  1. I generally stay away from restaurants and other peoples kitchens. But -- I like to have the option of eating out. I live in South OC and was wondering of there are others who have had successful meals out at specific locations with some of these local chains. I have eaten at Pei Wei's in Lake Forest and have never gotten sick. (YAY). I have eaten...
  2. I recently had some M&Ms and got sick from them too. I tried them a couple of times...and had a bad reaction each time. I was thinking it was the milk -- Could it be the dairy for you?
  3. Has anyone baked with Smart Balance -- the one in the tub? I wanted to make the apple crisps, and maybe some other stuff, but need to be dairy free. I use Smart Balance, but I have never baked with it, it does seem to take longer to melt than regular butter.
  4. That ham just got added to my "What I need to bring for Christmas" list. I was hoping it was gluten free too. Is it the ham in the red and gold foil? I would hope that they are the same at all Costco's.
  5. It's a tough one. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law both want to cook for me all the time, and are willing to go out of their way to do so. My sister in-law last night was just asking me how she can make a gluten-free meal for Christmas Eve, and I simply told her that it wasn't possible. That my house is gluten-free, my pans, plastic containers are new...
  6. Has anyone checked into whatever gluey stuff they use to seal foods like yogurt, salsas, those foamy seal on BBQ sauces, or ketchup, etc. I have often wondered and tend to stay away from the edges.... see how paranoid this disease can make you? And how do they seal those bags of candy, like M & Ms? ~
  7. I like Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty gluten-free Hot Cereal too, and I like to add Quinoa flakes, since they are so good for you and a good source of fiber. I stopped eating it for a long time because I got sick a time or two, but soon realized it was the bananas... too bad, I really like it with banana and raisins and brown sugar.
  8. I am self-diagnosed -- I had a positive blood test and negative biopsy. It took me 6 months to get my biopsy and I was gluten free during that whole time. I felt better immediately after eliminating gluten from my diet. My GI told me that I could be gluten free and that wouldn't affect the endoscopy By the time I figured out he didn't know what he...
  9. I too always carry food with me. It's a hassle, but starving at the end of a long day is horrible. My son had water polo championship games all weekend and I was even able to sqeeze in a ballet that I have season tickets for. So, I packed two apples, two Lara bars, banana, bottle of mineral water, and a pre-cooked chicken breast. That got me through one...
  10. I have been gluten-free for about a year now... and this summer I finally gave up dairy completely. I was still eating yogurt, and cheese along with Lactaid, but found I was having a lot of problems and decided it must be the dairy. I have been having a lot less problems since I eliminated it completely. I also gave up caffeine (switched to decaf...
  11. I have been gluten free for almost a year now (gluten-free since Nov. 2006), and I definitely feel glutened during my period. My cycle is getting shorter too. It is awful. I do try to take 2 Motrins every 4 hours so the cramps don't get really bad... I find that the cramps make the D worse... it's all that pressure... ugh...
  12. Hi there, I have passed out several times too. One night my husband found me on the bathroom floor (I passed out while on the pot...nice) and he called 911, I ended up in ER. When all was said and done, I think when I used to get really sick the pain was so severe that my body would just pass out. Also, don't forget you may be Lactose intolerant...
  13. I have never been tested for casein intolerance. However, I don't have problems with yogurt which I eat everyday, or cheddar cheese. I have always had much more severe reactions to heavier milk products like ice cream and creamy sauces - which I generally avoid -- and will only have if I have Lactaid with it. I have been gluten-free for 6 months...
  14. Has anyone had a reaction from Haagen Daaz vanilla ice cream? I ate some on Friday (along with several Lactaids), and I have been sick ever since. A lactose attack doesn't last this long -- so I think I was glutened -- thinking it was the ice cream... boo hoo
  15. I have gotten sick everytime I have eaten the BBQ chips. I steer clear of all their products now -- too risky.
  16. Hi Krista, I am a college student myself, and it is very challenging to make sure you eat in between classes. Others here gave some really good ideas on foods to eat - My problem was if I didn't bring anything to eat, then I didn't eat at all on those long school days. So it was a new challenge for me to make sure I remembered to bring something to...
  17. I go to the dentist every six months for a teeth cleaning and check-up. I just went this past week, and have had the same dentist for the past 18 years. She was amazed at how clean and healthy my mouth was. She couldn't believe it. She said there weren't any irritated areas, and usually there is something going on or healing in most people's mouths. I...
  18. The first thing I thought was, "What the heck kind of toilet paper does she use"? It must be pretty good stuff if she can get by with one square! But then maybe she has to use a lot more soap and paper towels to wash her hands afterwards....
  19. Hi all, Has anyone seen this article? Sorry if it's been posted, I looked and didn't see it anywhere around here. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  20. Well, I finally had my Endoscopy today --- get to wait a few more days for the lab results. I will say it was much easier than I thought. Also, I feel pretty good. Usually I feel crappy after getting knocked out, but not this time... thankfully! Anyway, evidently he removed a polyp on the roof of my stomach, and representative biopsies from smaller...
  21. Here is my reply from Mission Foods: [sigh] Dear Customer: Although our corn products (including corn tortillas, chips, tostadas and taco shells) still do not contain any gluten, the FDA has been working on issuing a final ruling on the issue of "gluten free product". We decided as a company to remove gluten free from our packaging until the final...
  22. I sent them an email after I posted my comment. I will let you all know what they say "when" they respond. I just bought the big bag if strips at Costco, and they say gluten-free. It's just a lotta chips -- I like the smaller bags from the grocery store... Chow,
  23. Has anyone noticed that the 'gluten free' labeling is no longer on the bag of Mission Tortilla Chips? I am afraid to buy them now....
  24. Hi Nicole, I think doctors like dairy because of the fat/brain devopment, and calcuim/bone development. You should talk to your doctor about the alternatives. If he is clearly doing better off dairy, then why put him through all that pain. I have passed out at restaurants (on the can no less, face down right on the floor... ewe) due to...
