  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Carly, It probably depends on where you are. Near me (Natomas area in Sacramento, CA) the Safeway has a small gluten-free section, that I seem to remember had gluten-free flour. The Ralphs has a better selection, so I shop there mostly. If you post where you are at, there will probably be someone who can recommend places to shop. Geoff
  3. I've been Gluten-free for over a year now, and getting it mostly figured out. I've had a few gluten-incidents, and seem to have a pretty distinct reaction. I eat out fairly often, and either am pretty lucky about CC, or am not super sensitive. Most of my reactions I've been able to traceback to a specific mistake. My wife and I were in TX for a...
  4. This one was just boneheaded - On my birthday last November, I happened to stop at Whole Foods. I noticed one of their gluten-free Carrot Cakes, and got all excited. I decided to treat myself. I needed to stop by Raleys anyway, and while there, looked at a can of frosting. Saw nothing wrong with the ingredients, then noticed another brand was on sale...

    ARCHIVED Blood Test

Is getting a new doctor an option?
  6. To hike the Inka trail, you are required to use a guide service. You can not hike the inka trail on your own. Their are other hikes, but on the famous inka trail, you must use a guide. We didn't use a tour group fro most of our trip, but did for that section. We went with Mayuc Cusco, and they did a great job with the Gluten Free thing. I spoke with...
  7. I haven't posted here much lately, busy with work, but I wanted to share. My wife and I just returned from an 11 day trip to Peru, including hiking to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. It was fantastic, and I didn't get glutened once. I did get some stomach issues one day, but I think it was just normal travellers stomach issues, as...
  8. So of the flavors at cold stone DO have gluten in them! In the bucket of ice cream. I've asked before, and been given a list of allergens in both the ice creams and the mix-ins. Geoff
  9. I'm meeting a friend for dinner in Santa Clara, CA tomorow night. Anyone have suggestions for places to go? Geoff
  10. I've been drinking Dairy Ease with no ill effects. I strongly prefer the taste to Lactaid, and it's cheap. I don't like shopping at WalMart, so I pick up about 4-5 gallons a time. Geoff
  11. I went to PF Changs for the first time last Tuesday. I met up with two friends who were in from out of town. (I had just introduced them via email when one sent an email, mentioning that he was changing airlines -he's a pilot - I knew another kayaker who was a pilot for the new airline. My firend ended up training my friend who was new to the airline...
  12. Neuropathy was one of my big symptoms before diagnosis. Since going gluten-free, it has seemed at times to get better, then worse than I remembered, then better, then worse.... Frustrating. I've been taking B12, but perhaps I should look at Folic Acid too. Geoff
  13. And I contributed my part. 10+ years fear of possible nerve damage (I'll let you know in 60 years) 31 years old
  14. Just to be a bit of a downer, but having spent the last couple years studying marketing, and marketing research, people should be VERY, very careful to draw any kind of conclusions from this poll. This forum is a perfect example of "self selected sample". If there was a question on there about "do you have gluten intolerance or celiac disease?" the number...
  15. Cool. Thanks everyone. I haven't had any stomach issues, so I'm hoping I'm just tired and that's causing the headache. I'll buy some gluten-free stuff for next time. I have a pile (literally, probably 30+) things of lip stuff, all with company names on it from when I worked in the outdoor industry. Seemed to be the popular giveaway at tradeshows...
  16. my lips are chapped from hiking this weekend. I've been using this all day, and have a splitting headache, but that could easily be the lack of sleep I've had over the last few days. here are the ingredients: octinoxate, oxybenzone, petroltum aloe, cetyl alcohol, flavor, isopropyl lanolate, Isopropyl Myristrate, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Propylparaben...
  17. I'm heading to Peru in November, and looking for hints. We're hiking the Inca trail, and looking for a guide service that can accommadate. Geoff
  18. Anyone know if this is widespread? I'd love to go there.
  19. I was using the eastern paupua New Guinean term. Like how the english spell it Coeliac....
  20. My wife just burst into my office. She made me switch away from the Daily Show to a cooking show, but it was neat to see gluten-free on the TV! Geoff
  21. ' Welcome. Do be aware that some tests for Celiacs require you to still be on the diet. Geoff

    ARCHIVED Throwing Up?

I've puked a few times after a gluten reaction. Once was the worst gluten reaction I've had. Another time it was otherwise a fairly mild (overall) reaction. I can't seem to figure out the correlation between the amount of Gluten I consume and the reaction. I've had a known glutening with mild reactions, and another that kicked my ass for 3 days. I...
  23. I mentioned this thread to my wife last night. She was super excited. she said she and her brother used to watch it every day! She loved it. G
  24. I have tried the New Grist Beer, and Redbridge. I like Redbridge better. It's pretty good. I have never seen gluten-free beer in a Can. I think bottles are easier for smaller runs/batches/production.
  25. I've been working my ass off the last week or two, work work, not excercise. I did go kayaking for about 8 hours saturday. I feel like I've been eating VERY healthy, but haven't been sleeping and have gained a few pounds. 287. Worst ever. Damn.
