  1. I feel like I say this a lot, but if you like Chinese food, try vietnamese food. I prefered it even before going gluten-free, but especially now, since it has many gluten-free choices. Geoff
  2. One of the good things about paying high California real estate prices is our access to incredible produce! I did all my shopping at the Nugget Grocery near UC DAvis. Great for fresh foods. A little spendy, but since my wife and I's dining out costs have dropped near zero, it's not bad! Geoff
  3. Sure! Hmmm. I may not be the best person to ask for recipes! I rarely measure, and rarely use recipes. But here's a shot. Most ingredients are just guesses, but these recipes will all adjust to different variations. The salad was simple. Nice lettuce, a few fun different colorful tomatoes, sliced fresh Mozarella Cheese, and a bottle of gluten...
  4. I was diagnosed in January, and have been eating completely, strictly gluten-free (except for mistakes) since January, I feel much much better, but am still having some issues. I'm pretty sure I can handle milk, but corn seems to be an issue. At times I feel this diet is really annoying, and I get really, really, really frustrated at times. I end up...
  5. I had a lot of GI issues, problems with my hands and feet tingling and going numb, and or pain in my hands and feet, and insomnia. I hadn't actually realized how bad my sleep was until after going gluten free and actually getting a good nights sleep! Geoff
  6. Dammit. Is it gluten fog? I keep forgetting my negatives! "but I bet it would NOT be the highest dollar"
  7. Hemp is the industrial version of the plant, used for cloth, rope, etc, as well as what is eaten in cereals and nutritional products. Strongest natural fiber available. Only grown in very limited quantities in the US, due to our drug laws, despite being worthless for smoking. Marijuana is the higher THC version of the plant. That is what is smoked...
  8. I had nerve issues in my feet and hands, for 7-10 years. Tingling and numbness. It doesn't sound as severe as yours, mine is rarely debilitating, though on occasion it makes walking or doing simple manual tasks very difficult or uncomfortable. I have seen some improvement in frequency since going gluten free 4 months ago, but not much improvement in...
  9. And I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I disagree that silence and laws are the answer. I'll step out of this thread now. Geoff
  10. "NOW TELL ME IT'S OK TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA, SO IT'S LEGAL TO HARM THE CHILDREN IN OUR WORLD!" Deb, that's a bit of a straw man. Your grandson's mom did several really stupid things. I am really sorry to hear that. But the legal/illegal nature of the drug did nothing to prevent it. She used legal drugs (alcohol) and illegal. Both probably harmed...
  11. They are probably mostly relatives and friends of JerryK, the gluten-free recruiter.
  12. I diagree strongly that topics should be avoided because it's "illegal". At one time, women voting, interracial marriage, and many other things were illegal. Those things changed because people stood up and said, this is dumb. In a democracy, avoiding talk about something because "it's illegal" encourages a passive population, and that's not what makes...
  13. The Gluten-Free Envirokids cereals are clearly labelled on the front. I believe that not all are. I like the Cocoa crisp flavor best, but I'm 31. Teh Gorilla crunch is OK. Funny story, I bought a box to leave at my In-Laws. When I went back there this weekend, it was gone. Apparently my 82 y.o. Chinese Grandma in Law loves envirokids now. ...
  14. Bummer. Of well. All the gluten-free baked goods I've tried have been disappointing anyway, so I guess I'll save some cash. You don't knwo the name of the ice cream shop in Folsom that sells gluten-free cones do you? Thanks, Geoff
  15. Wow. Your signature said you tested positive to 91/100 foods?!?!? That must be tough. What can you eat? I am a student at UC Davis, but in the Graduate School of Management, getting my MBA. So, unfortuantely, I can't really speak to how the diet works in the dorms. In fact, other than coffee, I've only ever eaten in the MU (Memorial Union) and...
  16. There are at least two up by me in Natomas. Let me know what you find at the bakery. Despite going to school in Davis, I haven't tried it yet! Geoff
  17. Chipotle and Tacos Del Mar both have gluten free menus on their website. There is a gluten-free bakery in Davis. Geoff
  18. digg.com Fark.com www.netvibes.com - Takes a little setup, but tons of good stuff.
  19. So I've been gluten-lite since November/October, gluten-free since Christmas, with a few slips. My gluten reactions seem pretty severe, I had a "known" glutening middle of February, and it resulted in the bid D and vomiting for 12 hours, and felt bad for a few days. Based on that, I think I've been doing a pretty good job of avoiding gluten, but...
  20. No kidding! I mean, if I'm going to get sick, an damage my insides, at least let me know I'm going to be sick. I'm ordering a real pizza and getting a 6-pack of beer. Getting sick because of some ingredient I didn't even know about just sucks. Geoff
  21. Although google is great at "understanding" text and placing appropriate ads on pages, it's clearly not perfect! I was just reading another post, and the ad in the google bar was for Barilla Pasta. Made me chuckle. Like a beer ad on a AA web forum. Geoff
  22. Of course, it's always important to ask!!! Geoff
  23. I've said it before, but if you like asian food, and want to eat out, seek out a Vietnamese place. My wife's family is Chinese/Vietnamese, and when I'm around, they've pretty much just started avoiding Chinese places since it's nearly impossible to get gluten free. Vietnamese places tend to use Fish Sauce, which is safe normally. They also use lots...
