ARCHIVED Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Contest -
GeoffCJ replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all! I'm hoping that figuring out the Celiac (and corn?) issues (diagnosed in January, but gluten free since Christmas, '06) will help me get my medical issues under control, and as such train better, and perhaps do even better in future competitions! Geoff -
Santa Cruz Paddlesurf Festival March 2007 Santa Cruz is the largest paddle surf contest in the country, and one the bigger events in the world. People come from all over the world to surf the famous Steamer Lane. There was big contigent from Ireland and England. I got another new boat, the Mega Megatron. Best surf boat ever. I hadn't competed in...

I dread getting the mail. Every day, pizza coupons. Argh! It's like sending an alcoholic beer coupons every day. Geoff

I saw it. Made me chuckle. JD wanted to find out if a girl had allergies, so he could claim the same allergy since "girls love that" Then it was something like him, pretending to talk to the girl, "Gluten? Me too!, we can eat together!"

ARCHIVED Easter Candy
GeoffCJ replied to nothungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just did a little dance in my office. The Cadbury Creme eggs are gluten free dance! Geoff -
I should have explained better. Enterolab does stool sampling, so it's non-invasive. They check for many different things, including some other food issues, and offer a gene test. They get some criticism here for not being published, but having dealt with intellectual property issues, I can see some good reasons they might not be publishing. People...

ARCHIVED Question On Testing
GeoffCJ replied to swinkler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Blood test are notorius for false negative. Consider getting further testing, but it sounds like the dietary test was clear! -
I had a negative blood test. I had clear damage during my endoscopy. I had positve results with enterolab. Have you considered testing through them?

I've been keeping a rough food diary since going gluten free, and I'm starting to suspect I might have corn issues. This is really frustrating, I'm not sure how I can handle such a restricted diet. I'm trying to cut it out for a few weeks, then I'll reintroduce, but I have a few questions. Is corn like gluten in that eating even a little (corn syrup...

ARCHIVED Could This Be A Problem
GeoffCJ replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Everyone love's that quote, but if you read it in context, it's in favor of lawyers. In the play, there is a plot to create a revolution. To do so, the perpetuator "Dick The Butcher" suggests killing the lawyers. This act is designed to bring chaos, underscoring the idea that lawyers were seen at that time to be protectors of society and free thought. ... -
Mariana, I can't help you with the question, but you might have better luck asking your question in a new thread. Geoff

Me too! Ugh. I mean, if we celiacs don't eat it, what poor soul does? Geoff

Heading to Santa cruz to compete in a kayak contest. I'll be there 4 days. Any restaurant ideas? Any good celiac friendly places?

ARCHIVED Rice Paper?
GeoffCJ replied to simplicity66's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Really? I eat rice paper all the time, and I've never seen any that DO have any ingredients that concern me. It's always wise to be careful, but most are just rice and water. Geoff -
I guess I meant in my post there may be other foods you're not aware of reacting too, but are. The diabetes is tough. My dad and aunt and grandpa have Type 1, so it's always been something I've watched out for, but I seem to have dodged that genetic bullet. On the "silver lining" side, you're probably already better than many of us at paying attention...

Well, I'm no expert, I've only been gluten-free a few months. But I've found it pretty tricky. The obvious is easy, it's the hidden sources that aren't so I haven't looked for the gluten free stuff yet. I think that our bodies get used to eating things, so anytime you have such a dramatic shift in your diet, it's likely to wonder what's up. It's...

Congrats on the new car! We just bought my wife a new Honda Fit. It's such a fun little car, I have to keep coming up with excuses to drive it! Geoff

ARCHIVED Fl Trip, Need Ideas-cooking, Bringing Food Into Parks, Etc
GeoffCJ replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Wow! Does anyone know if the park in California is as accommodating? My wife and I went on our first date to Downtown Disney several years ago. Maybe we should go back! We live in Northern California now, but travel back to LA/Orange County frequently. Geoff -
ARCHIVED Abs Redbridge Beer
GeoffCJ replied to johnm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It made me chuckle reading this thread about beer. Since so many people put pictures of themselves in their avatar, I always think it's that person "talking" when I read a post. As I scroll through the discussion of beer, it's a little girl wearing sunglasses and an infant! -
ARCHIVED Relationships And Gluten..help!
GeoffCJ replied to bremac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might be suprised. I'm at school getting an MBA right now, in a small program. After diagnosis, people noticed that I wasn't partaking in the frequent snacks/pizza etc. When I started explaining why, I got a mixture of sympathy (no beer? Rally, dude, that sucks.), curiosity, and a few people who were familiar. One friend even told me about a place... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Back - Need Advice
GeoffCJ replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think she means "any other doctor worth more than the piece of paper they printed his degree on". I agree completely. That kid should be off gluten. And you should find a new, better doctor. Sadly, many truly are ignorant. I went undiagnosed for years, despite clear Celiac symptoms. I went to the doctors dozens of times, and had just about every... -
Cuervo, I'm very active, and noticed that on the gluten-free diet I lost a little weight right at first, then gained a bit, but my clothes feel better. I've mostly noticed an improvement in my training. Despite not getting to the gym as often, I'm lifting a little more, and my stamina during exertion is better. I recently paddled a long, hard kayak...

ARCHIVED Southern Ca gluten-free Restuurants
GeoffCJ replied to Mary Lewis's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I ate at In-n-Out last night. My understanding is that the sauce on the burgers is not gluten free but I could bw wrong. In fact, I'd love to wrong. Chipotle is gluten free if you get the crispy tacos, but there is risk of CC. There are tons of good sushi places in socal. Vietnamese food is a great choice in LA or the San Gabriel valley. I... -
I've been gluten-lite for several months, and gluten-free (mostly!) since Christmas. I've had a few clear "glutenings" I can attest that the reaction gets WAY worse than it ever was before. Some days I feel not 100%, but not horrible, and I'm starting to suspect I may have corn issues as well. Or I'm not doing a great job avoiding gluten. Some weeks I...

Why is B6 a no-no? I've been taking B complex vitamins. Geoff
