  1. I am pretty active. I kayak once a week or so. four or five years ago I was running marathons, but was starting to have a hard time staying active. Since my diagnosis, I've been feeling better, but gaining weight. Can't really figure out how, except stressed and busy and not excercising much. I've always been big, football player/wrestler build...
  2. Does anyone that makes their own Ice-cream use Lactose Free milk? Does it work? I might invest in an icecream maker if I could make Lactose-Free, gluten free ice cream. Geoff
  3. Well, I just had a Dr's appointment. Got checked over pretty completely. turns out my HDL (the good ones) levels are way too low. Dr suggested eating more seafood (yum), more good fats (avocado, etc), and drinking more wine. Might be the first good news I've got from a Doctor in years! => the bad news is I've been told my weight is also an...
  4. I pretty much live on the 365 crackers. I like the sesame ones and the seaweed ones. I eat them _all_ the time, and have not had issues. Geoff
  5. Unfortunately, the fact that they keep doing it must mean a lot of people don't realize what's going on. I participate in kayak ing forum, and people are always selling sued boats and gear in the "gearswap" section. Unfortunately, it seems every few weeks someone gets ripped off by these scam artists. check out what Wikipedia says- Open Original...
  6. Definnately a Scam. The way it works is they send a fake check. You deposit it, then when in "clears" in 4-5 days, you wire them the money. Then in two weeks you bank tells you the check was fraudulent, and you are responsible for the total amount of the check. So you're out that money, as you have no recourse with the wire company. They won't even...
  7. Were they Gluten-free rice Crispies? Because I've not found any gluten-free rice crispies that aren't disgusting. Geoff
  8. I should learn to read.
  9. our wedding was quite a bit more expensive that that, and we paid for 90% of it. I was still a student at the time, so it was tough, but we did it, and I have no regrets. I don't think a fancy, big celebration is needed, but I certainly had a great time and don't regret a thing. Geoff
  10. BTW- That's a very nice dress. And $200, for anything wedding related, is pretty inexpensive. I was bit reluctant to have a big wedding, but we did, and it was awesome and spectacular and wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. there are pictures and our vows here. Open Original Shared Link
  11. My wife is Chinese-Vietnamese-American. It's traditional to wear multiple wedding dresses on your wedding day. she "only" had 3, a friend of hers had 5. Her mom wanted her to have 5, but she thought that was silly. It's your day, don't let anyone ruin it. We had all kinds of little squabbles trying to arrange a wedding that would feel "normal" and...
  12. I wonder if this is how Dr. Fine at Enterolab starts his day, by singing a round of this song.
  13. I'd suggest that if you only have it happen on your bike, it's probably not neuropathy. I used to ride several hundred miles a week, and can't say enough about having a really good bike shop properly fit you and your bike. It will cost money, and you may even need to buy a new stem, saddle or handlebars, but my guess is that your position and fit on the...
  14. I get headaches, and my eyes ache. They almost feel like they are swollen too big for their sockets, though I'm sure that's not the case. That's within 20 minutes of eating. My stomach will be rumbling soon after, and I'll need to use the restroom quickly. Sometimes, I think in CC situations, I get the headaches and the eyes, but no real immediate...
  15. I had a negative blood test, but a positive endoscopy and tested positive with Enterolab. After years of false diagnosis, I wanted as much information as possible. I knew I felt better without gluten, but I wanted to know why. I got my answer. But to be honest, as I told my Doctor during the testing process, I would have needed a pretty compelling...
  16. Hey there, I was just at the student health center at UC Davis, seeing my doctor, and he asked if I wanted to see a nutritionist. Given all your food issues, I'd imagine it's very tough to get all the nutrients/fats/proteins, etc. that the body needs. I'd recommend you make an appointment to see a nutritionist ASAP. I've graduated, but am working...
  17. My family is mostly in England/UK. Their socialized health system is FAR from perfect. When my grandpa was sick with cancer and multiple strokes, the wait times were horrendous. I don't think socialized medicine is the answer, but we should look at the reasons it's so expensive, and fix those. Better government support for drug research, and then issue...
  18. I got glutened during finals last month. A friend handed me a red vine while studying, I bit off a piece, hcewed once or twice, thought about it, spit it out. I was still sick. My wife is not gluten-free, but our house is mostly gluten-free now. She's very careful not to kiss me after eating something with gluten. Geoff
  19. Why can't someone invent a tree that gives you 10 peaches a week? Instead, our tree has decided to give us 2-300 hundred at the same time. Ideas for creative gluten-free peach recipes? If any Sacramento Area Celiacs would like bag of gluten-free Peaches, shoot me a personal message. Geoff
  20. YUp, I just boil them till soft, then drain and rinse. There are all kinds of brands available. I like the Egret Rice Vermacelli. Easy! Geoff
  21. Is it pre-tax deductions? I'm confused what the benefit is if it's for some regular expense. If it's pre-tax that'd make sense. Geoff
  22. When you are at the Asian market, try some Rice Noodles. There are some that make fine substitutes for SPaghetti, I eat mine with Pasta (tomato) sauce all the time. I like it better than the $3/box stuff from the health food store, and I'm lucky that I don't have to worry about cost too much. It's cheap too, I've seen it for $1 for 3 boxes. It's kind...
  23. Is this really new? It's been offered for quite some time. Geoff
  24. Dee, Thanks. When I said "I used to do the cliff bar thing" I meant before my diagnosis. I have had the CLiff Nectar bars, are those not gluten-free? I've been using Lara bars mostly, but I'll have to look for the Balance bars.... Geoff
  25. I agree. I'd shop before leaving, keep some stuff handy (I make my wife put stuff in her purse.) I don't feel you need to hide anything, but don't make it a big deal. Simply pull out your food and eat it when others are eating. If anyone asks, just say, "I have medical issues that require me to be very careful about what I eat". Most people have...
