  1. I'm mostly OK with it, but accidental glutenings that shut me down and not being able to eat out (I'm away from home a lot!) without concern gets pretty old. Geoff
  2. I was diagnosed at 31, but have had symptoms since I was in college. Maybe 19 years old or so. Didn't get diagnosed. Symptoms got worse, and I got more of them. around 6-7 years ago, I started having issues with Periphial (sp?) Neuropathy. I get painful tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. Since going gluten-free, most of my symptoms have...
  3. I'm at about 6-7 months, and my reactions have gotten much more immediate and severe. Even a tiny amount kind of knocks me on my ass. Geoff
  4. OMG - As soon as I opened the thread, and saw the picture of your dad as Barth, I remembered all the great characters he played! Wow. That's really, really, really cool. Tell your dad for me, please, that I used to watch the show every chance I got. I loved Barth and his other characters. The skits with the firing line were hilarious. That show was...
  5. I remember it. My mom and Step-dad didn't have cable, so I didn't see it a lot, but I remember loving it when I'd stay with my biological father. Funny stuff. Do you have a picture of your dad from those days? I'll admit I don't remember an adult at all. But I didn't get to see it much...silly anti-TV parents... have you ever heard the urban legend...
  6. San Deigo. Big BioTech center. Awesome weather. Ocean. Just make sure he has a good salary, as houses are spendy. Geoff
  7. I recently (a month ago) finished my MBA. I started a company while there, which is focused on energy efficiency technologies. My partner has invented a new efficient patented material for thermoelectric devices, which can convert heat energy to electrical energy. We are using it to capture waste heat from truck engines to make the trucks overall more...
  8. I've posted a similar suggestion before, but I don't use a Corn tortilla, though you could I suppose. I use Food For Life Brand Brown Rice Tortillas, which I get at Whole Foods. Since WF is kind of a drive for me, I get lot's when ever I'm there. The brown rice tortillas toast nicely, and don't taste much like a taco when toasted. I actually recently...
  9. I've been making my own sushi a lot lately. You can google tons of good recipes. For the rice I add Rice vinegar and sugar. We buy our fish at a small asian market, but I always talk to the proprietor about what is fresh. We go there often enough, and once or twice he's said "not for sushi" but most of his stuff is pretty fresh, the place is pretty busy...
  10. Amberleigh, Just wanted to Pipe in with a "Cute Family!" My sister had twins in March, and I haven't been able to visit yet, but we're going over Labor day, and I'm very excited. Geoff
  11. There is not an easy answer to this question. Unfortunately, some manufactures seem to use this as a "Cover your ass" statement, and put it on all their products. And it can mean that the wheat products are used on the adjacent production line, or used in a separate room. There is no way to know. Many people here will avoid products that say...
  12. Many Corn Tortillas are safe. I also like the brown rice tortillas from Whole Foods, forget the brand name. I'm a big fan of the EnviroKids cereals. It does make me wonder why no one makes a really yummy, gluten-free, adult type cereal . I used to love Raisin Bran and the "nuts and flakes" type cereals. I've eaten several brands of corn chips...
  13. My understanding - The blood test does not always pick up Celiac disease, that is there are a good number of false negatives. But it is accurate with a positive, that is that if it says you DO have it, your most likely do. but if it says you DON'T, well, the jury is still out. I was negative on the blood test, but positive dietary reaction, positive...
  14. I like to chew Sugar-free chewing gum. What brands are safe? Any that are definitely not? thanks in advance, Geoff
  15. I have posted here before about my love for Vietnamese food, and that I thought it was generally a safer choice than chinese or other asian foods. my wife and I had looked at dozens of bottles of Fish Sauce at the Asian grocers, and hand't found any with gluten ingredients, and I'd generally considered Fish Sauce safe. My wife recently discovered a bottle...
  16. I get it in my hands and feet. Pretty bad at times. Hard to walk or type. Haven't had a seeming reduction in grip strength, but it gets mighty uncomfortable at times. My feet are going right now. I haven't had this go way since gluten-free, though it does seem to be getting a little less frequent. Of course, I just found out I've been glutening...
  17. Speaking as a Celiac with a very supportive wife, your effort is awesome and I hope he appreciates it. there are tons and tons and tons of good, fun, romantic things to eat. I used to be addicted to bread/pasta, etc, and have found some good substitutes, but have mostly found I just don't eat them as much anymore. He'll get used to the differences....
  18. My wife thinks I'm OCD. I hate skipping aisles in the grocery store. Even aisles that have nothing we ever buy in them. Geoff

  20. I had three main symptoms- 1) Stomach issues - the Big D, rumbling, gas, etc, etc. 2) Neuropathy - Lots of tingling, pins and needles. Painful at times. Hard to type or walk at times. 3) Insomnia- Which I hadn't even realized was related, but now do. 1+2 are mostly fixed. Still having issues with neuropathy. Geoff
  21. Whole Foods can be expensive, but some of their stuff is very reasonable. Especially their 365 brand. I buy the rice crackers, and the jams/jellys, as well as other things. Geoff
  22. I was there recently with my Mom and Grandma who were visiting. (I live in Sacramento, but took them to San FRan). We were doing all the touristy stuff, and were looking for a place to eat. We went into Ghiradelli square, and ate at the nice restaurant overlooking the water, right by the old 50's style place. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the...
  23. I just finished a box (not in one sitting, over a week or so) with no ill effects.
  24. Mine isn't really my Colon, I don't think, but I certainly get "rumbles". Geoff
  25. Well, I'm not off to the best start. I was up till almost 3 working, and got up at 6. Pretty tired. I had a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles for breakfast, with FF milk and a lactaid pill. Strangely, my neuropathy, which hasn't been acting up much, is really bad today. this morning, trying to type, I was having a rough time. Geoff
