appears to be a higher incidence of other disorders related to the immune system. A partial listing of these includes insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type I), Graves' disease, Addison's disease, scleroderma, chronic active hepatitis, myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus , and Sjogren's syndrome.
I personally have a family memeber who died from Lupus. I am just wondering if you can point me in the direction of where you got your info...I would love to read it. Thanks.

  2. Open Original Shared Link offers a gluten free selection of frozen dinners. It is clearly marked on the boxes "Gluten Free". They are really good, but sort of expensive (such as with anything that is gluten free). I LOVE their cheese enchiladas and the cheese pizza. I fry some hamburger, onions, green peppers and top the pizza with that and some extra cheese YUM! All the frozen dinners are good.

  3. I really hate to keep harping on this....but these are the rules of the board, and if you can not follow them, then Scott will take care of the situation.

There are people who insist on posting the very same information in 12 different places. This clutters up the board and it is against the rules. So plain and simply don't do it .

    Thanks.

  4. I have my own house so it really makes things easy as far as food goes. I don't have roomates to contaminate anything. I am a great cook so cooking is a breeze, the only trouble I have is finding the time to cook. I have a SUPER busy semester right now and hardly any time to cook. What I attempt to do is cook on sunday and monday and then eat leftovers the rest of the week. I also have meals in the freezer that I can just pull out and heat up (put leftovers in glad or ziploc containers, label, date and freeze).

If you are thinking of living in the dorms, go and talk to the person in charge of the food program and explain to them your situation. They MUST work with you. Celiac disease is covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. They have to provide adequate food for you.

You have pleanty of time to figure out all your questions. Great idea to get a head start on them now so you aren't rushing around to find answers later.

    Best of luck.

  5. ALSO.....if you don't get a post under your topic. Please do not go and make an identical post about the same topic AGAIN. Just try adding something to your origional post to call attention to it.

I know recently there have been a few folks not getting responses so they just keep Re-posting the same info. in all different places. That just makes the board a mess and takes our time to clean it up. Thanks.

  6. I actually lost a BF during my diagnosis process. He couldn't deal with all that I was going through testing, being sick, etc etc (among other things ha) He had no clue how to take care of someone who was sick so he just bailed. Before I got sick we had talked about long term (the ring, the life etc).

I think I am FAR better off without him. I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life with someone who is not nurturing and caring and willing to accept whatever life gives us.

So....be THANKFUL she left. It was probably best. If she can't deal with things now, she wouldn't be good with dealing with life's other problems either.

  7. I know that once every so often (like once every few years) I will bear the bloating and discomfort for a slice of pizza, mind you only one slice...others would not do this, but I have to for my sanity...anyone else out there feel this way?

Personally I work too hard at this lifestyle to ruin it with cheating. It isn't worth being sick. It isn't worth getting cancer, infertility, lupus, seizures, diabetes or any of the other ugly things that you can get by cheating!! It isn't even worth the simple bout of diarrhea or a headache. You can prevent those things by just NOT doing it!!

Why why why punnish your body in that manner? <_< Makes no sense to me. I guess to each their own. I know I have spent too much of my life sick and I don't care to go back. I am feeling too good now and loving life again.

  8. Here is the letter that I use when I write to companies to find out the gluten status of things. I thought it might help some of the newbies out there who are just beginning their research.

    -Jessica

The letter comes from this site: Open Original Shared Link

    Dear ,

I have celiac disease and am unable to eat foods with gluten in them. Gluten can be found in wheat, rye, barley and oats and their byproducts. Celiacs do not have problems with corn, rice, tapioca or potatoes. Can you list for me foods that you make which are gluten free? Things to look out for and consider are foods containing any kind of:

whole grain wheat, rye, barley or oats

regular flour (white, unbleached or whole wheat)

    rye flour

    oats or oat flour

    malt

I also need to be concerned about ingredients which may have a variety of sources, like:

modified food starch (can your supply come from wheat, rye, barley or oats?)

natural flavors (if HVP is included it may come from toxic grains)

spices (which often use flour as an anti-caking agent without listing the flour)

vinegar (if its source is one of the forbidden grains, we prefer to avoid it)

    alcohol (same as vinegar)

    caramel coloring

Finally, another concern is the environment in which the food is manufactured and packaged. We need to know if a food is produced on the same line as any other item which contains any of the above problem foods, since even trace amounts of gluten damage a celiac's body, and cross-contamination would be an issue in this situation.

Thank you in advance for your careful research of these issues, and I look forward to hearing from you!!

    Sincerely-

  9. I eat reeses pieces all the time. I have never had any trouble with them, and I am very sensitive to any ingestion of gluten. Possibly your kiddo had a reaction to the dyes used in the coatings. I would re-read the label and see what ingredients are new to him within the product. Do some detective work and see what you come up with.

Also along the lines of peanut allergies, it could STILL be a possability that the peanuts were the culprit. With that sort of allergy you can have it, and not react for quite some time, and then have a severe reaction. When you keep eating the nuts your body sort of weakens each time you eat them and finally you will just react. You might want to have him tested for nut allergies. Just a thought.

  10. Rich Gannon the football player has a daughter with Celiac. He does quite a few publicity things for the disease. You may have heard of Danielle's Decadent chocolate cake mix, it is named after his daughter.

Also Elizabeth Hasselback, new co-host on "The View" talkshow and also a Survivor contestant is possibly a Celiac. She has mentioned several things on air that lead people to believe that she is.
