ARCHIVED Are Organic Nuts From The Health Food Store Gluten Free?
Juliebove replied to ericsnow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are from mine! The owner is has celiac. She freezes the nuts and packages them up as needed. You would have to ask at your health food store. -
I don't think it does. There was an outbreak of it here years ago at Jack In The Box with burgers.

ARCHIVED Summer Meals- Gluten Free
Juliebove replied to onehappylady's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like to either use the crockpot or make cold foods when it's really hot. One thing I like to make in the crockpot is baked beans. I put a lot of bacon in them so they are pretty much a meal in themselves. Daughter and I love raw corn. I will cut it off the cob and make it into a salad with canned black or kidney beans, some chopped green onion, bell... -
I don't have gluten issues but if I did, I wouldn't eat it. I keep looking for survival type food and it all seems to have gluten!

ARCHIVED Confused!
Juliebove replied to suziq0805's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has IgG allergies. As a baby she threw up milk based formulas and soy based gave her constipation. Then by the time she was 1 she seemed to tolerate both milk and soy. Or so I thought. Fast forward to school. Teacher thought she had ADD because of her inability to pay attention. Long story short it was the food allergies. She was constantly... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Recipes? Anyone?

You can also buy gluten-free breadcrumbs. There are a few stores here that sell them. -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Recipes? Anyone?
Juliebove replied to momtok&m's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have an actual recipe and I add tons of veggies to ours plus I can't use egg. So mine is not the best for slicing. I just make free form mini loaves. First I chop my veggies really well with the food processor. Then I saute them in a small amount of olive oil until I have cooked as much of the liquid out of them as I can. I let them cool. ... -
ARCHIVED This Is Unusually Frustrating- (Gross Picture)
Juliebove replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Everyone is different but it's likely you'll stay highly reactive. My daughter has an allergy and not celiac, but... Before she was just mildly sick all the time. I guess because she was eating wheat in some form at least several times a week if not daily. A few weeks after she was diagnosed and before I knew any better, I went to a drive in and ordered... -
ARCHIVED New Jamba Juice Smoothies!
Juliebove replied to TEMP876556's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Do you mean that the old ones had gluten before? They had two listed that were AFAIK vegan. No dairy in them. Daughter tried both but the one with bananas made her tongue go numb. She tried it twice. Not sure why it did that. She eats bananas with no problem but she did outgrow an allergy to them. The one she usually gets in the Peach Perfection. It... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Like To See In A Cookbook?
Juliebove replied to MissBonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well I don't make my own stock and my chicken and vegetable soup cooks pretty quickly. Is that all it's good for? Soup? -

Well, we don't like the taste of coconut milk. And what do you use in place of butter? I haven't found any gluten-free biscuits that are good at all. They all come out really sweet. And sweet is not what I want in a biscuit. -
ARCHIVED Packed Cold Dinners.
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have used the coconut stuff for teriyaki but it's very expensive. Don't think she would eat gazpacho since she doesn't like tomatoes. I have had it and I don't like it. I don't know why because I like all that goes into it. She's not much into veggies either. I can get her to eat some, but too many would be pushing it. Thanks! We only have... -

ARCHIVED Packed Cold Dinners.

I start with tricolored quinoa pasta. It holds up better when cold. Cook it in boiling salted water and when just barely done, put cold water over it. Change the water a few times to stop the cooking. Drain it well. Mix in whatever raw veggies you like cut in bite sized pieces. We like cucumber, carrots, celery, radishes, bell peppers, green onions... -
ARCHIVED What Am I Reacting To?
Juliebove replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There was something posted here a while ago about some strawberries growing in wheat straw. That could be it. I suppose the almond milk or walnuts could be cross contaminated. For that matter, even the quinoa could be. Perhaps you should call the manufacturer to be sure. -
ARCHIVED Neuropathy In My Feet Scares Me!
Juliebove replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do take extra vitamin B12. My levels don't show as low but my Endo. wants me on more. Another Endo. told me to take Evening Primrose Oil, 2,000 mg each morning and night. That really seems to help. Some people find that Alpha Lipoic Acid helps. I take that too. Not sure if it helps. I tried the antidepressants. They give you a really low dose... -

Magnum Ice Cream
Juliebove replied to bridgetm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well this doesn't make me happy. I have a coupon I was going to use for these. Daughter is allergic to wheat so they would be out of the question if in fact there is wheat in them. -

That's true too. Although I own many cookbooks, I just don't use them any more. I sometimes get a recipe from a magazine, but mostly I get them online. They're free and easy! -

Agree on disliking the flour mixes! When I first started gluten-free baking, I had two big containers that I had to go out and buy that I filled with mixes. One was a general mix and one was a I think a French bread mix. But oh, that wasn't enough! Many of the recipes called for all sorts of other flours and starches, all of which I bought. The end result... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Like To See In A Cookbook?
Juliebove replied to MissBonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That doesn't necessarily work. I've found that egg replacer really doesn't work well for most things at all. And we can't use soy milk. We can use rice milk but it's very thin and doesn't work for most things either. Plus it really ups the carb count and as a diabetic I don't need the extra carbs. -

Juliebove replied to MissBonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What sorts of things do you cook in one? I've never had one but have a birthday coming up so I might ask for one. My mom had one. I can't remember what she cooked in it. She didn't use it very often and was mostly terrified of it because she said it could blow up. That made me frightened of it too but apparently the ones sold these days are quite... -

Agree with you there. We also can't do many nuts or eggs. So in most gluten-free cookbooks I am lucky to find one recipe I can use. -
ARCHIVED Freezable Recipes
Juliebove replied to Elfbaby's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have a lot of room in my freezer so don't usually freeze completed dishes. I do like to keep some cooked chicken breast, cooked hamburger patties, plain cooked ground beef and taco seasoned ground beef in the freezer. It's quick and easy to cook up some rice, pasta or potatoes to go with or mix with. Tonight we had Spanish rice. I simply added...
