  1. That sounds soooo familiar! My mom doesn't have celiac but she does have food allergies and is supposed to avoid wheat and nightshades because of her arthritis. She has told us this countless times. Sometimes she has even told us not to let her eat these things. But then when we do say something she gets a bad attitude and says it is none of our business...
  2. I get the pizza crusts at one Albertsons. Have seen rolls there too but don't remember what kind they were.
  3. Thanks! I just gave her a piece of the strawberry chiffon bars. She hated the nut crust. Said the strawberry part was just okay. Too many strawberries in it for her. And I did puree them. I might try making her a pineapple dessert that I used to make. You take a can of those pineapple chunks packed in juice. Take the chunks out and flash freeze...
  4. I've found that salads can be the worst because they often have croutons lurking in them. If you say you want no croutons, they might put them on there and then pick them off when they realize their mistake. My daughter loves Amy's gluten-free frozen burritos. I have yet to try them. But when I worked and ate frozen burritos, I would put one in a microwavable...
  5. She doesn't like most fruit. She will eat apples, pears, bananas and melon. She will eat strawberries if they are pureed. She won't eat whole berries. She won't eat quinoa. She loves the apple crisp that I make but it has a ton of sugar in it. It's the sugar that makes it crisp. I have tried making it with artificial sweetener in it and it just comes...
  6. I don't want to do a cheesecake because it is either dairy or soy. And Rice Chex are high in the kind of carbs she's not supposed to eat. I have googled and only came up with a couple of things at the about.com site but one does have dairy. I am going to try that tonight but am not hopeful because it contains Jell-O. She saw me buy the Jell-O and freaked...
  7. I looked at those recipes and they are all pretty high in the wrong kind of carbs. Like rice flour and sugar. The cheesecake is out because it contains soy. She can't have soy with a thyroid problem. Honey is a bad thing too. And no dried fruit. All the wrong kind of carbs. We do like baked apples.
  8. She hates rice pudding and raisins. Besides that would contain dairy and raisins are the exact sort of carbs she has to avoid. But thanks.
  9. I have to come up with something new this year. Daughter has to have a diet that is lower in simple carbs. Last year she didn't eat much in the way of breakfast or lunch because her lunch came at 10:30. But she will have the latest lunch this year. So she will need to eat. Last year she mainly had carrots and apples. But she will need something more...
  10. Bananas are VERY high in carbs. So no go there. But thanks.
  11. With him? Who knows. He does all sorts of things he shouldn't do or that make no sense. Once when we were first married I went to his grandma's house for Christmas Eve dinner. His family is Italian and the tradition is that all the women gather together to make the dinner. I had offered to help but was told I could not. I did help prepare some things...
  12. My daughter frequently has hummus as a snack with apple slices or baby carrots to dip it in. If you can't eat the pre-made hummus you can make your own version by simply whipping some cooked chick peas in the blender. You might want to add a few drops of oil or even the cooking liquid to thin it. Add garlic or some herbs to flavor.
  13. I bought some other brand of sloppy Joe stuff that was gluten-free. I can't remember where I bought it. We used it a while ago. We are not big sloppy Joe eaters. But when I made them as a kid there was no such thing as Manwich. I just used canned tomato sauce and added a few things. There are plenty of recipes on the Internet. I do remember buying...
  14. No, sorry. Eggs in most things and dairy and/or nuts in the others.
  15. Nope. Those all contain almonds and/or dairy. But thanks!
  16. She loves smoothies but I didn't know how to make them low carb. She did try coconut milk once and didn't like it at all. Normally we make them with rice milk and sorbet in addition to the berries. Also a drizzle of honey. So not low carb. I will try that though. She won't eat the Popsicles that we make. I do have plenty of molds. I also don...
  17. We went out to dinner tonight at a place where we dine a couple of times a month. They don't have a gluten-free menu but they can make a plain chicken breast for my daughter and she gets it on a taco salad minus the dairy. They don't put their salad in the big flour tortilla bowl. Instead it comes with chips. So they we were, when all of a sudden her...
  18. My daughter has a thyroid problem and is gaining weight rapidly. That is being addressed but the Dr. thinks she also has insulin problems and perhaps an adrenal problem. He wants her to cut back on the simple carbs. Because she has some food allergies this complicates things. And she has outgrown others such as dairy and eggs. She is only allowed...
  19. We have been lucky here so far. At the moment is it a little warm. But not unbearable.
  20. I used to buy Mentos for my daughter and had told the dance studio that they were safe for her to eat. They would normally give them out at Halloween. But then the labeling laws changed and they had to disclose the top 8 allergens. And there it was! Glucose syrup derived from wheat! Yes, I know in some cases (not sure about this one) they claim such...
  21. That's really good. When we lived in NY, I witnessed something horrifying behind the pharmacy counter of a CVS. My daughter was very sick and we'd been stuck sitting there for hours waiting for her pills. That same weekend, my friend had a sick son and the same thing happened to her. She complained about the service and I'm sure some others did too because...
  22. Wow! Sorry to hear that.
  23. Who diagnosed this? I mean what kind of Dr.? My daughter and I have IgG allergies but I don't know what IgG of 32 means. What is it in relation to?
  24. Sorry about that! I have done similar things to my daughter. Have gone so far as to triple check the ingredients list and still miss the wheat on there. Hope he gets better soon!
  25. Psoriasis can be misdiagnosed. It was for me. AFAIK, gluten isn't an issue for me but it is for my daughter. I used to get rashes that would come and go when I was a child. The Dr. never really said what they were. But my mom did take me after the school nurse reported that I might have ringworm. I didn't. The Dr. just said they were from some sort...
