  1. Hi Amy, I have been gluten-free for almost five months. I was losing weight before going gluten-free due to all the D and my fear of eating. Since going gluten-free, I have still lost more weight, and it was really beginning to scare me too. I found intially after going gluten-free that I felt really great, then after about a month I was beginning to...
  2. I have a reaction to dairy that is really fast too. Usually within an hour. With lactose intolerance you have dairy fermenting in your intestine, so your body gets rid of it, for me, once it's gone I am good to go. I would think with a child, it would process much faster. When my son was little, he processed so fast, I never saw such green poops in my...
  3. Hi Walter, Boy, you have definitely come to the right place when it comes to a group of people that can completely relate! I spent a couple of years revolving my life around the 'bathrooms' before I figured it out -- I guess I was always thankful when there was a bathroom, because I am not sure how I would have cleaned up after an accident like that...
  4. Hello, As far as health stores, there is a Wild Oats right in downtown Laguna Beach on Broadway. There is also a Whole Foods in Tustin (that is the closest one.) A Mother's Market in Laguna Hills, near the Laguna Hills Mall. I am sure you can find addresses on the internet, if not let me know. As far as restaurants, you would probably do well...

    ARCHIVED Probiotics

For whatever it's worth, I have been taking Digestive Advantage (IBS) which has probiotics in it, and eating a live cultured yogurt everyday since middle of Jan, and I have only been sick one day. I really don't know if the Dig. Advantage is the reason I am doing better, but I find it a nice coincidence. I do think they can be soothing for the stomach....
  6. I use Lactaid whenever I have dairy. I can pretty much get through a yogurt, or a piece of cheddar cheese on my sandwich without it... but if I push the day and keep loading up on the hard dairy (like milk, or heavy milk desserts) I will be in big trouble without lactaid. You just have to figure out how many you need to take in order to do the trick, but...
  7. I was in Arizona this past week (my parents live out there) and I went to Picazzos in Tempe twice. It was so great to eat pizza, a little expensive, but I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone. Everyone who worked there didn't even hesitate when I asked for the gluten-free menu, and assured me I would enjoy the meal and would be safe. I...
  8. I have been gluten-free for four months now. Initially, (through the holidays mostly) I felt incredibly good. I actually noticed how incredibly good and happy I felt. Which was in such contrast to all these year of dealing with life on or around a toilet everyday... geesh. Then I hit a rough patch for a month or so, I was getting sick from something once...
  9. I have a package of Pamelas Wheat-free Bread mix right here, and there is NO diary in the ingredients, nor are they added for baking. For me I think it may be the tapioca
  10. I contacted them in December about their Activia -- and here is their response: Dannon yogurt products are characterized as either gluten safe or not gluten safe. Our Dannon Plain Lowfat, Plain Nonfat and Plain Natural are all gluten safe. Plain DanActive (formerly called Original DanActive) is also gluten safe. All other Dannon yogurts and yogurt...
  11. I have a problem with Pamela's too. Was thinking it could be the Xgum, or yeast. But I do eat Food for Life Brown Rice Bread and I don't have any problems with that, and there is tapioca flour, and Xanthan Cellulose (<-- don't know if that is the same as gum) and there is yeast in it too. So.. the ingred in Pamelas that are different from Food's for...
  12. It could be the soy... I have suspected that too and tend to stay away from it. One night I had some fresh salmon, brocolli with a soy dressing and got D and vomiting... so I did think about the soy in the chips, but that doesn't account for Pamelas Wheat Free bread mix, which doesn't have soy in it. And -- I could say perhaps I was cc at home, BUT it...
  13. Hi there, I have had problems with other Lundberg chips too, not just the bbq.. so I am not going near them. I am still not convinced it is cc... but maybe. The thing is, the gluten thing doesn't usually affect me instantly, and those chips do... I am starting to think about this whole yeast overgrowth thing though. I find if I eat candy I don't feel...
  14. I have had problems with Lundbergs chips too. The BBQ ones and others. I feel bad right away, so I am thinking it may be a reaction to something else in the chips. It's not dairy because not all their chips have dairy in them and those have given me trouble too. I considered the yeast, but not all their chips have yeast in them either. I also suspect...
  15. We love Pamela's Wheat Free bread mix too. It's the best I have tried, as far as mixes go. It took me a couple of tries to get it right with my Breadman... The gluten-free setting didn't work out, and so I sent an email to Pamela's and they responded quickly with what I needed to do and even offered to send me a new bread mix to make up for the first one...
  16. Hi there, Friday I finally went to my first GI appointment after waiting for three months. I had not seen my blood test results until last week, I was only told that it was very likely celiac sprue by my regular doc and that I needed to follow a gluten-free diet. I went gluten free and feel much better, although I still have some problems. Definitley...
  17. Hi there everyone in San Diego, Anyone happen to have eaten at Gordon Biersch down that way and have a good story to tell? I am meeting with a group of old friends down there in a few weeks -- am thinking I will need to bring a sack dinner along...
  18. Hi there, How does everyone use Immodium around here? Before I found I have celiac disease I had suffered from what I mainly thought was Lactose Intolerance for many years and learned to avoid using Immodium unless I had to go somewhere. My thought had always been that dairy was fermenting in my intestines and the only way to move on was to get it out...
  19. Hi Angel, Hm, I haven't really considered yeast. I was thinking maybe 'soy'... When you say yeast, do you mean that you have a reaction to 'yeast' in foods? Or, are you talking about yeast -->intestinal overgrowth --> candida? Or is it the same thing? I have to say, I have eaten gluten-free breads and I never feel quite right after I eat them...
  20. For the rice cooker I like using Basmatti Brown Rice and add broth (chicken, vegetable) and then I throw in any vegetables I have around. I throw in mushrooms, chopped brocolli, I ususally have a container of dried onions around so I throw in a handful or so of those too. BTW, I don't add more liquid due to the additions either. Then I may top with soy...
  21. Hi there, I guess not, now that I look at it. I assumed that when I initially chose the "loaf size" button and it said 2lb that I was good to go. When I scroll down to the gluten-free setting I now see what you are saying ... that it doesn't show size. Hmmm When I had a loaf that wasn't cooked completely, I set it to 'bake' and left it on for another...
  22. Hi Betty, I got a Breadman for Christmas and I really love it. It's nice to have a soft warm loaf of bread. If you search under the cooking and baking section you will find discussions on it, but everyone seems to lean towards the Zorsushi (sp). I figured I may use it twice and never use it again so I decided on going with a less expensive option 'Breadman...
  23. Hi Noel, I was wondering... How were you diagnosed with IBS? I have been wondering lately if I have IBS too... after being diagnosed with celiac disease I wrote off the previous IBS conclusion, BUT, I started back to school this week and was not feeling well all week. I had D for the first time in weeks, and took immodium, I even had to run out of my...

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

Hi there, No I haven't tried Pei Wei yet... it sounds like I should. I go to school at the CSUF - Irvine campus so I am up that way quite a bit these days... hmmm Chicken salad sounds good right now --
  25. Hi there, Skosh Monahans is a restaurant in Costa Mesa that has a gluten free/cassien free menu. I believe the story goes something like; they have an Autistic child that must be gluten free so they have a gluten free menu which includes Pizza. I have not eaten there, it is an Irish Pub type place.. but I have heard about it, so I was just wondering if...
