  1. South Beach is actually how I figured out the solution to 10-12 years of symptoms! I went on the South Beach diet last October, and lo and behold, my GI issues got better! That put me on the track to figuring out the Celiac/Gluten link. Still waiting on the biopsies and enterolab, but dietary response has been good, not perfect. I suspect either...
  2. I'll see what I can do. It might be tough, since I don't know how well anyone in the family writes in Vietnamese, but I'll try. Between my wife, mom-in-law, and Po-Po, we should be able to get it done. Geoff
  3. That's the one Po-po found too. She says it's almost as good as the stuff she normally buys.
  4. I've got one - You go gluten-free, and suddenly the pile of unread magazines in your bathroom starts getting out of control, and you seriously consider cutting back on subscriptions.
  5. My wife is Chinese/Vietnamese, born in Vietnam, raised in the San Gabriel Valley in CA, and her family is very traditional, they eat just chinese or vietnamese food, speak Chinese at home, etc, etc. When we first started dating, and I started spending time with her family, I remember giving her a hard time about her family always eating rice. Breakfast...
  6. I'm a graduate student at UC Davis. I don't really eat on campus. There is a salad bar that I've used when desperate, but I worry about CC. Luckily, my wife is awesome. She makes me lunch somedays, somedays I make my own. My favorite are spring rolls. Rice paper, rice vermacelli, lettuce, dicon, carrots, mint, meat, and fish sauce. The...
  7. One of my wife's first attempts at baking (pre my diagnosis) she made me a carrot cake for my birthday. I sat down, and as I was eating it, couldn't help but wonder why it tasted like olives! She'd subbed in Olive oil, and you could certainly taste it! not really bad, but not the best tasting carrot cake! she's gotten much better, and has been great...

    ARCHIVED Torture!

So I've been making a real effort to be glutten free for a few weeks now, was gluten "lite" before that for a couple of months. I work, and I'm a full time graduate student, so I'm pretty busy. Today I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy (looked ok, don't know what the biopsies will show) so yesterday was liquids only. By my 6 pm class I was STARVING...
  9. Are they gluten free in general? I couldn't find any suspicious ingredients on my Oscar Meyer lunchmeats combo pack, but several references have been made to cold cuts not rkey, being safe, and ham, turkey, etc. Between work and being a full time student, I make a lot of sandwiches to take with me.
  10. Perfect! Thanks!
  11. When I've posted a question, I always have to hunt for the thread again to see responses. Is there a way to "track" certain threads?
  12. Bummer. It looks like none of the ones near me have it. Maybe it's time to make a few phone calls...I always enjoyed the asiago sauce.... Geoff
  13. Where does it say anthing about gluten on their website? I couldn't find it? Link? Thanks, Geoff
  14. I've been eating gluten light for a few months, and making a real effort to be gluten free since New Years. Mostly I feel much better, but I have had a few new symptoms. Is that normal? 1) Headaches - seem to be having a lot, and I never have before. 2) when I eat, I sometimes get this weird feeling where my eyes feel like they are swelling....
  15. That's what i thought. Stupid Dr. Ugh. It took me months to get this appointment.... Geoff
  16. So I've been waiting for my stupid HMO to schedule my endoscopy for months, and eating sort of gluten light. I've had a couple of pretty bad days, but mostly feel lots better. My the HMO called to schedule the appointment, they called it a colonoscopy. I asked the person making the appointment, and she said the GI would talk to me before the procedure...
  17. New to all this....My wife and I are converting the house to Gluten Free, but I hadn't even thought about contamination from Kissing! Congratulations on finding someone willing to go the extra mile. My wife's been great, better than me, and I'm the one with the issues! Geoff
  18. Well, I've been eating Gluten "light" for a few months, more commited for the last 4-5 weeks, but still making mistakes. Going home for Christmas was rough. I had the Ceasar with no croutons. =< Not much on the menu otherwise. Apparently I should have not. Geoff
  19. So I have the endoscopy scheduled next week. I was negative on the blood tests, but have had dramatic symptom improvements with attempting Gluten free (not fixed, but much much better, maybe because I'm still learning. Why the heck does Ceasar Salad need wheat? ugh. My Question is simple, will eating gluten this week make the test clearer? It's not...
  20. Oh yeah, the other thing I forgot to mention is that I was born in England, to Scottish (all of them) ancestry. Apparently it's more common in the british isles?
  21. So here's my backstory: I'm 31, a little overweight, but very active (kayak, climb, ran till recently). I've been having health issues for at least 8-9 years, symptoms included- Mostly stomach issues, gassy, bloated, loose stools, and needing to go -SOON- after eating. This was a daily, nearly every meal kind of thing. At one point I thought...
